Funny considering the 2007 cowboys had 5 pro bowlers on defense and was stastically on par with the giants defense that year.....
Yeah the 2007 team alone had 5 pro bowlers on defense for the cowboys. People act like the giants defense lead them to victory alone but if that was the case then why did the cowboys and patriots lose to the giants when there defense was stastically on par with them ???
Right. They had a great defensive line but not a great defense.

Eli very smart to get out of there before Garrett mucks up his HOF chances...

:lmao2::lmao2:
I doubt Eli would even have started. The Giants seem pretty serious about passing the torch at this point

I don't think anyone would put him in the truly "great" category alongside Brady, Peyton, Unitas etc …. but he was more than average, and certainly good enough for long enough to be a serious HOF contender. He's not going to be a 1st ballot guy, or probably even 2nd or 3rd ballot. It wouldn't surprise me if it takes 5-6 years.
Was he more than average?

I checked a couple years ago, and he averaged around 17th in the league in passer rating over his career. He is the poster child for average.

And yet he received more votes than any other receiver for the 1970s All-Decade team (including Drew and Largent) and was first team All-Pro in 1977, which literally means that you were considered to be the best that year. Anything else you misremember?
Drew Pearson 3 first team all pros. Largent only 1 All Pro but better body of Work. Stallworth his Team mate Also 1 all pro and better body of work. Swann never broke 1000 yards receiving. Kelvin Martin almost has as many yards receiving he has in the same amount of years.

hopefully not first ballot, it will be easier to accept if he has to wait a few times around lol

First Ballot.
He is the Jeter equivalent.
The bigger the moment. The better he was. Twice.

I’m not a fan and don’t agree with first ballot. But this is what it is.

We must still respect him as a football player...not many could play ball at his level.

Biggest chucker in the history of the league. His wrs made historically great catches and bailed him out repeatedly.
That ‘07 defensive line was outstanding. In the playoffs that year, they got hot and applied so much pressure on the opposing QB that it was incredibly difficult for offenses to even throw the ball. That ‘07 Patriots offense was among the best ever and Brady just wilted under the relentless pressure of that Giants NASCAR package.

They carried Eli to that championship... but he did do his part to not muck it up.

Wouldn't shock me either way.
Sometimes decisions are made that just make you shake your head.
A lot would have to change. And it’s not uncommon at all for candidates to pick up votes as time goes on and the pros and cons of each candidate are weighed. But right now it seems like a bridge. He’s not the lock, to even get in, that a lot of people seem to think (or are trying to make happen by force of will).

Despite accumulating numbers, including interceptions, he was never considered a top 10 QB at any point in his career.

His 2 wins over Brady will be the only reason he will be getting in.

last time I checked, the defense is what did Brady in and not Eli.
