So we are just going to ignore the fact that Jimmy G completed 6 passes against the Packers?
Reminded me of the 2009 Ravens vs. Patriots playoff game in Foxboro. Joe Flacco was 4 of 10 for 34 yards Ann an interception. The Ravens won 33-14.

There are a bunch of different formulas. You need to be very good in 2 of the following 3 spots to win a SB: HC, QB, and defense. You don't even need to be a good QB let alone a great one to win a SB if those other 2 pieces are in place:

Dilfer
Eli
Flacco
Foles
Peyton Manning (2015 version was awful)

All average to below average. There are a bunch of different ways. Banking on a legendary, all-time QB is the most foolish way to build. Great - if you get lucky you've got him. But it's a foolish way to go about it.

Spot-on, matey!
I wish we had an average QB who can win playoff games, much less the SB.

Tannehill completed less than 10 passes in the Titans two playoff wins and we had people here wanting to sign him.

It's amazing how easy the QBs job gets when you rush for 200, hold the opponent under 14, and don't beat yourself with turnovers.

Why is this news? The fact is that with the right combination of roster talent and coaching, there are probably 15 QBs who are good enough to lead their team to a super bowl. Heck, if Ryan Tannehill who was a bottom 5 starting QB prior to this year can get to an AFC title game beating the Pats and Ravens en route, how much more evidence do you need? Even Joe Flacco and Trent Dilfer have super bowl rings.

You do not have to have an elite QB to contend or even win a SB. But if your QB takes a Maxx contract you will not have enough help o 1 side of the ball to get to the championship games or further unless your QB is elite. It's more about building the best team you can. Dak on a cheap deal like his rookie contract is workable but when Dak starts to average 30+million a year you will see a huge void of talent that they can not overcome. Most of the playoff QB's for the AFC averaged about 5million this year. 3 of the NFC QB's made 16-21M and 3 made 26-31M this year. There's no one way to build a team. Jimmy G is making 26M but he's really not what drives that team but will be seen as worth it since they are winning. If russell wilson made less maybe they could afford a little more help and they wouldn't flounder against other good teams. Most of these guys are just not worth these super contracts but teams are scarred of their replacements.
This is great. Collin hit it on the head. He says that half the teams in the league are trying to convince themselves that their QB is good enough. The bears...... yep. Remember the chiefs with Smith? The would say he is good enough... and as Colin said... no he isnt.

And here we are trying to convince ourselves Dak is good enough. Did you watch Mahomes? Sad part is what else do you do?

If you don't have 1 of the 3-5 elite QB's then you keep drafting, keep signing cheap free agents while investing in talent around them. Get a tannehill type then lean on that OL and RB, and most importantly invest into your defense. Even an average QB will score points, keep the game within reach.

Completely agree except.. I think Dak is good enough if the roster around him can carry him. He just doesn't enhance the talent around him.
Mahome from day one has had the best supporting cast of WR's, TE's and RB's in the entire NFL. A fact that no one never talks about but in the case of Dak when he had a great OL, a rookie RB, a declining TE and a WR that was made by an experienced QB; the narrative was he HAS to have talent around him to be successful.

With that said how do we know if Mahome's can enhance the talent around him when he has ALWAYS had the best talent around him?

Lol, read my history...I like Dak. The inference was that Jimmy G sucked, I just stated that he did not as shown by his stats this year. Lol or is it LMAO. Lol...
NO..lol..I know Jimmy G doesn't suck. Dude is a helluva player and while not what some call elite, he's darn good or he wouldn't be in the SB. Dak is the same way and that's all I was saying. Jimmy has ALL the right parts around him to succeed...especially coaching. Dak has never had that benefit.

When you have a great running game and Defense with a good ST then your HC can work with it. Let the QB drive the bus. Dak is more than capable. He has shown he can do a little more than that. We just need the Defense and ST. Lol.

Lets see here, hes had a perennial top 5 Elite Running-back, 3 Pro-bowlers on the offensive line and Two 1000 yards receivers....and the #9 ranked defense in the NFL...........and yet managed only 3 field goals against the crappy Eagles in a Division Title game. Yup, lets break the bank for Mediocrity.

I would like to see us draft another WR this season. And all will be using the jugs machine. And Dak better get a little more accurate and work on the footwork. He gets excited and is throwing off. Most are catchable but some of these intermediate passes to Cooper standing there open are way over his head.

he has never had competent coaching. He has NEVER had good enough help when he needed it most, from the Defense and special teams. those ARE THE FACTS. Mahomes and the chiefs looked really bad the last 2 weeks until Mahomes got much needed help from the Special teams and defense. Without those things, they lose 2 weeks ago.

We will see if this is the case with MM at the helm. If he can excel and prove worthy of 40 Mil per year, than our problem is solved. I still would like to bring in competition at the QB position before committing long term. Those 3 games in which we scored 10 points or less show me that we need improvement and we should have easily won the division. It wasn't all Dakota fault, but as we all saw that offense go AWOL against winning teams and good defenses

OK you keep on thinking that and have funny in your little fairy tale world. The rest of us will wait for more that just 2 seasons before anointing him one of the best ever. If you can't see how ridiculously stupid that is there is no help for you.
.

lol @ “the rest of us” while you’re arguing with several in this thread already. I fully understand that it’s early, but he’s THAT good. He does things we’ve only ever seen from A rod, and won the mvp handily in his first year as a starter.

Its kiind of like how Bo Jackson is widely considered one of the best running backs of all time despite his career being cut short. Sometimes you just know.

you can relax with the name calling tho

When Tyreek Hill was out he did fine.

When Kelce was out in the playoffs the backup TE scored 2 TD's.

His supporting cast is good but his abilities makes everyone on the field look better.

This is all about Mahomes.

Mahomes enhances talent.. Talent enhances Dak.

yep that was a concern. We laid down against winning teams at times. Almost like we were afraid to make a mistake on offense. I tend to think that was mostly on Garrett pulling the reigns in too much.

Yep..

Dallas should go sign Mariotta or Derek Carr if he is made available and keep building the roster instead of signing Dak for stupid money and not being players in Free Agency.
