I saw two simple lessons. First of all the 49ers might be the best in the trenches both sides of the ball. This of course is where the vast majority of games are decided. Lesson two is Tennessee like many teams out there is not built to play from behind. And like many teams out there should not pay big money to a middling QB. Sound familiar?

LLLOOOLLL, you are about to be stoned to death like in the Biblical times my friend. Even though I agree.

Football is actually a pretty simple game. The 4 teams in the two championship games this weekend gave us a consistent reminder about the simplicity of the game- the teams that win are the ones that have these consistent qualities game in, game out:
  1. They can block well.
  2. They can tackle well.
  3. They are physically and mentally tough.
Obviously you have to have some talent. So add talent to the three qualities above and you have a chance to be a team that wins in the playoffs.

Look at what the Niners have done so far in the playoffs- in the divisional win against the Vikes and the blowout of the pack in the NFC championship yesterday, they ran the ball 89 times for 471 yards. They only threw the ball 27 times! Defensively they made crisp open field tackles consistently. They look physically tough as nails.

And the chiefs surprised me twice with their mental toughness. Down 24 points in the divisional round then down 10 in championship game...no big deal. They were mentally tough as nails.

So my fellow Cowboys fans...ask yourself honestly...when was the last time our Dallas Cowboys could block well, tackle well, and show mental and physical toughness when the chips are down? Maybe 2014? But that team never got out of the divisional round. (When our fans scream about screwed in the Dez call, which we were, they fail to realize there were sill 4 min left in that game. But our defense couldn’t stop the pack from running out the clock.) I know this- those 70s and 90s teams were as tough as boot leather. I’m tired of looking at soft Cowboys teams.

This offseason as we look at who draft, who to keep and who to let go or cut, and who to sign as a FA- just remember that yeah, all that stuff is important. But the first thing this team needs is some football fundamentals. Blocking, tackling and toughness.

The teams that are winning these days have it. And we need start getting some more of that if we are ever going to get back to being playoff relevant again.

Blocking well comes from coaching
Tackling well comes from coaching
Mental Toughness comes from coaching

I agree with you 100%. But, We have lacked good coaching for a lot of years. Let’s see what happens now.

The lesson I take is that elite QB talent isn’t as important as good coaching that instills discipline and solid scheme.
The qbs no longer playing...Brady, Brees, Rodgers, while average qbs that made the final four...Tannehill, Garoppolo....
Coaching is the most important thing....

Their guys look like they got bigger muscles than our guys
They also look faster.

Better. Stronger. Faster. What are we missing?

We had a soft coach and it trickled down . This year soft evolved into lack of effort . We had Mister Rogers when we needed Patton . Now we have taken a step towards effort , accountability and mental and physical toughness .

Im thinking we at least will be prepared to play cold weather games with a guy who coached in Siberia last go round Sheesh

Watching the niners yesterday, it was obvious they just physically whipped the packers. The looks on the faces of the GB players at the end of the first half was total defeat. They got physically manhandled. This was a niners team that won 5 games last year.

But man can they block and tackle.

The Niners addressed the offensive and defensive lines and its paying huge dividends. Them having Jimmy G is just the icing on the cake if they need him......Hell, they could even win with Dakota as their Qb

So, they learned to block and tackle in the past year? Last year Garopollo got hurt and missed most of the year. They added Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, Kwan Alexander, Jimmie Ward, and a fully recovered Richard Sherman. Thats an amazing off season and defensive transformation. They went from 5 wins to a super bowl in large part b/c their GM didn't sit back and think " we'll be fine once Garrapolo comes back and I like our guys". He aggressively went out there and signed guys to improve the team. Thats where it starts. You get rid of the stink of losing by bringing in fresh blood.

3 of our top alpha dogs are Dak, Zeke, and DLaw and yet these are the guys everybody on here *****es about....
DLaw talks better than he plays had a decent year this year but needs to show up when we need him at end of games. Zeke has been a distraction to team since the day he got here. This last year could of been his first year without being a problem so he goes to Cabo for his holdout, comes back week before season and has a good not great year. Honestly I cant remember a RB that pulls himself out of games more than Zeke. Leaders have to lead by example and play and the Alpha Dogs Bite when it counts they dont disappear.

Simple equation.

Lose. Become a loser like the 49'rs did after they fired harbough so you can pick top 15 for 5 years and build an awesome cheap DL.

We did it one hear and had some success. Imagine 2-3 years of top 10 picks. That's Jerry's plan.

Excellent points Mr. Hazey. I read all this nonsense about the flavor of the week needed to win in the NFL, but it boils down to fundamentals, preparation and playing your best football when it matters most. Coaching matters...a lot.

The only thing we've learned from this playoff is that the AFC is garbage, the NFC isn't much better, and you don't need a run game to win.

Blocking and tackling comes and goes. The only thing you can consistently rely on in the NFL is scheme.
