Tony Pauline is reporting that word down in Mobile is the Eagles are looking to revamp their CBs and Jones and Chris Harris are two names they are in on.

On one hand, I see the logic in us not getting into a bidding match for Jones. But on the other hand, having him in Philly would make them much better at an area of weakness.

I am generally curious to see what we do with Jones.

I also think San Diego, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Washington, and many other teams with some cap room will be targeting Jones.

We been hearing how good the Eagles secondary is for years, but yet they never seem to be all that good. But they also had a lot of injuries.
I really do not think Jones will help them all that much. He is decent, but he gets no picks, and this past season gave up more receptions than he did the year before. Now that is they way it seemed, I have not looked up any actual stats.

He will be a solid pick up, but I don't fear him. However maybe in the right scheme and coaching he can be that player. Which is why I would be ok if he stays here at the right price.

Well, they liked Troy Vincent so would make sense. Very similar players.

Not an easy answer especially if the Eagles are in play..........I'm thinking maybe get Dak done (and Coop if we can ) and use the transitional tag on Byron that at least give us a chance to match. But I honestly believe they're going to let him walk and target his replacement with a mid-level free agent or top 2 draft pick.

Even if we lose Byron, he'll probably generate a third round comp pick for us.

It's hard to see how we're going to be able to retain him as it feels like the FO is more keen on keeping the Dak -> Amari connection alive and well.

Do you think he will get that big of a contract?
We should at least get a 4th, but if we can get a 3rd, I think that would be pretty good. We could end up with 4 comp picks. And get a 3rd, maybe 2, and a f4th and 5th.

this is why I hope they don't sign. too many high player FA's to offset what we will lose. With 24 FA's, and we lose 8 but sign 4. We can get those 4 comp picks.
This could be a strategy they look at. Then have a sold draft. Build for the long haul, not just next season.

Byron is a good player but he will cost too much. The fact that he is not a ball-hawk has always made it feel easier to see him go, at least for me but I have appreciated his coverage ability (mostly) the last couple of seasons but I don't think he's worth huge money...I like the idea of a comp pick for him, especially as a 3rd.

Who better to evaluate DB's than the guy that had to game plan against them?

I am in the minority but Byron Jones would be a critical keep for me. He's the most consistent player on the D and one of the two best. And if a team wants to make their CB's better, get good Safeties.

Their luck with former Cowboys players is not very good.

This is how the Eagles operate. They will fill their holes in free agency then draft BPA. If the Eagles get a secondary they will have a dangerous defense. Plus, the Eagles have a history of making moves just to hurt Dallas. I still think Jones will be a Giant next year. Jones is going to get some unbelievable contract offers. As much as I hate to see him go to a division rival, I would not overspend on him. Fix the defensive line and we can get away with lesser CBs.

he gave up 34 catches last season.

he is technically a lock down corner.

Naturally. He’s a talented player at a premium position. The market should be robust for him. Noteworthy though because it’s Philly. Always bugs me when they start sniffing around our guys

You should fear him because he's among the best in the NFL. I get turnovers are some fans' barometer, but he simply doesn't get passed on often and very few completions. I hope he stays because lock down CBs are tough to find.

I think it's very possible that Jones gets a contract in the $13M per year range which would likely put him around that #3 range. Jones is still young at 27 and I think he'll have his suitors.
