I know a lot about that industry, and I've never understood this. What money? How do you make money off reporting a story 20 minutes before another reporter? I don't understand the financial component of that.

I go to who's generally correct before I go to who's first. Yes, I do understand that if you're on a story that nobody else is, there's value to that. THAT is what the journalism game is about.

However, reporting "first" on a story that is unfolding before everybody's eyes by the minute carries no value. Just get it right.
They poke and hope. If they're first and right about it, they milk it for all it's worth. If they're wrong, it never happened.

Didn't used to be that way. Reporters got fired for being wrong on important facts like that.

Now, they all do it, so almost nobody even remembers who the guilty party was. Entire broadcast news networks now do it 24/7, and don't care how much erroneous information they put out. They just run with everything as fact if it suits their agenda.

I think it was just one in particular...and I took someone's advice and put him on ignore. His track record, combined with this ill conceived vitriol makes me think a lot of people would be better off doing the same thing.
Do I even ask who it was?

This hit me hard. I have 3 daughters and 3 granddaughters. I can not fathom losing my spouse or anyone of my kids. I always tell the girls they can do and be anything they want to be and always referenced role models like Kobe's girls. As parents you want to protect your family from everything, that's our job, but sometimes the unexpected happens and were rendered helpless, that is what hurts the most.

I pray for the family now that they continue in their father and sisters path, living their lives with happiness, appreciation and humility just like their father would have wanted them to.

All of us need to remember how fleeting life is, we are promised nothing, we are all living on borrowed time. Be good, be kind and help your fellow man, simple things that we all can do.

I always found it weird that you look something up on the internet or talk about buying something then when you open facebook there will be a advertisement for what you looked up.
Yeah, you don't even have to be using your phone. I've had conversations with people about something, then I come on this site or any number of other sites, and there's an ad for that very thing.

Wow....did anyone see Madison Square Garden for Knick’s game? Light up whole place in royal purple and gold......greatest honor you can give from Madison Square Garden. I’m truly truly grateful and appreciative of the Knicks and their fans. Not something I’ll forget either....

As a Knick fan, I can actually be proud of the franchise for the first time in a while. They also had a nice display of his numbers and the Laker logo on the court.

They also did the 24 second violation as a tribute to start the game, although, for a minute, I wondered if it were a part of the regular Knick offense......

......attempt at levity.

It's so sad. I know he would have given every penny of his to have his daughter be alive. Having 4 kids of my own it's so terrible. Along with the other young girls on the helicopter as well. I think 2 parents were on there and their other 2 kids have no parents. Be blessed with what you have, there are always people out there in worse situations.

An absolute tragedy. While I wasn't the biggest Bryant fan as a basketball fan, I respected his laser like focus on winning and dominating on the court. Even though he left the world way too young, he had a very full life - top of his field on the court, four beautiful daughters, and exploring other arenas to further his interests. Where the tragedy falls is his daughter, her teammate, and the loved ones left behind. Thirteen years old? They didn't get a chance to REALLY experience life - it's shattering to think about.

It's made all the more worse by the reality that this was all preventable. From what is being reported, it doesn't appear that the crash was due to a mechanical failure with the aircraft. How horrible is it that this all could have been prevented?

RIP to one of the all time greats, and thoughts and prayers to his family, as well as all of the family members of the other victims in this horrible accident.

For Kobe:
