Here's the problems with that idea. First the rest of the NFL knows what Prescott has turned down so they will know that ant team that really wants Prescott will have to bid more than that, not less. Now if Prescott walks and the Cowboys have the 17th pick in the draft just which QB will be there that is going to be better right off the bat than Prescott? Oh wait you're going to say trade up to get one of the top QB's using more valuable picks need to help replace some of the 25 UFA that don't get resigned. All this even after Jerry, Stephen and now McCarthy has said that Prescott is their future QB. The only ones that would be happy with your idea are the ones that want Prescott out of Dallas which is the complete opposite of what the Cowboys want.
.

It's all about the salary man.

If you choose to pay him then good luck ever winning anything.

I'm fine with Dak as our QB but he needs to play for his actual value because he is just not that good. He's not that bad.. But he's not that good..

If we're talking 35+ million then let the market decide and see if he really wants to leave the highest profile position in all of sports.

Whats the worst that could happen? We lose a mediocre QB?

Dak (and any other QB) has the most value to the team they are on. The schemes, the personnel, etc. are all set up around them. That leverage is why Dak is asking for a whole lot of money.

The franchise tag goes on early. If Dak refuses to sign the tender then Dallas has all of free agency, the draft and the offseason to come up with a plan B. Its practically suicide for a QB to do this because they force their own team to acquire another QB and set themselves up to function with him. All of the offseason snaps go to that guy. The wr's work with him.

Holding out could cost Dak a fortune.

Positions like RB or defense can hold out more easily because they are plug and play to an extent. They already don't have the QB leverage to lose and other teams will think they can acquire that guy and go.

A QB maintains his leverage by being QB. Go to all of the work outs. Take all the first string snaps. Take all of the workout time with the receivers. Don't let some other guy in. Make it so that the team panics at the thought of losing him. You don't want to force a team to go through the process of replacing yourself.

Wrong
He should only play under the Tag and then sign a monster contract with the new CBA in place

For him, that would be a great plan but if that is how he tries to play it, then The Cowboys should immediately enter into discussions with other teams and try to deal him for a 1st or 2nd and just move on. Either way, there is a lot of risk for Dak if he decides to do that. Dak could end up in Cleveland or some other small market and it would likely cost him several million in endorsements alone.

This is how every true Cowboy fan should feel but I would make the number 30 mil and say for 30 mil he better show some premier physical abilities.

I'd agree with 30. Just for a little fun I'm gonna do my guess of what Madden would rate Dak compared to others.

Dak Arm Strength - 80
Dak Accuracy - 73
Dak Vision - 75
Dak Scrambler - 80

Mahomes Strength - 96
Mahomes Accuracy - 95
Mahomes Vision - 91
Mahones Scrambler - 85

Rodgers Strength - 96
Rodgers Accuracy - 94
Rodgers Vision - 95
Rodgers Scrambler - 82

Tannehill Strength - 79
Tannehill Accuracy - 75
Tannehill Vision - 73
Tannehill Scrambler - 74

The problem is one of these guys wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL.

First off many "fans" here fail to see that the price of starting QB's goes up EVERY year. As I heard from several didn't places the stumbling isn't the money but the length of the contract. Second you asked what's the worst that could happen, your idea would set the Cowboys back several seasons because they would have to waste valuable draft pick(s) on a QB instead of filling the needs at other positions. If just their 1st round pick is used that means they don't get that defensive lineman or the LB or secondary player they need. If they use more than that 1st pick to trade up then that means even less help else where. With 25 UFA coming due they won't be able to sign all of them and they would have even less draft picks because they drafted a QB even though they feel they have their future QB right here now. Last week on the NFL site I saw a list of the top free agents for 2020 and Prescott was number 1. I seriously doubt that a mediocre QB would be rated as the top free agent. You may think he's mediocre but then I'm so very glad you have nothing to do with the Cowboys player evaluation.

The trick to this is timing. If they're going to tag him, they've got to do it first day and take a read on what his agent will be advising. They would need to know whether to go for one of the vets or draft one and then have to balance that against him coming in.

If they tag him at 27.5M, they're pretty hamstrung on bringing in a Brady or a Rivers for 25-30M, they have to go with a rookie and good luck at 17. The top 3 QB's and that 3rd one is a stretch will be gone by the 6th pick.

If they decide to tag him, there is no way he holds out. A new offense is being installed and they're not going to teach that to him in season. He would be forfeiting $1,718,750 a game. Does anyone here think any player would do that? How many actually carry though a hold out for the season? Bell was the last to do that and that was a total fail and everyone in the league knows it.

If Prescott were to hold out a day, that would be the time to dump him as he's not the QB for this team. That's why it's not getting there. He will be signed and there will be a lot of pissed off posters here. I can't say I will be happy but I do understand the situation they're in and it's not like they didn't try to avoid this last season.

The amount of leverage an agent can apply is directly proportionate to the lack of options and the Cowboys have few unless they act quickly. If they can't get a deal, go for Rivers or maybe even Brady, and try to position in the draft for maybe Eason.

No, you plan to draft a QB and you plan to sign an FA because we don't have a backup that can come in and give us a chance to win a game for us at this point. If we did, he would have played last season when Dak, according to many, was injured to the point where he couldn't even hit a 10 yard dump off pass in a must game win. So we really need to do both of those things regardless. The trick is, how high do you make the pick for a QB in the draft and I'd base that on the progress made in contract discussion with Dak, prior to the draft. If you Tag Dak and he refuses, then you just have to make the decision to let him sit. I mean, it's going to cost him more then anybody else so take that money and use it to go get a backup, potential starter. The QB doesn't have to be Brady. It could be one of several others expected to be available. I think there will be options in the draft because there are lot fo options in the draft and teams will likely take those QBs over more expensive Vets IMO. But I do agree, the sooner the better.

There needs to be some distractions for Fat Mikey to overcome. Our QB holding out would be perfect.

Let’s see how we do with Cooper Rush and this SB caliber coaching staff. Lol

If Dak holds out, yes. But there will be other options. We need to draft a QB in this years draft, probably in the 4th or higher if an opportunity presents itsself.

drafting a QB is clearly a good move, in almost any year. I don't trust us to get another good starter and no Case Keenum is not a good starter
