DLaw is somewhat in the hot seat next year. He can't use recovering from surgery as an excuse. I know he gets double teams a lot also. And he makes more plays than most think. But he needs more big splash plays that impact field position.

Oh, and drop that damn nickname.

I agree.

But Sturm's observations at least give some good perspective of the overall situation.

I certainly agree with you that he needs to have a bounce back year for sacks in 2020. And for consistently maintaining his outside run game responsibilities, specifically when it comes to opposing quarterbacks. Guys like Josh Allen and Mitch Trubisky had career days absent the Cowboys defense, in large part to being able to keep drives alive again and again by rushing for 1st downs.

And Lawrence failed to take advantage of numerous matchups against acknowledge tackles in 2019 as well. I'm hopeful Tomsula can get get him and the defensive live overall in a better place than Marinelli had them.

I agree. Sacks need to come back up! BUT honestly, after hearing Sturm beat this drum during the season, I started paying more attention to DLaw when he wasn't making sacks and he still played with a motor and didn't quit on plays. Sideline to sideline. My issue with him is he talks way too much and seemed too image conscious at times.

2017-2019 D Law is good.

2019 D Law was not good.

It is dumb to add three years to the argument. Anyone upset with his play was upset at it THIS year.

This was brought up in some responses

A lot of our fanbase are dumb.

Full stop.

They look at sack totals and draw conclusions off that.

Full stop.

It's the best, quickest indicator of the disruptiveness of a defensive lineman. And it is exactly how they get paid, and even they know and admit that. Defensive backs get paid off of picks, defensive linemen get paid off of sacks.

The only time those 'stats don't matter' is when the guy you're trying to defend doesn't have 'em.

I think D-Law had an above average season. Not a great season but above average. He made some huge plays in the run game that nobody gives 2 ***** about because they don't understand the game of football.

why Mack and von miller also had down years, you have to look at the big pictures...he got paid like most employs, have great 2-3 years in your office as top employee earn a big bonus and pay raise.. regular employers dont pay for future they pay based on the past hoping it continues but as the graph shows all Big time players with big deals have peaks and valleys in their games.. hating on Zeke, tank, smith, and other simply because of their payroll is not what normal fans do.. he still was solid and like mentioned is having a great career..

2019 D Law was not GREAT I fixed it, he was good just dint live up to his deal and again it happens...

Lawrence had 29 pressures last year...that’s horrible for a player in his salary range. To say anything otherwise is idiotic. Especially the comparison to Mack who had 45.
What Lawrence did 2 years ago was great and what he did last year was very good. But that didn’t help the team win in 2019 when he was a non factor as a pass rusher for the majority of the year. I’ll give him credit on being good vs the run, but he didn’t do his job and earn his pay check, it’s ok to call him out. Why people are so sensitive about that is weird to me.

Exactly
I expect Dlaw to be better this year than last
I think waiting so long on surgery had an impact
He basically missed the entire off season

What have you done for me lately?

Lawrence's problem is one of optics.

He holds out after a good year, refuses to get surgery until contract is done, signs a massive new contract, brands the defensive line (I won't allow myself to type out the ridiculous name) and is basically arrogant and mouthy all year on an 8-8 team.

It all screams diva to me.....and I was a fan until this last year.

Good thing it isn't just a 1-year contract. We'll see how the rest of it plays out.

I am sorry guys, but I’m not drinking the kool-aid on Tank’s 2019 season. He was paid to be elite and he was anything but elite.

He was selfish over his contract to the detriment of the team and he let the team down in 2019.

Tank belonged on a milk carton last year. If you think teams suddenly decided to focus on Tank after he got paid, you are being naive.

Let’s just hope his career going forward after getting paid doesn’t follow the same trajectory that Dez Bryant’s career did.

Easy to pick a small snap shot of stats to try and prove some sort of Lawrence man love but look at career stats:

Khalil Mack 94 Games 398 Tackles 61.5 Sacks 19 PDef's 2 INT's 2 TD's

Demarcus Lawrence 80 Games 242 Tackles 39 Sacks 4 PDef's 1 INT

Lawrence has double digit sacks in 2 of his 6 seasons (which total 25 of his 39 career sacks; oh, and those are the 2 seasons prior to a new contract).

Mack has double digit sacks in 4 of his 6 seasons.

So stop looking at only the 2 good seasons Lawrence has had.

Good stuff. I wasn't posting it to say anything by the way. Just showing the comparison for consumption.
