I wouldn’t be surprised if they extended jarwin
He’s a RFA so he’s not going anywhere but if you increase his playing time and use him he’s gonna be a good TE
He’s not elite guy like a little or Kelsey but he can be a good player if used and you might get him cheap on a short term deal

You really think it's possible that this could "reach" for a defensive player in the first round?
Dline maybe
Past kinlaw I think there is a drop off assuming things go like they look like they will
I don’t think DE will be BPA at 17 either
My hope is kinlaw is there but if not I think DB is where the quality will be
I do expect 2 of top 3 picks go to defense if not all 3

That's exactly what I think as well. The point is that given this team's needs at every level of the defense, it's impossible to 'reach' for a defensive player in that first round, and everybody knows that. Well, almost everybody...

I think DT has to be addresses in FA
Maybe a couple of times
I think Crawford comes back at a cheaper price and we sign an outside guy and maybe Covington too
I’m hoping we can keep Quinn or we will need a DE top
But we could use every pick on D and I’d be tickled
Even LB has a depth need
We literally need everything

Why are you suggesting the first? Who said we have to grab a TE in the first round? The player I referenced is not being mocked currently as a first round TE, there isn't a single mock draft I can find that has him there. Heck, most don't even have him as the first TE - a couple have him as the third TE taken in the draft. He's not a first round TE lol

Unless we sign Ebron or some other TE. I was fine with having Witten back, but was hoping we'd use him accordingly. Of course we fell right back to marching him out there all game every game.
Like most here predicted. Jarwin made more plays than Witten every game but got no recognition for it.

Unless we address DT in free agency its foolish to draft a tight end in round 2. Our 3 techs will be Hill and a 3rd rounder? Ewww

As the Dallas Cowboys undergo a sweeping change in their coaching staff, the impact to the current roster remains to be seen. Some players will be helped and others hurt by the changes, so what about the intriguing tight end prospect Blake Jarwin? How will these changes affect him in 2020?

Jarwin dealt with a big surprise last offseason when Cowboys legend Jason Witten decided to return to the team after a year in retirement. After a hot end to the 2018 season, Blake was seen as a potential starting option going into the offseason.

But Witten’s return kept Jarwin in a minor role on the offense. Blake’s snap count total stayed relatively even at 38% compared to 35% in 2018.

Now there’s a new coaching regime in town. Mike McCarthy doesn’t have any loyalty to Jason Witten like Jason Garrett did; how could that change things for Blake Jarwin?

I think he will be used much more

I think that he could be in a better position with the coaching change, specifically at TE. From what I've been able to research it looks like Wells is big on teaching blocking at the TE as well which was one of the main negatives of Jarwin's game.

If Jarwin can improve to the point of being an average pass/run blocker then that should significantly improve his playing time.

We still need to upgrade the position, especially if we're going to be running 2 TE sets next season, and there are plenty of options in the upcoming draft.

TE while a need is not pressing how about having a coach that’s not super loyal to an aging hall of famer

I can honestly see the need to draft defense in 1st 3 rounds and still be BPA . DT. S,CB and even LB are all needs at some level and I’d argue pressing at 2 of them

No frikken way we draft TE before possibly 5th or 6th

I've said this a few times now. I think McCarthy will have a private conversation with Witten and tell him that because father time has caught up and that he doesn't see Witten having much of a role McCarthy will then give Witten the choice to publicly announce his retirement and let the public believe it was Witten's decision and not the embarrassment of being cut. Witten was a great TE for the Cowboys and will end up with his gold blazer but he now only has the speed of an offensive lineman and his once sure hands are no longer sure hands.

He had enough good plays to ensure he has a long career, but I'm still not sure he is that #1 TE every team wants on their roster.

JAG!

Pretty sure that MM has watched enough cowboys tap in his off time to know better than you.

Jarwin is in a contract year. Either we sign him to a cheap contract this offseason, or we let him go in free agency. He's not going to rise to the level that we're willing to seriously compete for him in free agency.

As long as he is used correctly (meaning TE2 instead of TE1), I still think Witten provides value. He's a player coach, he can still find soft spots in short range zones as well as anyone, he still has good hands. Out of Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, and Witten, Witten had the best catch percentage.

The problem in 2019 was JG insisting on Witten being the main guy and not allowing Jarwin more opportunities.

I guess I'm saying you cant blame the chess pieces if the chess player puts them in dumb positions.

I'd draft a TE, resign Jarwin, and leave it up to Witten if he wants to come back as a TE2/TE3.

The problem isn't just Witten. It's everyone on the offense. Dak still threw to him in critical times like Witten merited being a goto player.

I was fine with Witten coming back. Not this year. His stats were the worst since his rookie year, *and* they were markedly worse in the back half of the season. Less than 5 yards per target. That's miserable.

No mas. Witten has got to go.

If we look to draft a pass catching TE, Randy Moss's son out of LSU has declared for the draft. I will be interested to see how he tests at the combine but he could be a day three pick.

I don't know jarwin's ceiling, but having the progress stopper gone can only work to his advantage.

Until Jarwin proves himself as a consistent (please reread: CONSISTENT) 1st and 2nd down blocker, he’s never gonna be a full-time 3-down TE.

Great athlete but, so far, an average TE.

I absolutely take a TE rnd 1 if he is indeed a true superstar TE, does that exist in this draft I do not know. Jarwin has shown that he has little trouble catching the ball and he can get downfield, can he block, who knows. I guess my point is that if a Gronkowski is avail rnd 1 I’m taking him as it is very important to our offense and Dak, just do not know if that exists. I’ll leave that up to others to advise further...
