McCarthy is better than people giving him credit for

I wonder how much Jerry's wildcat/SPARQ draft strategy hurt Jason's career? Think about all the wasted picks. It was clear Jason needed more talent, but the cupboard was bare. MM can help the team just by drafting smarter.
I think Marinelli hurt Jason's career more than Jerry. The offense was good enough to a couple but the defense was never there.

I think Marinelli hurt Jason's career more than Jerry. The offense was good enough to a couple but the defense was never there.

What didn't help was that Rob Ryan wanted man coverage corners so they spent top money at the time for Carr and then gave up draft picks to select Claiborne. The following year they can Ryan, his 3-4 complex scheme and then bring in Kiffin who made his name with the tampa 2 zone coverage.

Then after that disastrous season they promote Rod, Kiffin's DL coach from TB, who had the same mindset as Kiffin. Bend and don't break defense, but still had 2 man corners, and Church and Wilcox as safeties and Scandrick who could play decent in either coverage. Not an ideal lineup, especially when the DL was slowly being transitioned to the 4-3.

Rod wasn't the answer, but they sort of screwed the pooch before he even arrived with their big 2012 offseason and then hiring coaches that ran more zone when their corners were more man 2 man guys.

Rod obviously did run man coverage here and there, but who knows how well he and his assistants were at getting the corners to be as effective as they could be. Especially with Mo, who, not to be mean, wasn't that bright and got snake bit a lot either by injury or poor early on play

Although we think alike, I'm not sure it's takes a rocket scientist to surmise that Garrett was an absolute under achieving horrible head coach. The only good quality that Garrett had was his kind personality. Even his intelligence was wasted because of his foolish pride. The whole time the guy was our head coach he was busy trying to prove he belonged and that he was the smartest guy in the room. He was the prime example of all talk no game.
He did know how to build a team from the trenches out. Didn't know what to do with them once they were here, but he knew who to get.

Yes, Garrett did have a hand in bringing in some good players, but at the end of the day I stand by what I said in terms of Garrett's biggest issue and that is pretended to be someone he is not. I don't think there is anyone better than Garrett and convincing people that he is the all knowing and the all powerful. The problem is, it's all smoke and mirrors and he has or never had any credentials that should of landed him a head coaching job, or keep one for as long as he did.

I completely agree with this statement! Garrett was in over his head since day 1
And yet he continued/chose to stay. Anyone in their right mind would have moved on. The man never seemed embarrassed, not even at the end when fans started to show their anger.

I think a lot of things were at play last year (not all of them on Garrett BTW) but hey, you gotta be able to do better with 10 years then we did and I'm sure Jason knows that. Sometimes you gotta change things up.

I think that McCarthy is a good Coach on record but then again, he Coached a team with Favre and Rodgers. I mean, you better be able to do well with the type of talent that GB had in those days.

I am not not a McCarthy fan, per say. I don't love WCO but hey, if he can make this thing work, then I'm sure I will be happy to see it.

The Stat saying he went to the playoffs in 9 of his 13 years there is not correct at all! 2 of those 13 Rodgers missed almost half the season

bottomline: When McCarthy has his qb upright, he made the playoffs 9 out of 11 times. That’s pretty darn good
and? we dont have an AAron Rogers or a Favre..lol we have a Bret hundley lol see what I did there..couldn't win with BH, cant win with dak..:muttley:

Everyone should be excited for the fresh start under McCarthy. Biggest coaching hire since Parcells and really the only other coach Jerry has hired with a proven track record. Free agency and the draft will be a lot more interesting and excited for what lies ahead.

If you think about it, the Garrett era was kind of like that long term relationship that you know will never work out, but keep investing time hoping for it to get better.

I'll be shocked if McCarthy does anything in the post season here.

There is reason to worry.

Some of the coaching hires are questionable.

I've been a huge critic of the Nolan hire. He has a terrible record as HC and DC. Stinks.

Firing Colombo for Philban was also odd. I get it. They are buddies.

Linguist replacing KR is a reach. But KR wants a DC/HC job.

Edwards gives up hope on the defense. He's an excellent coach. He should be the DC. Let Nolan go back to LBs.

Tomsula is excellent too.

Note: Don't believe me about Edwards and Nolan? Look up their coaching history.
