Would You Be Happy With This Dak Comparison?

McNabb actually did carry those teams. He was one of the most difficult guys in the league to stop for a long time with Andy Reid.

I don't know about this. McNabb always seemed to have a decent pass catching Back that would tear us up.

I think McNabb in his prime was better but if you want to compare Dak I would say maybe Cousins.

Definitely the mental and leadership advantage is with Dak but I still don't see Cousins as a better player. He didn't start full time until his 4th season.

Another factor IMO is how the player progresses. Stafford is a better QB than Dak but it took him a long time to get to that level. Dak started as a rookie (which few QBs can do) and has steadily improved over time, he isn't a finished product.

I’ve always liked Dak’s comparisons to Steve McNair and Donovan McNabb.

-Never quite a top 5 QB, stayed in the 7-10 range for their careers.

-Not overly athletic, but are strong and can move around enough to make plays and run when the opportunity presents itself.

-Never the type of guys to do it all themselves, but with solid teams were able to win many regular season games and moderate post season success.

-Could make every throw, but had stretches of inconsistency.

Finally both got to Super Bowls and were within yards of winning them. If Dak has a similar career to these guys, but converts his SB opportunity into a win, are we all happy with his time?
Dak is levels above both those guys especially McNabb who didn’t have the desire nor the competitiveness that Dak has. It’s disappointing, although not surprising, that so many of our own fans buy into the voices of the national media talking heads who only see highlight clips of the games. They develop an agenda based on that because “hey the national media says he sucks so I can always go to that.” They are so blinded by their agenda they can’t even recognize the fact that he has a career 65.8 career completion record, has thrown for 15,778 yards, has thrown 97 td’s and only 36 int’s and has a career record of 40-24 on a team coached by someone many here says was one of the worst coaches in the NFL.

You haters, and wanna be haters, need to wake up because you can’t see the forest because of the trees because you hate the Huiasche tree.

I'm having a hard time believing in Daks physical ability to develop. I'm not a believer that you can get more accurate. My nephew was called for a tryout with the KC Royals. He was pitcher who could throw 96 mph. Didnt make the team was placed in the farm league and worked so hard had coaches and just couldn't get his accuracy good enough to make it on a pro team. I know its baseball and were talking football but it's the same in other sports too.

I agree with that, but I disagree that Dak doesn't have enough accuracy to be a winner. With Dak there was a period where his accuracy suffered when he was pressured but that is true for a lot of QBs. He also would have footwork problems at times where he would throw a ball into the ground but he seems to have solved that.

I think most of the accuracy debate happened last year when he had terrible pass protection and backup WR starting for half the season. This year it wasn't an issue except for the Philly game where he played through an injury that would have kept most QBs out of the game.

Hopefully McCarthy can help him hone his game. To be honest I dont really count that Philly game it was almost like the whole team didnt care and Garrett was done it's like they just showed up without a plan.

Dak was more accurate early this season. There was a noticeable improvement, thanks to his footwork and mechanics. Yes he was playing against crap teams, but what difference does that make, other than being comfortable in the pocket? At least we know he can improve his accuracy. His timing and willingness to throw to a spot before his receiver was open were also things we saw improve.

Westbrook was the Cowboy killer.

Before him, Duece Staley. After Westbrook, LeSean McCoy. I mean, the Eagles have always had that guy. It's weird. I can go back to Wilbur Montgomery in the 70s. Keith Byers, Hershel Walker, Ricky Watters. I mean, Philly has always seemed to have that guy.

Dak had the second most passing yards last year (behind Jameis Winston, who had three times as many INTs). That isn't all on intangibles.

I think 2019's top 5 in yardage is a perfect illustration of why stats have to be viewed with context.

Winston
Prescott
Goff
Rivers
Ryan

Of those, only Goff had a winning record at 9-7. The eye test is that at least 3 of the 5 had a bad year. Winston & Dak being the exception only because its such a significant jump from their previous totals that it "feels" like a good year.

Skill, intangibles, whatever. It goes to show that a lot of stats are meaningless in regards to how well someone played or winning. Surely, no one would suggest that these were the 5 best QB's in the league. So, lets dismiss these for what they are. Misleading.

Only then do we have any chance of moving on to better analysis of what is or isn't good QB play.

Not a dig at you Kaiser. I had seen this list yesterday & was thinking how it differed from who most people would list as the top 5 QB's. When you referenced it, I was reminded.

True, but Westbrook was the guy who always worried me, because he'd seemingly always find a way to make a huge play and turn the game around.

omg...again with the empty Dak stats. Based on stats we were great and in the Super Bowl. Oh, wait, we were 8-8. That should tell how much stats matter. Same goes for Dak. He’s inconsistently inaccurate. Sounds like a deal for $35-$40 million huh ? He will never lift a team to a championship, he may be a decent bus driver. But his $35-$40 million will suck up money that’s needed to put a championship team around him. Which he needs.

Alot of 'ifs' and 'thens' in this thread.

Which is OK.

Your comparison QBs are interesting. Both were terrific but lacked good defenses.

Tony Romo is a better comp.

Offensively gifted, lacked any defense his whole career..

eventually left becuz of too many injuries.

Dak has been injury free until 2019. But his injuries at the shoulder are cause for pause.

You can take a flyer on it, but realize you are risking player contracts, future winning and limited potential if you pay him and things fall apart at QB.

Nothing Dak does is unique. He is not like Mahomes with his arm and running ability.

Dak wants assurances he is getting paid like a top 3 QB while the Cowboys get no assurance about his ability to win.

If we lose any starters on offense from injury or suspension, can Dak fill the gap and absorb any shortcomings and get it done?

My feelings are no he can't.

So that is where I would stop short of opening the bank on a non-1st Rd pick to rise above his pedigree and blossom into a rose from a hibiscus.

Both are pretty but one has aromas the other can not add.

Rose's are the better choice for most situations

It's just the way it is.

So Dak has to be very scrutinized and saving money and getting a QB better to play the WCO makes good football and financial sense.

For once I would like competition at QB. We never did that with Romo and just played with blinders his whole time here.

That went 10 years backing a player that really never could get it done.

We are getting ready to do this again with Dak.

Will we ever stop this sort of running the team this way?

Opinions will vary.

Yeah.. If I pay Russell Wilson prices I expect Russell Wilson quality. Instead i'm getting a QB who does squat against good teams and pads his numbers on bad teams.

If there is any chance to trade up and steal Tua Tagovailoa then show some cajones and go get him.

I think Tua will bust in the NFL.

Never impressed by McNabb, imo Dak is just as good if not better.

Westbrook was a BEAST! People underrated him. McNabb had some trash at receiver until he got TO. Can't argue against that. James Trash and Stinkston.

But he always had some backs. I seem to remember them killing it with Staley, Westbrook and Buckhlater. Westbrook was a dual back.

Am I happy with a super bowl appearance but no win, the bar has got pretty low around here. But I agree with the Mcnabb comparison. And no I wouldn’t be happy.
