Reminds me of when Emmitt went to the Cardinals after it was clear that he needed to call it quits. Witten has been a great player, but if Dallas doesn't bring him back, he needs to ride off into the sunset.
Needs to call it quits anyway

I really don't understand the hatred some have for Witten. He's been one of the best Cowboys in the past decade and he always carried himself the right way, gave back to the community, and continues to work with charities. It really is embarrassing that some don't have respect for what he accomplished. He's not what he used to be, but he laced it up and hardly ever missed a game. He was a good pass catcher and one hellova blocker. Really...I wouldn't think I would find this many who had lack of respect for what he brought to the team.
It is strange.

I have seen every TE to ever play for us.

He is light years the best.

And for so long.

OMG.

I appreciate how Jerrah will keep his favorite players another year or so and not just cut them. They get a little severance pay that way.

Players see this and know.

Does he want to be earn a roster spot on an NFL team based on his performance on the field, or be handed one due to relationships and nepotism? Sounds like the latter.

The thought of him dominating snaps this season and then following Garrett leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I don't think hes so desperate he needs to be handed a spot. I think he must actually really care for Garrett and enjoy working with him.

That also frustrates me because there were so many obvious clown moves by Garrett that helped to cost Witten and this team a chance at actually accomplishing something. Yet hed consider following this failed coach in the twilight of his career. Its just not how I want to remember a player I really admired and cheered for.

Lets see. Another "insider" speculating base on "sources" with no "sources" named which means I'm totally speculating. Even if, that huge word, IF this had any semblance of any truth, the decision to sign Witten would fall on a recommendation from the head coach to the GM and even with that even with just paying the league minimum for a 16 year vet would be more than they would want to offer a once great TE that now only has the speed of an offensive lineman and no longer has the once sure hands he once had.

If this ever happens I'll wait until it does before I'll believe it.

His legacy is set as a Cowboy, but these last couple years definitely give it a strange ending. We’ll remember him as an all time great, but at this point, he’s a progress stopper who’s in denial of his football playing ability

Witten wasn’t near as bad as everyone makes him seem. Another reason I would laugh my butt off if he went and had decent success with the Giants (as much as it would hurt me seeing him in that uniform).

Nothing like him catching a 6-yard pass when the Giants are in 3rd and 8. It works to me:)
Unfortunately that 6 yard pass would be thrown by one Dak Prescott... best remember that.
Witten is no longer the player he was but Dak is not the franchise QB we all expected either.
Getting back to topic...
Doubt Witten would ever play for the Giants period

I think Emmitt was trying to pad his career rushing yardage total. Those extra yards may be what keeps Peterson from trying to catch him.

With 2 more starting seasons, Witten could pass Gonzalez for career receptions and get in the low teens for career receiving yards. I think we should move on from Witten, but I'm not sure how much he has left. He was at least an average starter for the first half of the season, very below average the second half.

If he could continue to play like he did in the first half, he could easily have a couple of good years left.

He's a bad fit here. He gets too much deference even when he's not producing. We would use him as a goto player in critical moments, and he's not that guy anymore. He don't have to go home but he can't stay here.

Dak's attitude toward Witten was a problem this year. He considered him a goto player in the clutch, and he's just not that guy anymore. Maybe that was Moore/Garrett too.
