The title of the thread was which cowboys qb would you take with the number 1 pick?

I find it a bit difficult to compare eras and I didn’t get see Lebaron at all and little of Meredith so that aside

staubach , aikman. Bledsoe.vinny

there’s a reason why Romo went undrafted and Dak went in the 4th your basing it on their college body of work and not their pro

I seen white in the pros not in college . If your basing the selection on their pro body of work I’m taking

roger over everyone followed by Troy

interesting topic though

Totally forgot about Bledsoe and Vinny. Bledsoe should be high on the list.

Dallas has a great emotional crisis system in place....who knows. If we could have drafted him out of college and put the right people around him, it could have been a different narrative.

perhaps but I’m not sure I’d bet the farm on Dallas emotional crisis system over the years. It’s helped some and others no so much unless I missed a sarcasm in your statement

Romo. Staubach in certain years had to fight for playing time & was benched for Craig Morton for a time. I love Staubach.... but it pains me to say he was a little over rated. Aikman was only a good QB for 4 years. And in those 4 years had the best supporting cast of all time. Aikman was too much of a statute in the pocket. Incredibly over rated QB.

1. Romo
2. Staubach
3. Danny White
4. Aikman
5. Meredith???? do not know much about him.
6. Cunningham
7. Prescott
8. Bledsoe
( I cannot think of any other Dallas QB's that were decent. Kosar was past his prime when he played in Dallas.)

I would say Romo, but not if it's Romo straight out of Eastern Illinois lol.

Aikman, final answer.

Growing up I can recall watching games Dallas had no business coming back and winning..and mainly,it was Danny and his leadership. Onetime I think it was 1983, We were losing to the skins like 21-3 at half...but in the second half Danny singlehandedly caught fire and was deadly accurate and threw TD after td and we won. I recall a game at Houston where He nailed passes with pinpoint precision in the corner of the endzone to Cosby...NOT MANY could have made those throws. Atlanta playoff game in 1981 is another...MY GAWD the guy was crazy good. Balls of steel. Give me Danny all day long...He was right there on par with Troy. He just didn't have quite enough around him to get a ring..not his fault. He did his job.

Perhaps OP can clarify what he meant by drafting #1 and whether he meant out of college or polished from experience I took it as out of college

I met Danny White so I am partial lol..I talked with him in Arizona around 2004. He was HC of the Arizona rattlers and had just won the Title in the arena league. He was walking with Jake Plummer and Bill Walsh. I WAS STAR STRUCK! lol..But Danny was very gracious and approachable. A GOOD DUDE...very humble. One of my favorite Cowboys ever...He and Troy/ROGER May be the best trio of QB's that ever played for 1 NFL team in a relatively short time span.Think about it...we were very blessed to have several QB's that were championship caliber...because many NFL teams never find 1 guy LIKE that, let alone, several.

LOVE ROMO and what he did...but I would not have drafted him or wouldn't at 1. He was too much of a riverboat gambler...turned over the ball too much. Danny is my guy if all things were equal and we had a chance to draft him at 1, I would. OF COURSE ROGER falls into that too. Roger,Troy,Danny and Dandy Don should be on the Mount Rushmore in Dallas lore.

It’s kind of cool when that happens I never got that close to football player I did however end up being in the same strip club with Charles Barkley back in his 76er days
