I ve been a fan of this team for 50+ years.

Ever since FA appeared, we have tried to beat the system and try to circumvent the rules.

Now the system has boxed us into a corner.

The team has tried Dak as the Franchise QB and just can't get it done.

Multi-million dollar OL..

Multi-million dollar RB..

soon to be multi-million dollar WR..

soon to be multi-million dollar QB

No titles on the wall..

HC and staff just fired.

Sorry.

Paying Dak at this point will destroy this team for the next 5 years or however long Dak is signed for.

The Jones made a huge decision to finally end the Garrett Experiment in favor of a real football coach.

They righted the ship. But now they are about to mortgage all the future on Dak?

Beyond belief to me.

We have worked for decades to fix our cap, draft wisely, hire capable executives like Will Clay to steer the course..

and we are going to sink everything into a 4th rd draft pick who has come up short like Dak has?

Impossible to believe but it's about to happen.

Whoda think it?

Don't want to beat this into the ground but this team is really in a pickle.

Pass the ketchup and chili.

I need something to disguise this hotdog as I am being asked to eat this thing as a fan.

I know there are tons of threads screaming about alternative paths for this.

As I look at teams who have paid their QBs the big contract, I see them on the sidelines and not playing for a SB.

The Vikes, Packers, Commanders, Pat's, Chargers, Carolina and several others nailed to cap numbers that are designed to stop their ambitions.

Only the 9ers with Jimmy G is paid and playing for a title. But look closely.

He did not have a great season. He completed like 6 passes in each half of the NFC Championship.

I think if that is what it takes..

then keep your money Jerrah.

Let Dak walk and find another QB. I could care less if Dak has the team over a barrel or visa versa.

If Dallas pulls the contract off the table..we are free of all this. Dak can hope some other team to spend the huge salaries required to support his average skill sets.

They won't. Plus pay him $35 mil/yr?

Not going to happen.

I would prefer letting McCarthy go find a QB he wants and play ball.

Draft a defense and another QB or sign a FA QB and in a couple of years before all the offensive guys we have signed start retiring. .

we will have a real shot.

For once I want to see a coordinated push with management, coaching and players and fans united in a clear goal we all agree can work.

Too much to ask?

Comments.

I am never against drafting a QB if you think he is the next Payton Manning or Mahommes. But the odds of finding a QB as good as Dak is (and he is better than I thought he was going into the season in 19) is easier said than done.

We should have signed Dak when we had the chance to a team friendly deal. Now he may end up playing out the season on the FT.

I think you offer Dak 30M/yr with some out clauses, and go. If he takes it draft low a new trainee. If he doesn't then tag him and draft higher the guy with the most upside. You aren't destroying the cap by offering QB 30, #1 WR 15, and #1 CB 10........now whether they will take it is another story. Dak is the only one I would say tag if he doesn't take it this year, and that is only to allow your new HC/QB coach to find the guy he wants there, if Dak is unreasonable with pay.

With this said, it always works this way. Dallas knew with Romo they had to upgrade the line, so they did, and paid handsomely. That made the QB and RB look good, so they wanted paid handsomely as well. LOL, just a vicious cycle. Would the RB, QB or WR look anywhere near this good if they didn't have a very good line......NOPE, but they want to play hardball for more $$$$$. None of them would look good behind say Cincinnati's line.
He would never sign that. Tag him.

So no mention of defense, special teams or coaching?

Dak should overcome all of that and win Super Bowls anyways?
:lmao2:
So you are going to hamstring the coach with 35 million less in talent per year and expect better results than the past?

How about we sit back and see what he can do under a new coaching staff? a lot of the Cowboys positions didn't look good this year. Give the guy a non exclusive franchise tag or better yet, a transition tag, and see what happens. If the Cowboys give him an exclusive franchise tag then we'll know they're nuts. No hope.

LOL “the coach”?

It’s a different head coach with a different defensive coordinator and a different special teams coordinator. Coaching matters.

Top 10 QBs don’t grow on trees.

Dak’s good, young, durable, tough and works his butt off. He’s gotten better as a passer and will keep getting better. Romo wasn’t a finished product at age 26-27 either.

Yes.. We're stupid.

We reward players like they have won a championship when they haven't...

Buh buh buh the market... That is the excuse.. Because other teams are stupid means Dallas has to be as well.

Meanwhile we just keep seeing QB's on rookie deals and elite QB's taking paycuts win titles.

I'm holding out a small bit of hope because the Cowboys have not paid the guy yet and these tactics by Stephen Jones may be to apply pressure and they will hold firm at their price.

They always supported Garrett publicly and still do but eventually got rid of him.

I think they can support Dak publicly but hopefully in private they aren't delusional about the type of money he is worth.
I am with you.

I can handle delaying dumping all this money into one player and would rather sign a fist full of FA defensive players..

let McCarthy take a less expensive QB who has skills and is hungry.

Dak seems only for his paycheck.

Not producing what is needed to earn it.

We all appreciate what he has tried to do for us as fans.

But his results have been less than he should be producing at this point.

I'm so tired of these posts, they are so blind to how the league and FA market actually work. You guys want to sign some hypothetical "good" QB for $20-25m instead of paying Dak a normal market rate of $35m.

Fine, say the Cowboys sign Teddy Bridgewater (or whatever *insert name* schlub you throw out who would take this money) to a deal for $23m a year for 2 years. That saves this team from the DESTRUCTION you posit in your post in a league where the salary cap is going well north of $200m??

That ~$12m a year in savings is the SALVATION of this team that will then have to bridge the step-down from Dak to Teddy/Keenum/etc?? That money doesn't even get you Byron Jones. It gets you one good starter on Defense. It might barely get you Robert Quinn back. So how do you justify that savings as the boost that gets this team over the hump and saves the Cowboys from this "massive mistake"? Its silly.

Average doesn't win super bowls neither does 8-8 or 9 points in a must win game and Dak choked yet again, but we get it that Darn bad D. Get real, the jokes and laughs are on you.

You will now be called every name, and be a hater just because you do not believe middle of the road Dak should take up huge top amount of $ and then have to pay top $ for all the talent on Offense he needs to elevate his game. Not to worry Jerry will make another huge mistake just like he did with Mr Tank-less Lawrence who did his yearly disappearing act. You can't have a great D when you spend your capital on suspect Offense pieces at top value, but again you must be a hater and stupid like so many of us that just do not see it. Many more years of Jerry special seasons to come because Jerry can't see how the last 4 were wasted with a average QB.and a average D. and it is not getting better anytime soon when the franchise is run by a fool. wonder what bone head draft pick is coming.

My only comment is: Dak will be signed. You don't have to like it, but it will happen. He may not be what you want in a QB but he has established three things:
  1. He is a leader. His teammates respect and follow him.
  2. He is dependable, durable and coachable.
  3. He can win.
My question to you, Redball Express: Can you handle it?

not all of that but he will have to pick up the slack and elevate everyone around him a whole lot more when he is making $35m+ a season and won’t be able to rely on everything and everyone being “dak friendly” anymore with the salary cap.

We had a relatively healthy roster and still couldn't win the division with the Eagles completely banged up.

Then he has the nerve to ask for 35+ million a year? lolllll

What is the incentive to win a championship when you're paying a mediocre player like they have already done that?

which rookie deal qb has won a title other than Russ since Big Ben?

3/4 conference championship QBs were not on rookie deals.

there are just different ways to skin a cat. We happen to have an offense littered with skill position studs, and if not for whiffing big on taco and hill and losing LVE think we could’ve seen some impressive results personally.

after years of being fiscal, biting bullets, shopping in trash heaps, we’ve managed to be in a position where we can afford pretty much everyone and still be in solid shape moving forward. And you want to do what with that luxury? Rebuild?

no thanks

The answer to the question is who can you sign that is better than Dak for next season?

I do think Dallas should always be looking for new talent but that is not Jerry's mo...

Dak is the best that you can sign for next season & Jerry will sign him, and their will be no talented QB in the bullpen ready to play in the event Dak is hurt.

You're in denial about the Cowboys not willing to pay Dak, and you're wrong to believe Dak is average.
