The Jones might kill that popularity one day..just matter of time.
We will still have an entertainment club with a sport team logo but that's about it.
They're a genration in, and into a second one.....not too much longer before until it becomes folklore

The "Baby Boomers" are still with us and the cheerleaders. The "Millennials" are not impressed at all. I'm Kind of stuck in-between so,, its time for something.

To be honest, the Cowboys have transitioned into a lovable loser type franchise. Greatness can build a following but people bond over the struggle too. I always say, the Cowboys and the Chicago Cubs pre 2016 have a lot of similarities in that regard. The longer the wait, the more intense the fanbase will get in my opinion. That Cowboy superbowl return will be the most watched event of all time.

As we are all richly aware, the Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl in 25 years. They haven't even advanced beyond the divisional playoffs since then. They haven't won a road playoff game in 27 years. There is an entire generation of Cowboys fans that now shares more in common with Bengals or Lions fans than with their own Cowboys elders.

And yet the Cowboys are consistently among the world's richest teams, usually are the NFL's most-watched team, command the highest-ratings, draw the most revenue, sell out all the time.

Is it really just the momentum of those 5 Lombardis? Granted, the Cowboys were already dubbed America's Team in the 1970s, so it's more than that.

Several factors, IMHO:

  • The Cowboys have one of the best uniforms in the league, aesthetically speaking.
  • The Cowboys are always scheduled in on Thanksgiving, so there's always at least one nationally-televised game.
  • At a certain point, momentum begets itself. The Cowboys are popular, so they get high TV ratings and the best nationally-televised slots, which then in turn continues their popularity, and then ensures that they get great primetime games, etc. etc.
  • The Cowboys used to host their summer training camp in California, so that ensures a big following in the nation's most populous state.
  • Jerry is a terrible GM, but still great owner-wise in terms of getting publicity and marketing things.
  • There has only been one season in the past ten years in which the Cowboys were truly bad - the 2015 season. In every other season from 2011-2019, the Cowboys either made the playoffs, or fell short on the very doorstep of the playoffs. That ensured compelling relevancy, and TV-viewership, throughout the season.
  • The Cowboys have the biggest and best stadium in the league.
  • The Cowboys' cheerleaders are better known than most other NFL cheerleaders.

Everyone has an opinion on the Dallas Cowboys, either you love them or you hate them. For a team like that you'll watch to root for them to win or watch and root for them to lose but the most important thing is YOU'LL WATCH.

Take the Chief for instance, they have great fans but no one in Florida cares if they win or lose. No one is passionately rooting against the Chiefs. Thus they'll never be one the level of the cowboys. I was telling a Patriots fan the other day that when Tom and Bill leaves you can say bye to all those primetime slots because they'll be like the golden state warriors, their popularity was player driven.

I have a neighbor that's a huge Texans fan and he has a small bus totally panted with the Texans logo, it's made for tailgating. In the front of it it says Cowboys suck. You cant find me a Cowboys tailgating bus that says anything about the Texans because we dont care. That just shows you how much thought and energy other teams fans put in hating the cowboys.

Parents who grew up watching winners brainwashed their kids. Don't expect another generation if this team doesn't actually win something again.
exactly my thought Boomers started the Cowboys fanantisism back when this organization was more like what America used to be and passed it on. Jerry is still reaping those benefits at least for now..

Your digging too deep. It is generational. All of us that were born between 1960 and 1980 helped make the Cowboys the most followed team in the NFL. I have a wife and 4 daughters. Guess who their favorite team is? Like they had a choise. The Cowboys still host training camp in ca.... and????? A few thousand people attend that..... but that isnt expanding the fan base. It is simply the fact all of us have kids that we have turned into fans, then they have kids that they turn into fans. It certainly doesnt hurt that they are always talked about on every network all season. The reason we have that huge stadium is because we have a huge fan base, not the other way around. The raiders new stadium in LV is like 65k seats. Can you imagine today, having the Cowboys trying to play their home games in a place that small? Air travel has never been cheaper and every week, no matter where the team plays, a very large contingent of Cowboys fans makes the trip. I live in Ca, 90 minutes from where the niners play and I can promise you I have been to more Cowboys games over the past 7 years than 99% of my friends that are niner fans have been to 49ers games.

1: The majority of NFL fans are over the age of 30, all old enough to remember at least most of the 90s dynasty.

2: The Cowboys are by far the most popular American professional sports team in Mexico and among Mexican immigrants, and this is the most rapidly expanding American demographic.

3: No team is on national TV more than Dallas. Between national games and widespread regional zones, millions of people outside of Texas can see 10+ Cowboys games a year with just basic cable.

The haters are the biggest reason. As long as there is true hate coming our way we will always be the most popular.

P.s..the hate will never ever ever go away. So we can lose for another 100 years and still be the most popular.

Disagree with uniforms and stadium. DFW is and has been one of the largest growing areas in the U.S for several years so the Cowboys gain a lot of fans by default. They’ve also had zero in state competition since the Texans came along (minus the Oilers) so they also gained many fans from NM and OK who had no professional teams.

Here’s an analogy. I’m a craft beer drinker and have been for decades, without using specific names of breweries, there are newer and better beers than most of the breweries that have been have been around TX for years and years yet the older breweries are still more popular because they gained such a large following when there wasn’t any competition. It doesn’t mean they have better beers, they don’t, and they have an inferior product but a lot of people stay loyal and are blinded to reality.

Where have you been? Open your eyes. It's right in front of you. As far as stats, Google it. It's all there for you to see.

So that means you dont have any to post? Instead you try to insult me to if i were to stupid to be able to find them. This is lame.

If you make a statement be able to prove it. And dont try to get out of responsibility by insulting the one who is questioning you.

It’s called marketing...
something that Jerrah truly excels in...

“America’s Team”
Since when? Maybe the 70’s and 90’s but heck that name has stuck through all these years.
Because Jerrah makes sure win or lose that the Cowboys are always making news one way or another.
You either love them or hate them... but you simply cannot ignore them.
That’s what they do better than anyone. Period

The helmet, unis, watching Bob Hayes smoke my dad's giants. (Roger finally converted him to cowboys fan)

I was about 8 for the ice bowl and sobbed for a couple days.
It was a great few decades , which is why I've been so frustrated with the last 20 years. But I'll never let go.
Because I'm a cowboy.
