Everybody's all hyped up to get a safety but I think CB is our number one need

That and any position on the DL

I want to know more about the new defensive scheme before I really decide. Plus it takes time over the offseason, first there is resigning the inhouse guys, then early FA, then the draft, then late FA. Each one really is an offseason all its own, if Byron Jones comes back on a reasonable deal we may be fine with new coaching.

I kinlaw is there you got to take him
But if not safety to me is gonna yield the better player at 17
You never know who can drop but right now that’s what it looks like
Having said that I agree
CB is a big issue with jones, Goodwin and brown all free agents and the rest free agents next year

Witten might come back - or he might not.

Collins and Quinn might come back - unless they don't.

Lee could play or retire.

And Byron Jones will get a new contract - here or somewhere else.

That's what I love about Machota, so definitive! You just can't get inside information like this anywhere else!

:lmao:

awuzie gave up some big plays this year , I believe this change can be good for him, just hoping we keep Byron Jones he’s a lot better than people think, only allowed like 51% Passes thrown in his direction caught.

Awuzie giving up big plays is exactly why Byron isn’t targeted. Also, we’re so used to mediocrity that we truly believe Byron is worth big money. He isn’t. There are better CB’s out there. Byron only looks good because he’s surrounded by mediocre CB’s. He’s not that great in comparison. He’s as average as can be. Let him walk and draft a CB.

yes he was. theres a interesting video that was posted here how the Cowboys played him as basically a last line of defense because he is a very good tackler. look it up on youtube. the user is ****NOT-AN-OFFICIAL-SOURCE*** i think.

I am too, but I have faith that this team will find serviceable players or better in the draft and free agency.

Cornerback is likely much higher on my draft list than that of others.

Hell, If we move on from Byron......CB tops my draft list. No way I'm coming out 2020 w/o CB being at least 1 of my first 2 picks. The only way I'm not using a 1st, is a real blue-chipper drop to 17 and I'm talking a high-risk guy. I mean a safe blue-chipper w/o red flags. But even if my 1st goes on another position, I'm going CB with my 2nd. I know others have mention safety but my question is how Nolan plays his safties as oppose to Marinelli. In other words, can I replace Heath with a mid-level free agent as opposed to using 1st rd pick. First-round CB keeps stress off my cap coz I've locked down a premium position for the next 5 years with a cheap rookie contract.

The coverage was all over the place and not made to leverage his strengths. 90% of the time is was either man or that cover 3 where is was ostensibly man except on quick inside routes.

Chido's strengths are with zone coverage getting to his drop and driving on the football. It leverages his burst and physicality.

One huge issue with the defense was the simple symmetrical coverage over and over again. That and Jaylon biting especially hard on every PA action fake. Huge lanes in the middle of field were common but OCs could easily dial up routes to attack them down after down.

Honest question.......if you know/knew this, obviously, Marinelli/Richard knew also. Why didn't they adjust? Personnel or they tried but players couldn't/didn't execute?

Way to go Jon! You really nailed it. Big time nfl free agents are either going to get big contracts with their current clubs or with somebody else

Man, these are the juicy nuggets people around here kill for

I'm not going to let Jon Machota do my taxes but in fairness, the article was a review of each position for last season and I picked out the things that were relevant to the offseason. Like expecting Byron Jones to get a top tier FA contract and the #1 pick to be a safety.

They scheme/coaching put him in impossible situations. They schematically used him as-if he was PrimeTime in his prime. CBs in the modern era are rarely given zero help repeatedly...not deep...not short...not inside...not vs the run to his side.

I don't know if he will be average or really good in another scheme but no CB would have been good the way they used him.

Oddly they made it easier for Byron Jones than for Awuzie which is bizarre.
