Staubach.

He didn't get a chance to start until like age 27.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1971/passing.htm

In 1971, he lead the league in passing rating. He had a 105. The next closest was Griese with a 90. To put that in perspective, that would be like a QB with a 130 today and his next closest competitor at 110 or so.

If I could put a 22 year old heismann winning Staubach on this Cowboys team . . . . ugh.

Based off what? Dude played in the 60s, it's almost impossible to compare the two eras.
That man had grit. As the team plane was in trouble one night and they thought it was going down he told the team as he held his whiskey "Well it's been fun Boys"

I like Meredith, but like I said, it's really hard to judge who would and wouldn't be able to play in certain eras. The game is just so vastly different, you can compare peers and how well they played next to them, but even that's not reliable.

I think the best measurement is always athleticism, I could see Staubach being like Aaron Rodgers in today's league. His 71 season, I believe, is ranked within the top 10 all-time.

I'm taking Staubach. A lot more mobility than anyone other than Romo.

The reason I'm not taking Aikman is because he was like an expensive sports car - he played great only when every single component (O-line, receivers, running game) etc. was in proper condition. Without those things, he couldn't even get Dallas beyond the wild card round.

Staubach. Is this a serious question. Only reason he doesn't have 5 rings is Landry stuck with Morton vs the Colts, and he went up against the Steelers twice one the all time great teams.

Tony Banks....or since he never made it out of camp does he not count....

Seriously though Troy. He was a lot more of a scrambler when he was in college. It’s tragic what that rookie season did to him.

Meredith had the same athleticism and a cannon arm.

You're holding the first overall pick in this draft and you have an opportunity to draft any Cowboys QB from current and past Cowboys' history. Who's draft card are you submitting?

I'm taking Staubach.

For today's game Troy and very tight 2nd Rodger then Merideth, Romo, White, Morton, Hogeboom, any other QB that started for us is for the Garbage bin....

Fans seems to forget that the first couple of years in Troy’s career was a massive physical beat-down that started his concussion problems. Troy was playing behind guy that were bagging groceries earlier in the week. If he played in the NFL today, he would be on the same level as Brady, if not better. Troy sacrificed a lot for this team but his stats are not great by modern standards, so he doesn’t get the credit. Roger or Troy would have been even greater QBs playing against these modern party-cakes defenses.
