Yeah. Let's start all over again. I've seen 5 superbowls and I've been waiting 25 years for another. What's a few more years? Makes it more fun around here when we suck. Lol

I like the odds of a QB winning a Superbowl on a rookie contract or an elite QB taking a paycut more then I like an average to elite guy who is making top elite money.

If the highest paid QB's were winning the Superbowl every year this wouldn't be an issue.

I think Marcus Spears is considerably more concerned with the leaguewide negotiating ramifications than he is about Dak and the Cowboys.

I doubt he really cares, nor is concerned about Dak and/or the Cowboys. He was never dedicated to the team whenever he played for them.

I never said "any player", I specified Dak Prescott.

I don't either, but when these people bring up threats and holdouts, I start to consider the team's options as well. He needs them more than they need him.

I’m not saying that you said “any player”. I said any player. What I’m referring to. Is the fact that the cowboys are no longer the gold standard of football organizations to play for. It’s one of the best still. But there are others that are realistically just as good. Especially when it comes to fielding actual super bowl contending teams.

Sad to say.

I don't disagree with that. Although I wish I could...

Just draft in the first round.. We'll be fine. QB's are better then ever coming out and Dallas has a rock solid foundation for any QB to step in and be ok.

Just get someone with a little mobility and we'll be fine.

The last time Jerry tried to trade up in the first round for a QB it was Paxton Lynch. Prior to that he had to be talked out of Johnny Manziel.

It may come to that, but "we'll be fine" suggests a lot more confidence than I have in this front office.

It's actually shocking how bad the NFL is at evaluating QB's sometimes.

Everyone misses on players but man some of these teams have no clue what a good QB is supposed to look like and the right intangibles that go along with that skill.

I don't even know if I'd be sad about Dak holding out. I think he is a great person and I want the best for him, but I just don't think he is good enough. If I'm paying someone 40 million dollars he better have an elite physical trait. Dak doesn't have one of those.
exactly. Seems like a great dude. Find yourself another team for that much, remain as a backup making more than you are now, or go be a coach. But great starter material? Nah.

I disagree on the sponsors, Marcus. QB's are held up to a different light and are the hub of the wheel. Image is critical to them and the team......and the sponsors.

If a team wants to keep their QB, they will not allow it to get to a holdout as that is self-defeating to all parties. Which is why you see them acquiescing to the QB's and paying what they're paying. The damage to the public image of the QB would be total.

Elliott holding out is different, short shelf time on that position, too many get injured and he's just the RB, like Bryant was just the WR and Lawrence just the DE. If Prescott had a shoulder that needed surgery, how do you think that would be viewed as opposed to Lawrence waiting?

In today's NFL, there's the team and there's the QB and they are not handled the same.

There are companies that provide Q Factors to other companies wanting an endorsement as to the "likability" of a spokesperson and evidently Prescott scored highly, higher than more successful QB's. His agent would not risk that holding out over 27.5M, who in the hell could even relate to that? If he officially held out, there would be a hold put on every ad he's on and reportedly, he makes 7M a year just doing that. Do you see Cousins, Goff or Wentz a lot?

I don't see those other guys but I do see Mayfield, who's borderline unlikeable himself and not as successful as others. It seems almost no one "likes" Rodgers in the fan world but what harm has that done for him? This is why I say a holdout wouldn't hurt Dak. Teams are mostly done for if they don't have their QB so that's why it never gets to ransom status with them. They're just too important to play hardball with unless you really don't care about seeing your QB walk. But Dak does have that "L" word no one wanted to admit Zeke had. And we all know who won that power struggle.

Tag him. If he holds out, he holds out. Go draft a young QB, bring in a Vet to start and see what the future holds.

Correct. Then tag him again next year and let him sit out another year.

Dak might “hold out” but it wouldn’t be a good idea for him and it wouldn’t last long.

Dak would make an exponentially larger amount on the tag than he made in his whole rookie contract combined. He’s very, very unlikely to hold out.

But if he does the Jones boys need to play hard ball and let him sit out the year if that’s the route he takes. We would likely have a top 5-10 pick in the process with a loaded team. Unusual circumstances.

I just feel like the answer to all of this is let Dak hit the open market and find his true value.

I don't see any need in competing against ourselves.

If he leaves fine.

We'll use that money to build our roster closer to the 9ers or Titans.

ok, then who plays QB for us next season? Are you prepared to go into the season with Cooper Rush as the starter?

Put me on record as being surprised if Dak holds out for very long.

I don’t think he will be tagged but from his perspective I could see holding out

If he isnt tagged, then he's no longer a Cowboy
A player with no team who choses not to play = retired.

Dak won 8 games last year. While Dak has an almost historic year a bus driver can get you 8 wins. Let that one marinate and get back to me.

No there should be a bunch of mediocre QB's who will be available. I like Mariotta but Derek Carr is my first choice if made available.

I also like the idea of Tom Brady if he'll sign a 1 year deal that allows us to trade up for Tua.

Tom Brady playing in a dome with these weapons could be the equivalent of Manning in Denver.
