Byron Jones or Amari Cooper?

Cooper with me.

- Amari is not elite and plays more to the level of a No.2 than a true legit featured No. 1, but he is still very essential to Dak’s improvement and productivity.
And it’s not a given guarantee that an early round WR will be a legit immediate impact lead No. 1 feature WR and because of those two factors I have to
lean more Cooper than Jones. But I do admit that I am lukewarm on Amari as I question his competitiveness and he doesn't appear as an alpha male lead dog.
He still hasn't' dispel any of the three knocks that was said to plague him pre-trade.
I use to laugh at Jon Gruden for trading him away to us. But i'm no longer laughing at that anymore.

- Byron Jones is a good player, a good CB – not a great one.
He does provides solid man coverage and so long as he is exclusively featured in press man coverage scheme as he lacks the awareness and knack for zone coverages
and does not appear comfortable at all off the line.
but he’s not elite CB and he will NEVER, EVER give us the turnover factor we so pitifully lack in this secondary, in this defense.
Never drives to INT the ball but more so knock it down. That impacts field position and game winning momentum.
He will never change the dynamics of the game the way Gilmore, Peters, Lattimore, Ramsey does.
And is the hip issue a thing of the past, or will this be a persistent ?

if the Cowboys could’ve re-signed Dak and Cooper, I could say place a 2nd round transition tag on Byron, and see what happens.
But if you make that kind of seal- the- deal with him long term, you’re gonna always be limited.

Easy call Cooper is a playmaker and Jones isn’t.

Pot meet kettle...

No **** the defense got them there, but you need a good defense in order to deplete it, which Dallas does not have. So instead of signing Cooper we let him go and now have to pick a WR with our 1st or 2nd rounder instead of using it on a defender that we desperately need, other than TE the offense is set for a few years after Cooper & Dak are signed. Which means you can pile all of your other draft picks/salary cap into the defense.

Our defense is good, it's just not great or elite. There are areas that need improved. Saying our defense is anything other than good is, again, lacking football knowledge.

And LOL why do we NEED to get a WR in the first or second? WR is far easier to replace than a DB. Who are you going to replace Jones with that doesn't have significant growing pains for a year or two? So our backfield will be Awuzie, Lewis, rookie DB, and one or two scrub safeties. Right, that's really taking a step forward.

Jones is worth 12-15 million. Cooper is not.

LOL I really hope this place gets what it wants. I really do. Gosh, I love watching the lowest common denominator fans get what they want and then cry about it for years once a unit goes to crap. This is hilarious.

This team deserves all the failure it gets. It fits right along the mindset of the fan base. HURR DURR COOP PLAYMAKER MAKE BIG PLAYS HURR

Wasted a first how? This is so unbelievably stupid. Dude has gone over 2,000 yards in a year and a half he's been here and he's played hurt.

....so his injuries only popped up during road games? Was he hurt in Oakland as well when he did the same?

If we could sign only one, which should it be? A week ago, I would have said Cooper, hands down. Now, I am not so sure. I have seen a few interviews with Cooper lately and what I see is a guy who says he wants to stay, but he lacks passion. I think the lack of passion shows up on the field. He seems to play with little or no emotion. He is a good receiver, but is he a fit in Dallas? He plays with his head down, if you know what I mean. He is not Michael Irvin, TO, or Dez in this regard. He makes plays but it never looks like he is giving 100%. He disappeared down the stretch when they really needed him.

Looking at the averages of other WRs in the league, I would be shocked if Cooper does not want at least $16 million per year. In 2018, Mike Evans of the Bucs signed for 5 years and $82 million, or $16.5 million/year. Julio Jones and Michael Thomas average $22 million and $19.5 million respectively. I think it will take at least what Evans got if not more to sign Cooper.

CBs average a little less. The top CBs salary is about $15 million/year. I am guessing Jones will be offered at least 5 yrs, $75 million. The question is, would you rather have Cooper for $17-18 million a year or Jones for $15 miillion - or neither?
If forced to make a choice, Coop.
I would like to see both retained and watch how they perform under MM's schemes. Same goes for most of the players.

He does need to improve on the road, but then again so does the trigger man on this team. His stats are equally bad on the road this year, especially against winning teams.

Again, he did it with both Oakland and Dallas. He's the problem.

The infatuation with a skill position on this board is astonishing. I mean, it really is.

Funny how you say our D is good and then go onto say the entire secondary besides Jones is trash. It's true, but if the difference between a good D and a bad D is Byron Jones, you don't have a good D.

Did you miss the season the starting WR's were Hurns, Gallup, & Beasley?

Cooper, Jones isnt even a option

Only way i say neither is if Dallas could trade Cooper for a top WR like OBJ or another RD1 pick. Ruggs, Jefferson, or Higgins would be my choice to replace Cooper.

This might make sense if the Cowboys had anything close to the defense the 49ers have, not to mention the coaching difference.

Which, therein lies an issue..

What is the Dallas Defense without their best DB?

I don't believe it's anywhere near as "easy" as some folks make it out to be.

Similar situation with other positions, are either players worth what Dallas "has" to pay for retention? Doubtful. Could they replace production with the money saved, by not retaining said player?

Good to great DBs don't grow on trees, and I believe the Defense would miss BJ far more than the offense would Cooper.

And, truthfully, I don't think it's even close.
