Titans made a deep playoff run with little talent. Coaching matters!

The Titans are very strong in the trenches and play smash mouth, but complementary football.

They also play with fire and passion, and that comes from Vrabel. Vrabel is the man. Any coach that rarely kicks FG's is good with me.

Oh ok. Yeah I obviously agree with that take but some on here don't agree. Arguably our best game this year had a similar feel against the Rams.
That’s the formula and there is no shame in it. You can’t put constant pressure on a QB to throw the ball 40 times a game and not have mistakes and int and missed and dropped passes. There is nothing wrong with Dak but give him a formula and game plan he and the team can execute.

I think Dak is too inaccurate overall and too dependent on the talent around him to be average but overall I don't disagree with your points otherwise.

Sure coaching matters. But coaches don't drop passes, pick the wrong cut back lane, miss a block or FG either. Before you say coaching matters ask your self if the players were in position to make a play cause that is all a coach can do. Garrett had us in position and the players failed.

Titans have probably the best offensive line in football and a great defensive front. Talent does matter in those 2 areas. We've fallen behind on that because our offensive line is full of guys that can't stay healthy and are deteriorating in talent. In a year or two we will probably have to replace all of them. And our defensive line was derailed by losing Crawford and never really recovered. We have some good pass rushers but it doesn't really matter if you can't get anything inside going. Really our biggest need is for the lines to be better if we want to make a deep playoff run. Our lines are awful right now.

Very much hoping he hasn’t hit his ceiling for improving his accuracy. He is throwing catchable balls for the most part. I don’t expect between the numbers every pass. But the ball being thrown behind them is the hardest to grab and go.

I think Jarwin is legit man...Witten is holding up his progress...

But if you look at our roster and Titsns on paper....which one would you take?

Its coaching

Not only the Titans are well coached but also the Niners. They were always talented. But could never win games with the talent. Shanahan has turned that program around.

They weren't always talented. They got that talent by picking top picks for the last 4/5 years and hitting on them. If they were soo talentd they wouldn't have been picking near the top of the draft so often recently.

Niners are pretty stacked.

They have a beast defense and some great offense players...

Titans dont have anything on offense really beyond Henry
Offensively the 49ers do leave a lot to be desired. I like Deebo but not a fan of their offense. Defensively they poured picks all into that unit an it’s worked. But coaching is a big part of that.

beyond a few players the team is really lacking talent in many areas
I don't think this is true. They have players that are lesser known but pretty talented across the board.
Their O line is at least as good as ours, probably a little better.
Receivers & Tight Ends are capable. Receivers are a little inconsistent on getting separation.
First two levels of the defense is pretty stout. Could use a little upgrade on the backend to really solidify.

If Tannehill comes back & plays at a high level, they could very well be back in the mix next year. Sprinkle in a few upgrades & they are as good as anyone.

With Garrett there was too many slow starts and sloppy drive killing penalties.

Also in big games we played good teams the same way we played bad teams.

Garrett never helped us and by never helping the Cowboys it hurt them because he completely ignored the strategic side of football.

So glad he is gone.

Titans have the best O-Line in the League + the best RB this Season and likely Top 3 in the League.
They have a good Front 7 and Play Smashmouth Football. A.J Brown will become a Star WR and they have solid TEs. Far better than we have.

They have a Bottom 5 QB who had a Career Year but because of lack of Skill and Talent couldnt outduel Mahomes. If they only had a halfway serviceable QB who can throw a Football they would Play in the SB now.

I mean they dont have Talent like KC or the 49ers but they are certainly in the Top 10-12 in Talent + a Great Coach and Good Form in the right Moment.

I disagree that he didn't help. But I agree it was time for him to go. Just like MM time ran out in green bay.

IDK.....Titans IMO is one of those teams where all the cylinders lined up at the right time. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they missed the 2020 playoff and finished 500 or below.
Absolutely. You can't win doing what they did with any consistency.

They played against a bad team in NE and then Baltimore just kind of had an off day relative to the way they'd been playing before

I agree that they're pretty well coached - though they're probably more talented on offense than they get credit for - but they're not a team that's a legit year-to-year contender if the rest of the AFC improves at all.

This really isn't true. Last year the 49ers defense struggled and were not considered very good. In fact, their defensive coordinator Robert Saleh was nearly fired last year but Shanahan gave him another year to figure it out. The 49ers added a couple of good players and put it all together this year.

Truth be told, they just got their stuff together and everything jelled, but they're not stacked, they went from suspect to very good in one year mostly due to sticking with Saleh and getting a few players.

Coaching is huge in the post season. Players need to be put in position to win.

Yes I know Titans have Henry but we have Zeke...

The titans are not loaded with a bunch of pro bowlers...beyond a few players the team is really lacking talent in many areas...

And they STILL almost made it to the Superbowl

This isnt a bash Garrett thread we are beyond that, dude got fired....but coaching does indeed matter!

I could have asked a dozen people this question, but I'll ask you since you;re OP, and everyone else can chime in too.

Since you are sold on your idea...what is it the Titans coach (EDIT: or niners coach if you'd like) does.....that is the difference?

I wont; say I agree or disagree with you...only that I don't like flat general statements. What is it you know...that the coaches specifically do...that makes the difference?

Everything matters,,, correctly identifying the source of your problems matters most.
