Forget that. I am springing for overnight express. My treat. Kind of a going away present for Marinelli.

I say we make Rod pay for it! Lord knows that this team is still paying for his screwups. Make him take back Taco too while he's at it! It would serve him right!

I think he gets to go to training camp to change his story and future, nothing more. This new coaching staff didn't select him, they're not tied to him, and they don;t have to put up with him. Shape up or ship out!

Everyone should blame Rod for that pick. He went and spent time with him in Florida and should have known better.

- Trysten Hill - coming from two sources when asked if Hill showed anything at the end: one source says he did not do a G-Damn thang.- Knock on hill coming out was immature, don't always play hard,
and this source says Hill was same guy at the end as he was at the beginning .... while another source says he actually showed maturity and he kept coming back, he showed some swag,
Let me guess, the other source who said he showed maturity and he kept coming back, and showed some swag is the same source that moved on to Las Vegas?

Or Mickey. I've heard him use the word "swag" when referring to a player.

I'm glad that Marinelli and Garrett ultimately paid the price for these mistakes with their jobs. But having said that, we are now totally without or 2017 1st round pick and thus far our 2019 2nd round pick. We can't get the 2017 pick back and it's lost for good and the jury is out on that 2019 pick but early returns aren't good and year 1 was a wasted one. Now the team and the new staff is left to pick up the pieces and try to recover from those huge misses. They have to "make up" for those losses, either through the upcoming draft or free agency. When you miss that badly, it really hurts and you need to put in considerable resources to make up for that.

I understand McClay does an overall good job but picks like Hill and Taco can't happen and someone needs held accountable.
Anyone will miss on players but really you should not be missing on 1st Rounders and high 2nd Rounders. These have to start
somewhere for you PERIOD
Somebody was held accountable. Garrett, Marinelli and Richard are all gone.

2018 is in doubt too.

Sad to say, but it is. I know that everyone is publicly putting on a brave face and saying it was "minimally invasive", but I also know that privately, there is a considerable measure of concern. If anything happens with his neck again - and how likely is that with a linebacker? - there will be no hesitation and walking away from the game will be recommended. And yes, that would mean that however it happened, the 2018 pick will be judged as a "miss" as well.

Where are you hearing about this private concern? I'm not calling you out, just wondering.

A friend of a friend. Someone who worked for the team and is still friendly with some there. That's all I can say without betraying a trust.

Second round picks aren't what they used to be.
Why do people always say this when one of these pie in the sky 2nd round picks that Dallas takes just bombs?

The second round should not be a round where you throw the dice on some underachieving slob. Teams that take the proven productive talent left after the first will benefit more often than not.

The 2020 All-Rookie 1st team had eight second rounders out of the twenty-eight (Jawaan Taylor, Sean Bunting, Erik McCoy, Dalton Risner, Miles Sanders, A.J. Brown, Elgton Jenkins, Juan Thornhill). That's more than 25% of the group. And that does not even include other impactful players taken in the round, including D.K. Metcalf, Taylor Rapp, Deebo Samuel and Nasir Adderley. Three of these players plus Thornhill were taken after Hill's pick.

They say it because it bombed. And more importantly, because it's a Cowboys' pick that bombed.

When they hit, the team is praised for finding that 'diamond' (a rare occurrence around here in round 2 anyway), but when they miss, it's "only" a 2nd round draft pick. It's a defense mechanism used to ease their pain.

Actually, the team pays the price. The issue here with Hill is that they clearly went with a pick based off a coach's passion for the player.

That should not happen. The scouts are paid (well, underpaid really) to do a lot of work and a coach's opinion should only be a small piece of it.

But when you have a committee of Joneses that "listen", there is your problem.

It's really a shame. Because after insisting that the 'Old Wildcatter" get to indulge himself in round 2 and 'roll the dice' again and again on boom or bust prospects, the team was starting to behave themselves and allow the scouts to do the job they're paid to do. Listening to the scouts, they actually had some pretty good hauls prior to 2017. For some reason, they decided it was OK to let Marinelli and by extension Garrett overrule those scouts and pick "the guys that Marinelli wanted". That strategy gave us Taco and Hill. And now Marinelli is out the door - along with Taco, and we have no defensive line to speak of.

There’s a reason Hill played so little in college. The guy is an idiot. I hope the leash is short. He must show up in the offseason and must come in top shape. If he disappoints and shows up looking like a marshmallow he should be cut.

I have no idea how intelligent he is, but there were definite warning signs he was soft. And if you look at him play, he is definitely soft. Both in flab and mind. Not an ounce of dog in him.

colombo needs to realize that getting fired is part of a coaching career, they all get fired, then hired somewhere else, fired, then somewhere else etc.
Maybe he should try Detective work??
