I don't think Byron Jones will be back

I don’t think there’s anyway B. Jones is back. You need solid pieces for your top 5. QB, LT, DE, WR, CB

Last years 15th pick was Haskins. He got 8 mill first year and fully guaranteed 14 mill for 4 years.

I hope a stud CB makes it to 17. The average per year for a top 5 CB is 15 mill or so.

To me it’s a no brained. Use that money somewhere else. DT or Safety. Most likely DT.

They can, pretty easily lol. The idea that the Cowboys are under some crazy cap crunch is made up by fans. At cap hits of:

Dak - $25m
Amari - $17m
Byron - $15m
Quinn - $10m

You've got another $15m to play with before you do a single thing, and that's probably high end with how they'll structure those contracts.

might be in the minority but want Byron and Quinn gone. I like Byron but not at his price/production and where resources have been spent like on Zeke. Quinn I saw a stat that he’s terrible against the run. I don’t like that at all. If only a back up would step up lol. Basically we need contributions from cheap contracts on the roster or this years draft.

I think moves like this could get us a good DT in free agency.

I think he's very good but will get paid elite money, so he won't be back.

I'm sort of expecting a clean out in regards to most of the teams ufas and MM getting some decent to good FAs. Especially if Mike goes to Jj and SJ telling him he needs that player

BJ31 is a really good football player.
Not every system is conducive to a play-making CB. That's for high attack oriented trams that will give up some big plays to create some. DAL played the far more conservative zone style defense.

All that said we knew entering this year that BJ31 was likely getting squeezed out if he got elite CB offers. I mean KC paid Hitchens 10m a year and defense has shown up this season to where teams will likely ovepay Jones in free agency.

You simply can't keep them all.

Letting Jones walk then recouping a 3rd or 4th round pick for him is not that bad a move.
DAL had 4 legit CBs. They need to bring 4 but Chido and Brown and Lewis are all starting caliber guys. So they can draft or sign one legit FA without it being a CB1 and go to war.

All that said it always comes down to money.
For Stephen to be leaking this as the a staff is gathered in Frisco evaluating guys and off-season moves he probably sees the money doesn't fit.

He will have to sign a very friendly deal. A few years ago teams didn’t even throw to his side and he was ranked the best despite having little or no picks. I think it’s the scheme and what they are taught. Seems our CB never look back for the ball.

There are multiple cbs available to sign if they dont sign byron. But byron is pretty durable.
Absolutely no argument there. The big problem is being able to afford him along with Coop & Dak. Rumor has it the Egals are after him.

No one wants to pay Jones because he didn’t have ints in his only two years at the position....in a defensive scheme where no one gets ints. We’ve had first rounders to big money free agents and everything in between at CB in this system, yet none of them has created turnovers, but we want to judge Jones, whom QBs avoid, for not having interceptions. Does that make sense?

Jones is by far the best CB on the team....don’t make me laugh mentioning Lewis. It’s not even close. When a guy covers well and teams continually throw most passes at the other side of the field, and when that guy can also cover the best TEs in the league when asked, yes, that guy is worth paying. No one knows what any of our guys can do regarding INTs because we haven’t had that from any CB or Safety in the past decade with this defensive scheme.

Let Jones walk and have Lewis, Awuzie, and Someone else, maybe Brown if resigned, as your starters....you’ll see how good Jones was.
Very very very well said. I think jones could flourish in our new d. But there’s always that thought in back of my mind that his athleticism. If it starts going he will falter quickly. Let’s hope not if he resigns lol p

There are no DTs of Jones' calibre available in free agency. There almost never is.

I could buy that a lesser DT will have more of an impact, but you aren't getting the same quality of player.

This is true. Even so when there are you could get someone like Josh Norman. More productive than Jones. Most would agree overpaid now given his production in Washington but deserved it after production with Panthers.

Jones has never been known for interceptions. If he had a Josh Norman type year I’d be more inclined. Only way they keep Jones is if they see his value of stopping TE’s. Both SB teams TE’s beat up on teams at times.

I’m ready for Lewis, Awuzie, and draft pick. I think with a stronger interior the drop off at CB won’t be so noticeable. Brown might resign on the cheap but he also had his moments in his career and could slip away. I might again be in the minority but think Awuzie was way better before he played off coverage all the time. I think he can have a better year.

And yet, athleticism is what makes most players at most positions great. We can worry about every great player...what happens when Lamar Jackson's athletic ability fades? What happens when Ramsey's athletic ability fades? Saquan Barkley?

This is only Jones's 2nd contract. He's a young guy, and it's not like he's laying back off of people and using his athletic ability to dart in and make ints after making it look like guys are open. He's covering them.

I think that is the only thing going for him. Still not worth top money for a durable db that dont make plays.

So with that being said, yes there are other dbs that can do what Jones cant, but they may miss a game or 2 a season.

Well we can just throw our zone integrity out the window then...that’s that!
