Is there a better player at 17 than Jamal Adams?

Take Delpit if you want a S or Kinlaw if you want a DT.

I personally prefer a dominant DL because it is more disruptive than a dominant Secondary.
Delpit will likely be gone at 17 but trade down and pick up an extra 3rd and draft Xavier out of Alabama who many say may actually turn out to be better than Delpit.

Would be smart to gauge the Jets' asking price before the draft and leave yourself in a position to revisit talks on draft day.

For example, if they are still on their "multiple picks and Zack Martin" kick, politely say okay, thanks, and hang up the phone.

If they are more reasonable but still higher than we'd like to pay, then we can call on draft day, especially if the guys we really like start going before our pick. If we don't like the choices at 17, I'd be comfortable with something like our 1st round pick, Connor Williams, and a conditional (2nd or 3rd round) 2021 pick. yes, Adams is another contract to take care of, but that becomes 2021's problem, and we are very much in need of playmakers on this defense.

I seen something like $17 million, that may be over 2 years though. Then he will want more. Which is why I said no thanks above.

landon collins makes 14m/yr. that 17 if accurate is not over 2 years.

No..there is not

man after we failed to land him, the dude went on an ****** tear! i remember one game he had THREE sacks, and that play where he literally just took the ball from Daniel Jones and ran it in for the score. One of the more impressive defensive players I've seen in a long time.

  • 1. Titans safety Kevin Byard: $14.1 million
  • 2. Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu: $14 million
  • 3. Commanders safety Landon Collins: $14 million
  • 4. Ravens safety Earl Thomas: $13.75 million
  • 5. Dolphins safety Reshad Jones: $12 million

It's an average of the top 5 correct? so tag should settle in around 13.

I think we stick to the draft this year. DT and Safety. Unless a quality O-Lineman drops to us. Maybe a WR.

There are much cheaper players at 17. Adams is going to be very expensive when the contract comes due.

why is that a worry if Adams is ballin for you in making plays, setting the tone and being a leader ?
Like it or not, you're gonna have to pay stud players the big money.

and stud safeties are more harder to find than what people realize.
And how long have we been in the search for one ?

Adams is better than any player at 17 but he plays a non-impact position.

I don't know what it would take to get him or why they would want to trade him but if a deal can be made for just the Cowboys 1st, would they not be foolish not to take it?

Even if they had to toss in some 3rd day picks, isn't proof that a player can play at the NFL level not an inducement?

And if they don't keep Jones, the best player in their secondary, how do they address that secondary?

I would seriously consider keeping Jones and trading for Adams, if a reasonable trade can be executed.

Let's be honest, except for OL, the Cowboys picks in the 1st round are a crap shoot. They're 11 spots better than when they took Charleton but does that make you feel confident?
Grant Delpit S LSU. He can play FS, SS, and CB. He makes big time plays (see force fumble on clemson QB) in big time games.

Ah CHEAPER players

even though we’re in a window right now before the oline begins to collapse with age... zeke is on that wrong side of 29... and dlaw is a shell of his old self collecting the last of his contract

Highly doubt there is an equal player at 17 but the team is already lacking in 1st round picks contributing at a high level while still on their rookie deal. Give me he next 5 years of Delpit on a rookie deal over Adams at $17 million a year. Dallas needs to hit big on their 1st and 2nd round picks this year to make up for Taco and Hill. They need young inexpensive immediate contributors at numerous key positions. The draft is the only place to get those.

I would love to have Adams, but he only has one year left on his contract, so in a year we would be in the same situation we are in with Cooper now. If, however, we could work out a new contract along with the trade, that would make it more attractive. Still, it eventually could contribute to a salary cap problem if we keep trading 1st round draft picks for high priced veterans.

Well, they didn’t use the same logic with Amari. Look how much money AJ Brown makes and he put up similar umbers on a team that doesn’t even pass the ball.

Will he be there at 17?
He is a jr. and the highest I have seen him rank is 12 overall. He had a up and down season because of injuries but he is not injury prone (he played through it). So he could be there at 17 or not far from it to move up or down.

There is a difference between doing that kind of deal once, and doing it a second time or more within just a couple of years. A team can probably make things work taking the salary cap hit doing this once, but it can't keep doing it over and over without getting in a big bind.

Jamal Adams is a proven All Pro player. He would add a legit playmaker to the third level of our D. Yes-- you would have to pay him-- but there is no guarantee that Delpit is even there at 17, nor that he would become an All Pro player at Adams' level... so-- there is risk either way.

Also-- Adams would step in and help us immediately, whereas Delpit would need to adjust to the NFL and take his rookie lumps. IMO-- if you want to immediately upgrade the S position and you are in a "win now" mode-- Adams is your man. If you want to shape the roster for a year or two and are playing with a 3-5 year window-- sit tight and take Delpit.
