Hard to argue dez wasn’t a distraction
This team has to be much more disciplined and play with more heart and desire
Dez plays with heart but he does cause distraction

I just never saw this distraction that others saw.

Him being fired up and the announcer narrating it the way they wanted to and the fans buying into it that narration was about his biggest "distraction".

One of the best parts about that all or nothing show was getting to hear what Dez was actually saying vs what the announcer claimed he was saying.

Aside from upgrading talent defensively we could demand that high level of energy and execution that we saw with the 49er blocking and tackling. On offense we have a huge investment in Ezekiel Elliott we need to find our own Kyle Juszczyk, we all remember how important Moose was to Emmitt.

The best comparison for the Cowboys right now is the Titans. The big difference is the coach. If this team had Mike Vrabel, I do believe they could have gotten to the NFC Championship game.
Titans are a D team. We....are not. Not the best comparison.

Titans D wasnt that great, they owned TOP in most Games with Henry running through everyone. They got stopped yesterday and Tannehills Noodle Arm Couldnt get it done. They reminded me a bit of the 2016 Cowboys with a Fresh Zeke and an insecure throwing Dak. 2016 Cowboys had the best O-Line and RB and this year the Titans.

Difference is Titans have a solid D with good Run Stoppers and a great Coach, Cowboys suck on D forever and had Jason Garrett

This won't be a popular opinion but i'd love to see them bring in Dez for a workout and see where he is at.

I think he could still be good in a Anquan Boldin type of role and let him do work in the redzone.

I know the team probably isn't going there but he is one of our all time greats and was done dirty. I think if he came back strong it would really energize the fan base too.

He's only 31 years old.
Ive always felt that a lot of talent gets flushed down the toilet in the NFL, at this level.
Take a look at Antonio Brown, was the best WR in the league, and then he goes all prima donna crazy, the league turns their back on you quickly.
On one hand, I can agree with the owners, not wanting to invest into crazy, but on the other, I hate seeing good talent dismissed.

I'd like to know who Dez was ever distracting?

The media and some fans who wanted to make him out to be a TO or Antonio Brown when he wasn't?
Maybe Dez was ahead of all of us in seeing what JG was all about and his philosophy...
I wasn’t in that locker room but I cannot see how someone who played with such emotion and who wanted to win can be a distraction.
Unless your HC is lacking in certain areas and makes him along with a few supporters his scapegoat

How far off are we?

I don't think we could ever be like the Chiefs because Mahomes is really that whole team. He's the best player in the NFL right now.

What we can replicate from the Chiefs is an offense that creates more explosive plays.

2 problems...

Dak is not an explosive big play QB.

Zeke was not an explosive RB at all this past season.

Defensively on paper I don't see us too far from the 9ers but when it plays out on the field our defense is nowhere near theirs.

I like our front 7 with Quinn. We need some help at DT.

Byron would be a big loss IMO. Especially with this coordinator.
Here we go, another bash Dak thread from one of the resident haters. Surprise, surprise.

Exactly.
With Dez, as it was with Irvin for a while...it was a distraction. With others, it was called passion. Which was what the 88's slayed with.
not sure if I want Dez back or not, but I could live with it, especially for an end zone threat. We have not had one since he left. And no, Witten is not that guy, he hasn't been that guy last year, or his last year before his failed broadcasting career.

Garrett wasted/ruined the careers of a lot of great players. Jerry letting him for 10 years is a travesty.

It was so obvious but the guys making football decisions couldn't see that and that is what is bothers me about this team.

I think it’s pretty simple. Lick your coach run the scheme and choose the players appropriately.

First step is a HC that has been there and knows what it takes to get there.

Next is a plan. KC and SF have plans, completely different plans but plans just the same.

And last but certainly not least, luck. One tackle gave SF homefield and TEN upsetting BAL gave it to KC. Other wise, one or two different teams could be in Miami.

And speaking of plans, that's been the problem with the Cowboys for many years, they don't have a plan, they wait for one to develop and try to ride that plan.

When Reid moved up to get Mahomes, he had a plan to trade Smith and when Lynch began using picks on DL and OL and traded for Garoppolo and paid him, he had a plan.

Both of those teams, as well as the other 2 of the final 4, established identity, they didn't wait for identity to establish itself.

Good drafts would always help, although, our front office sorely needs to get more bang for their bucks in free agency.

Hopefully, the newly installed defensive staff will have the necessary clout to compete with the best of them in the NFL.

It should certainly be important if Mike McCarthy is capable of formulating the capacity to compete with the elite teams.

If Dallas can somehow field an aggressive defense like the Bills or Titans next season, I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t be in the mix. It is unrealistic to ask for an elite D but a bonafide top 10 should be reachable.

Dak isn’t going to pass his team to a SB but he certainly can lead them there with the right pieces in place and proper coaching/scheming.

It was beyond obvious that Garrett did not know how to do that and I trust that MM is the man for the job.

Get a play making TE, S, DT or two and another linebacker and add some overall team speed and lets see what happens. Dallas should be more involved in FA this year to help speed up the process.

The coaching difference will become very clear this year. McCarthy is a pro head coach. Garrett was woefully under qualified and most fans could see it.

The worst part about our team was special-teams.
