Part of the job of DT's is to keep the OL off the MLB. If they are allowed to get to the 2nd level, they outweigh LB's by as much as 75lbs and are running downhill, that's why they like run blocking. Martin and Yosemite have made some LB's look powerless too.
I don’t think power is the issue at all. He routinely blows guys up. Whenever he draws a bead on someone they go down. I think his issue continues to be between the ears. Like his crap technique on the field it looked like he was grabbing that bag high and being too vertical. Plus the guy is a goof ball. He has no dawg in him at all. All Hollywood and flash. Guys here keep saying he is not healthy. I don’t think there is anything wrong with him physically. It is all mental and desire to be a great LB.
I liked your post cause ur a good poster

To be fair, Heyward is a 295 lb defensive lineman whose job it is to push against heavy offensive lineman all day long. Jaylon's job is to make contact and shed the block, not drive the blocker backwards.

That being said, he needs to be better next year. His problem is patience, he sees the flow and attacks, but when the play is a counter his attacking takes him out of the play. He needs to be patient, shed blocks, then attack.
Basically play smart! A smart football player should learn that in High School or earlier.

Totally agree my friend...but, one bag? lol Even if it's an exhibition wouldn't you care about giving effort?

I would, why do anything in life in you don't care about putting effort into it? Maybe I'm from a different generation, but man, effort means everything to me.

Maybe that's why I give Heath a break on most things. I know he's not a starter but you cannot deny his effort is there, even if it involves running the wrong way. :)
That’s what I’m saying. Not even one bag? Comeon man. It’s ok if the other guys beat you but you can’t move one? There’s a problem there

maybe the guy who set up that challenge was an AFC fan, and he greased the wheels on one side and the others are not, or they were manufactured smoother on one side than the other. Jaylon can pick that bag up and sprint with it. I would say manufacturing or physics issue there, not strength

Even linebackers have to “drive” through tackles. You work your legs to be able to hold up at the point of attack, you work legs when tackling and driving through people.

Linebackers are supposed to have strong powerful legs to say they dont is ridiculous.

So D-LineMen are like 5x stronger than linebackers? Nah. Stronger and heavier yes....but that what light years stronger

Yes. The greatest MLB is not going to move a blocking Sled as well as a camp body 300 pound DT.

Power in football is not just weight room strength. Body Mass is a big factor also.

Randy White in his prime vs Erik Williams in his prime and Randy would lose that drill despite Randy having better weight room numbers (Randy 6-4, 260. EW 6-6, 330).

Not that anybody would care to but if you go back and read some of the threads before the draft selection of Smith, you will see that there are some on this board who tried to tell everybody this. Smith does not stack and shed. He is a run and chase OLB. He was that at ND and he's that now IMO. There is nothing wrong with that but you can't have a team full of those kinds of LBs and DTs who do nothing but try and penetrate because then, it's all to easy for opposing OLs to just go after the second level. It opens up huge holes for the opposition. I mean, lots of folks tried to explain this.

Jaylon was no where close to being one of the best at his position. Hope like crazy he turns it around!

Last season, Jaylon Smith was one of the worst LBers I have ever seen in my life. He was a snap by snap failure.

The fact he in Hawaii is probably the league and media trolling the Cowboys and making sure he keeps his place in the Cowboys hierarchy.

Honestly, he should be considered an ***-hair from outright release.

I remember watching training camp video when Jaylon first came back and he was DESTROYING the sled in drills. Smith and Lee both were. So blame effort or heart, maybe. Blame strength, no way in hell.

Not gonna use some skills challenge to determine how good or bad someone is.
Yeah, the combine is so dumb. I don’t even know why scouts and GM’s pay so much attention to such stupid skill challenges

I mean who cares if an O lineman can only bench press 225 five times, that should have no impact on where he’s drafted (even though he wouldn’t be). Cone challenges, QB’s throwing to receivers, 40 yard dash...all garbage.
