It’s like Garrett’s playing and coaching career run parallel towards the end huh.

The sad part is how Garrett never really had any type of foundation in the offense he could take with him. Jerry had no choice but to hire someone to flush the stank. Any Giants fan happy about that after the season they just had is in for a long ride. Enjoy the next decade type of ride is what I am talking just 10 years of Garrett smiling and motivating no coaching whatsoever no time for it really got to prep the process that takes time first you smile then you motivate....decade.

Just because you're a bad head coach don't make you a bad coordinator. Look at Wade Phillips for example.

Exactly, and some coaches become a lightning rod for fan hatred. The same thing happened to Mike Zimmer on Cowboy websites and he has done well in Minn.

Garrett certainly deserved to be fired but a third of the posters here said he would never work in the NFL again. In reality he got a high profile OC job three days after his contract ended.

In the end none of it matters, where he goes or what he does. All i know for sure is Jason Garrett is GONE and he is NEVER coming back. And that is a GREAT thing. Garrett apologists will just have to suck it up and deal with the fact that they were dead wrong. He is unwanted in Dallas and was cast aside for a Superbowl winning better man . Deal with it and shut up because nobody THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS cares about JG anymore when it comes to this team. ;)

Cant wait to play the Giants now. All we have to do is sit back and let the game come to us. Too easy...LOL Mr overcomplication will always find a way to hand it to us on a silver platter at the end of the game. Remember,.....when its 4th down and an inch to go......all we have to do is be in dime cuz we know damn well theres no way on Earth Garrett ever picks doing the logical easiest thing and just runs it. Ive seen this sad smit show many MANY times...LOL Time to finally see it from the other side of the field now.

This can’t be true. Most fans in this forum said he’d never coach again in NFL.

uh no..

Most people says NFL is full of retread coaches and rubbing each other’s back. And it’s no surprise, because his Father and family ties go way back to the Mara family than even Jones. That’s why he ended up back with NY when he left Dallas As a player.

the difference is, the NY media isn’t full of lackeys like the Cowboys media was and has been.. They won’t spare him.

Me personally, I just didn't think he'd get another head coaching job, but OC, that doesn't surprise me at all. His offenses were ranked pretty good when he had that position. And depending on how well he does, it could again propel him to another HC job in the future. That I wouldn't worry about. But as OC of the New York Giants and considering how well he knows the Cowboys, I'm a bit concerned. I'm just glad we have a completely new DC.

Yup. He didn't hear from a single other NFL team. He is the king of nepotism

This is also Saban via Miami as well. Burton Burns from Alabama is also headed that way. He’s been at Alabama from 07-18. Even Joe Judge was in Alabama from 09-11, meaning Saban connections.

Even Linehan is supposedly schedule for an interview with the Giants.

Jerry spared him or he wouldn’t have lasted this long. Ultimately it was the local media that got Garrett or Jerry wouldn’t have made a change.

Jason’s own incompetence got to him. Even Jerry couldn’t get the media lackeys to defend him anymore. Guys like Clarence Hill Jr, were defending him for at least 7 plus years. The media just started turning on him.

The topic posted at the top of the forum states:

Going forward, any Jason Garrett focused, related, etc. threads posted in the Fan Zone will likely be deleted, not moved, so make sure you post them in the Overtime Zone forum!

I'm happy as hell hes gone and the less we have to see/hear about him the better.

Agree, Garrett is an offense guy and that was the only thing that worked last year.

I do think Garrett will be a HC next year, but that is just as much about the low quality of candidates as the ability of Garrett.

They might hire Marc Colombo to be the OL coach Now with strong running in Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones as the QB ... Air Coryell style will be a good match for them.

Turners offense really wasn’t that creative. People talk about how predictable our current team is running Elliott on first down, well you could almost bet your bank account Turner would do the same with Emmitt. 3rd and 6-7 yards to go was going to be a short slant to Irvin an unusually high % of the time. That offense was just so disciplined and so talented and so efficient teams still couldn’t stop them. For Turner with that team the unexpected was maybe a lead draw on 3rd and 6-7 instead of the expected slant or short pass to Novacek.

There's some truth to that. Our players and other players pointed out that defenses knew what was coming and just couldn't stop it.

I do think Turner understood what to do with the talent he had, though. He could have been pass-happy with Aikman, but he knew he had a great running back and running game so he let the passing game complement it. I also think the timing passing game was perfect for Aikman's skills.
Then, there were plays like the deep pass to Alvin Harper in the playoffs against San Francisco when everyone was expecting a handoff to run out the clock. So he made the right calls in some crucial moments.

Part of the reason I believe Garrett coaches offense the way that he does is because of the efficiency of that offense. He mainly played when Ernie Zampese was the coordinator, but Dallas had established that it could win on offense primarily just with execution and Switzer and company didn't mess with that formula. As the players aged and free agency picked the team apart, that advantage went away (which is one reason we tried a more innovative head coach in Chan Gailey), but Garrett seemed to have gotten the impression from his playing days that winning is all about execution, while execution in the salary cap period is just part of what's needed since teams can't simply out-talent opponents.

I think it is a good hire for the Giants. They have no answers for Dallas so by hiring Garrett, they at least will have someone there who can help them attack the weaknesses of this team. Don't be surprised if the Giants steal one from Dallas just because they know more about them now than they have ever before.
