I was in shock that he slid to the 4th. And even more shocked that we thought Charles Tapper was a better prospect.

Could not agree more. McClay knows jack shyte about DL and pass rushers.

Lmao.

The Bengals were 24th in y/a against the run last year (and tied for last against the pass). Their DTs must be exactly what we need

I thought I read at his draft time that he had issues with his knee. and some thought it'd be long term chronic too. That what caused him to fall in the draft.
I also thought I read during pre-draft workout that his weight room strength is off the chart. and he was already an impressive workout athlete.

But I'd like to know how he has performed since he's entered the league.
Has he clearly been one of the NFL best run stuffers period in the NFL.. or this just a guy still looking to find his status in that area ?

- I already had my sights and hopes on Ravens' 340 pounder Michael Pierce, who is known to be a top notch run stuffer (when like all 330+ fat guys, keeps his weight in check)
but i'm concerned that he may want too big a payday contract and out-price himself out of our market.

- I do agree that it would be a huge benefit if we can sign a top rated run stuffer and that can negate the need to draft one in the early rounds.

yeh, that's why I said that i'd like to know how he's individually faired and graded as a run stuffer since he's entered the NFL.
How durable has he's been ? how much did he help out his pro bowl sidekick Geno Atkins ?

And funny how the Bengals can have that kind of talent in the interior but still rank so low vs run.
But I admit that I dunno very much at all about their LBs, DC and scheme too.

The problem is definitely their LBs, more than the DL talent. Billings is a fine 1T.

But that's the same issue the Cowboys have. 1T is just not a position that matters in today's NFL.

The Bengals are always a train wreck.
Sometimes you can extract talent from a failed system and reinvent talent, and Im betting that Billings is exactly one of those talents in a bad scheme.
You can't blame a single player when the entire unit was bad, we cant say Lawrence sucks
just because the same thing occurred here.
For the right price, I don't understand why you wouldn't want to sign him.. do you have better
FAs, if so please name them?

The problems that exist in Cinci's run defense (namely poor LB play) exist in Dallas too.

The idea that ANY DT is going to come in and make any difference in the run game is flawed for that exact reason.

Your talking LB now, while I was commenting on adding potential talent to the DL position, I was trying to stay on course with the thread, but LB position of course needs help as well, but just adding one or the other does not fix both positions, so I don't see your point.
If you want to discuss total Defensive issues, than start a thread regarding total defensive talent needs, it will be a very long thread, guaranteed.

The one thing I'll say is maybe the runs weren't all right up the middle. The Cowboys got gashed up the middle often, if memory serves me correctly.

I'm not talking LB. I'm saying that addressing DT with a guy like Billings doesn't accomplish anything.

Is Billings a good player? Sure. Is he a player that changes a team? No. I agree that you can "extract talent," but there's nothing to suggest that you'd get more out of it in Dallas than Cinci.

Not really. They struggled mostly at RE and outside.

If you don't like Billings, fine, than at least give more of a reason than the fact that he played for the Bengals.
The entire coaching staff has been changed here in Dallas, so Im not understanding the distain?

You think run D is solely on the DT's? LMAO is appropriate.

Billings has not done much in the pro's. For all his strength maybe it's technique holding him back?
