Prepare for the future with another QB and a prospect that can project to a starter. Not just a guy who projects to an extra point holder.

This is what Jerry *failed* to do with Zeke and Dak for years. (Mike White was on the Jets PS last year.)

Sure glad we spent that panic pick on Schultz.

So what are Joneses supposed to say? Dak is average? We need to bring in competition? Any quarterback can run this offense with Zeke and the offensive line? We are going to keep in eye on Tua to see if he drops? Cowboys zone, you do not poop on your quarterback. It’s called negotiating.
How about keeping their mouths shut like most GM's in the league

It's not really leverage unless they think he'd really be a no show while a new offense is being installed. No QB would do that unless he wanted free of that franchise and he hasn't shown that.

No, holding out in any form is not leverage, it is the end to a career as the Cowboys QB and he knows he wouldn't have that 7M a year in endorsements if he didn't have that star on his helmet.

And from management's point of view, they cannot let it even approach that point because the image of the Cowboys QB is more important to them than any other team and he's a good story.

Neither side will let this get to any form of a hold out. Think about Prescott holding out until the regular season begins and just walking in to pick up paychecks not knowing anything about the new offense. Think the Joneses would let that happen, do that to their new coaching staff?

Since when do you have to be the QB of the Cowboys to earn $7mil in endorsements? Laziest comment ever.

It’s Jerry’s fault we didn’t sign him cheap when we could
Then same fans would have bashed had he signed him then
I was all for letting him prove it another year
He proved he’s a starting NFL QB
Now you have to pay him
And if it’s 35 mil that will be cheap in a few years
It's not Jerry on this one.
It's his son, the guy who does the contracts and manages the team's salaries.

Dak Prescott has unique leverage over the Cowboys

At a time when there's plenty of talk about players betting on themselves, Dak Prescott made one of the biggest self-bets in NFL history. And he has won. Prescott refused any and all long-ter...

Rediculous. Dak is tinkering with well do i want 32 mil a,year, 33 mil a year maybe 35 mil a year. He should worry more about getting a comfortable contract signed and get ready for the season. Personally if Im the Cowboys I find a free agent QB thats, descent and you can win with like Miami did with Fitzpatrick than i slap the first tag on Dak so if another team signs him we could get rwo number 1's if he walks i draft another QB and have another #1 and move on. If Dak doesnt and holds out through camps than reports before the season he might start on the bench if the other guy was here all camp and ready. This might bust his chops. Look Dak is no Mahommes or Lamar Jackson they got their teams in the playoffs what did Dak do ? well he had impressive stats and an 8-8 record.

i wonder how much jerry really loves dak. i know what he says to the media, but if jerry really thought dak was a bonafied franchise quarterback and the guy to lead them to a super bowl i think he would have a contract a long time ago. i just know jerry is the one who told the media the cowboys had to make everything dak friendly and that is not something u say about a guy u believe is worthy of being one of if not the highest paid qb in nfl history...so i think jerry has big time reservations about dak.

i think the biggest thing is that jerry realizes that if he screws this up he will almost certainly never get that 4th super bowl he wants so badly.

I'm on board with letting Dak hold out and signing Rivers. This team would flourish. Dak just isn't that good of a QB. Great dude...average QB.

Correct

Real negotiators plan for worse case scenario. Jethro and Son have No Plan B which translates to no leverage in negotiations. It’s so pitiful.

It will play out much like Zeke . We will pay top dollar.
And then like the rest of our high dollar contracts, play will get worse or suspension, injury, etc lol

Can anyone think of any QB in NFL history with extensive starting experience who suddenly jumped from mediocre to elite in their late 20s?

There are QBs such as Staubach & Warner who became elite in their late 20s, but these are guys who never got a chance to start or even play until then.

By contrast there are loads of QBs who showed promise in their early to mid 20s - sometimes having a couple of great seasons - who nose dived in their late 20s.

The truth is that the odds of Dak suddenly turning into an elite QB - even with a coaching change - are miniscule.

The biggest leverage Dak has is Jerry’s total GM-crush on his QB skills.

Whatever Jerry wants (see: $250mil boat), Jerry gets.

Leverage? hmmm history has shown us when Jerry believes in a player he PAYS!
D-Law,Zeke,Romo,Dez,Off-lineman all got there money without any major obstacles.
Now it's pretty evident that Jerry&Sons have doubts or Dak would have been signed up last off-season.
It will be a very interesting off-season and all is possible and nothing at this point is certain.
