If we could sign only one, which should it be? A week ago, I would have said Cooper, hands down. Now, I am not so sure. I have seen a few interviews with Cooper lately and what I see is a guy who says he wants to stay, but he lacks passion. I think the lack of passion shows up on the field. He seems to play with little or no emotion. He is a good receiver, but is he a fit in Dallas? He plays with his head down, if you know what I mean. He is not Michael Irvin, TO, or Dez in this regard. He makes plays but it never looks like he is giving 100%. He disappeared down the stretch when they really needed him.

Looking at the averages of other WRs in the league, I would be shocked if Cooper does not want at least $16 million per year. In 2018, Mike Evans of the Bucs signed for 5 years and $82 million, or $16.5 million/year. Julio Jones and Michael Thomas average $22 million and $19.5 million respectively. I think it will take at least what Evans got if not more to sign Cooper.

CBs average a little less. The top CBs salary is about $15 million/year. I am guessing Jones will be offered at least 5 yrs, $75 million. The question is, would you rather have Cooper for $17-18 million a year or Jones for $15 miillion - or neither?

Hoping they can find a way to get both under contract. If I had to pick 1 over the other then I go with Cooper. I think we all saw especially in 2018 what an impact he made. Before he got to Dallas they struggled once he got into the lineup this team reeled off 7 out of 8 wins. I do think he was dealing with injuries this past season that slowed him down despite the fact he still put up his best yardage season and TD catches for a season.

Cooper is the MVP of the team. If he doesn't play well we don't win games and our QB looks terrible.
That's the enigma, when he doesn't play well.
As much as I wanted to say and want to say right now that Coop was dealing with some serious injuries for most of the season, and playing hurt,, The Cowboys staff denied that Coop had any injury all season,,, very confused right now with who really is Coop?

Cooper's demeanor has been the same through his whole career. It's just the type of personality trait he has. I compare it to kawhi Leonard in some ways. I'm sure other can think of examples as well. It's always this stone cold face and expression 24/7. Doesn't mean he doesn't care. Just means he doesn't show it in the same ways. No one was complaining last year when he sky rocketed the offense and put up 100 yard games and multiple TDs against Philly and Washington. Yet, he still had the same demeanor during the post game interviews. Everyone remember that photo with Dak after the Thanksgiving game? Dak is all smiles and Cooper is looking deadpan into the camera. It's just who he is. No biggie to me.

Depends.

If monster DT Javon Kinlaw and the top Safety in the draft is taken by the time the Cowboys draft at #17, you could go after the best playmaking WR in the draft. 6'2", 220 lbs, 4.3s 40 yd dash, quick, fast, aggressive, great hands, determined, athletic, hard to bring down, etc. Another Dez but faster. He can play inside at the Slot or outside at one of the WR positions, plus he would fit in very nicely with McCarthy's West Coast Offense infusion mix. A short/quick, intermediate and deep striker.

Love Coop when he is on his game, but Coop scares me a bit with his injuries, and I cant quite put my finger on it, but is he just an extremely humble person, or does he lack the compassion to really be an elite WR?
I say Byron Jones because we're about to move to the West Coast offense. You don't really need a great receiver in the WCO. Besides, I think Gallup is about to overtake Cooper as a top wide receiver.

Meanwhile, I believe Byron Jones is one of the most underrated players on this team. This guy is close to a lockdown corner as you'll find. He's built well, fast and is dependable. And, personally, I think the Cowboys defensive scheme is the reason we don't get as many picks as we should. We have been woeful in that department because of coaching not because our defensive backs aren't capable. It's been the same when Carr was here. In Carr's first two years with the Cowboys, he has 6 picks (3 his first year, 3 his second year). Then he has two seasons with zero picks and his last season with 1. He goes to the Ravens and immediately has 4 picks and follows the next year with 2 before collecting none this year.

I'm willing to bet with a new defensive scheme, Jones collects more interceptions. And I think if he goes to another team, he will start collecting picks.
I just don't think we need to be giving up key defensive pieces.

Besides, there are a slew of very good to great wide receivers coming out in the draft. I don't think we should have given up a first for Cooper. I think he could have been had for a second and a package of additional picks. But that's water under the bridge now.

that's an interesting ?.If you would have asked me last year Id say its a stupid question because of what cooper means to this offense and Byron's lack of int's. This year Coopers performances on the road and him being hurt so frequent gave me a red flag.

Now if you said id have to make a choice Id probably still lean Cooper's way for what he means to the offense but I can certainly be talked into letting them both walk if some other things took place like getting Quinn and a monster DT or Jamaal. The big question is does Gallup's performance make you feel better about the possibility of Cooper walking away and a WR being picked up in this deep draft at that position.

If you are going to make me choose between the two, Cooper and it isn't even close. You can find a random guy in the later rounds of the draft who can do what Byron does. He makes zero plays on the ball. No ball skills. Why would you pay money for that? I am not the biggest fan of paying Cooper big money, either but at least he shows up and and has an impact in some games, unlike Byron.
