At a time when there's plenty of talk about players betting on themselves, Dak Prescott made one of the biggest self-bets in NFL history. And he has won. Prescott refused any and all long-ter...

It's not really leverage unless they think he'd really be a no show while a new offense is being installed. No QB would do that unless he wanted free of that franchise and he hasn't shown that.

No, holding out in any form is not leverage, it is the end to a career as the Cowboys QB and he knows he wouldn't have that 7M a year in endorsements if he didn't have that star on his helmet.

And from management's point of view, they cannot let it even approach that point because the image of the Cowboys QB is more important to them than any other team and he's a good story.

Neither side will let this get to any form of a hold out. Think about Prescott holding out until the regular season begins and just walking in to pick up paychecks not knowing anything about the new offense. Think the Joneses would let that happen, do that to their new coaching staff?

No he doesn't.
Citing Flacco as an example is a reason to NOT extend Prescott.

The Ravens ended up surrounding him with lesser players and he never came close to duplicating the SB run.
Bingo.

Then they drafted the best quarterback in the league and look like legit contenders for the next few years.

This notion that we HAVE to pay Prescott whatever he demands is such a load of crap.

Dak is in a can't lose situation. Jerry just needs to give him a blank check and cut his losses.

well, they had a unique and polarizing prospect fall into their laps very late in the first. again, these are not things that typically happen. i mean hell just in trying to draft Dak we narrowly missed out on massive busts in Cook and Lynch. But yes if we were able to get a legit MVP candidate QB without having to mortgage the house, yes, it would be the sensible move. As it would be for about 25 other teams

It’s leverage cause frikin Jerry has no Plan B. And he’s always publicly promoting Daks our future. Cowboys have Zero leverage.

Go ahead, over pay the man Jethro and Son and move on. Lol

I like how you're acting like this is a Jerry issue. This is true for pretty much every team in the league with an elite QB.

So what are Joneses supposed to say? Dak is average? We need to bring in competition? Any quarterback can run this offense with Zeke and the offensive line? We are going to keep in eye on Tua to see if he drops? Cowboys zone, you do not poop on your quarterback. It’s called negotiating.

And if Jerry had given Dak 25MM per before the season fans would have melted down, but it would be a bargain right now.

The real issue is Dak's agent (correctly) held off on an extension when Dak started the season on a hot streak. It was the right move by the agent and its really not about Dak or Jerry.

Agreed.

I think fans sometimes forget that players have to actually sign the contracts too lol.

You don’t say anything beyond negotiations are ongoing. You let your actions speak for themselves.

And Prescott has played that "everybody can be paid" card just like Flacco saying he didn't want his deal, 20M at the time, to cause them to let others walk, which is exactly what they did. There was no way they could keep that SB team and as we know, the hyenas show up for the SB champ. Larry Brown can attest to that.

I don't fault any player for going for the gold, taking care of themselves, just don't insult people with comments like they give a damn about what the others get.

People even made some deal out of Brady taking less, he had no choice and Kraft said so. That was the compromise he made to stay in NE. He didn't take less to stock the team.

Back in the day, Jordan took less in the short run so they could stock the team with the understanding he would be rewarded and he was. He was the first pro athlete to get 30M a year.

Pro sports is dog eat dog, accepting that makes it a lot easier to accept them. I would be the same way. To hell with the team, pay me.

Then the talking heads would have a field day with bs takes. You have to respect your quarterback if you believe in him. The Joneses believe in Dak.
