George Edwards, who spent the last six years as the Minnesota Vikings coordinator, is interviewing with the Cowboys regarding a spot on the defensive staff, according to a source. Edwards was the Cowboys linebackers coach from 1998-2001. The Cowboys have filled their defensive position coach roles, but Mike McCarthy could look to add Edwards under an unspecified title.

Interesting.
I would have thought another NFL team would have already wanted to add Edwards to their staff.
i'd be interested to see what job role and title the Cowboys would be interested in hiring him for.

Oh, you mean we're not going to just hand the position to Sean Lee? Works for me.

That's not an indictment on Lee - I think he actually has the pedigree to move up the coaching ladder, but at least make him step on the first few rungs first.

They have a few Defensive Assistant positions that need filled. Unless McCurley was brought in as a LB assistant and not the LB coach.

Also Tomsula is the DL coach, so will they have a coach or Assistant for the DE and DT positions as well.
However I am all in for bringing him in.

He'll be playing next year.

I'd love to see them work something out. I thought the linebackers coach they did hire was for assistant linebackers coach anyway.

Has Lee said he is retiring as a player?

No - he'll either come back on another one year rental or retire. Not sure what is interest would be with going to another team at this stage or even if they'd want him.

McCurley was never named LB coach, just that he would work with the linebackers. Makes sense he's the asst to Edwards if hired.

That would be a huge upgrade and make me more comfortable with Mike Nolan who is not a defense builder or schemer. If you look at the Vikings defense and their draft picks on defense Edwards and Zimmer did a heck of a job keeping that team through its defense in contention past divisional playoff rounds with NFC Championship game appearances (not been done in Dallas since 1995).

He was the LB coach the last 2 times the 90's Cowboys made the playoffs under Chan Gailey (who is still coaching in the NFL). He made Dat Nguyen, Dexter Coakley, Randall Godfrey, and Darren "what do voluntary means" Hambrick into the very good LB core until the in a poor period for the Cowboys under Dave Campo the Clown.

If you are going to keep the 4-3, you need George Edwards.

Don't they have FOM Scott McCurley currently as the linebackers coach? If so, this would be a good addition.
