I am sure I can dig into stats and come up with arguments supporting either side of this debate. But its irrelevant. We saw what DLaw did this year. And its not just a performance thing, its a performance vs. salary thing. DLaw had a great year last year then got paid and had a lousy year. Excuse us for noticing. The fact is he got a $105 million contract. I posted what the contracts of the two Smiths in Green Bay look like and Dallas paid Lawrence almost the same amount GB paid both of those guys. But they had more than 25 sacks combined. DLaw had a bad year and we all hope 2020 he plays better. But having a bad year after getting paid $105 million, and more than any other DE in the league is going to get some attention.
I readily admit that DLaw was an asset in defending the run most of the year. He had some big plays during the year. Just not enough to justify his salary. And remember, its not just his salary, its also his cap impact and $65 million of his contract is guaranteed. His contract has a big impact on the cap and his performance on the field should be an equal impact for the defense.
