The Chiefs scored 7 straight touchdowns against the Texans and ran like 3 running plays. Reader is completely obsolete.
Fine. Then nobody should be building a defense designed to stop the run.

They scored 14 points. The offense didn't play well, it's not a barometer for anything.
Look how SF ran all over GB. I think they passed less than 10 times the entire game. If the need arises, you have to be able to stop the run.

But the point is that stopping the run doesn't matter if the team can throw it.

First 49ers drive - 3 straight runs and a 3 and out.
Second 49ers drive - 1st and 3rd play are passes of 15+ yards.

Any team can stop the run with numbers, it's just a matter of whether or not they also have to defend the pass. GB never adjusted to make SF throw it. It was a pathetic coaching effort.

That was my entire premise in this thread.
He is only 24, 6'1" and 330lbs, so his ceiling is high, especially if the price is right.
Billings will be targeted in FA, if not by the Cowboys, by other teams with eyes on potential
talent adds.
That's what you do in this league, you grab potential talent when you can when the price is right and cross your fingers that your coaching staff can right that ship... I find it rather amusing when fans pretend to know more than actual talent scouts.

I haven't read all the responces. I just remember tons of fans on here claiming how awesome the kid is but he hasn't done much. Cincy's had some talent but still after 4 years you'd think he'd had made a bigger impression on his coaches.

Finished 8th in ypa so that's a weird take.

And we also finished near the top in offense. All empty meaningless stuff we went 8-8. Nobody is prepping for game week saying omg we have to abandon the run they have Collins and Woods. Those dudes are average

The inferior player is always the best fit for Rod and his worthless scheme.
Marinelli is like a shade tree mechanic.

Give him your car, a couple of buck and the weekend.

A good deal when parts are sparse and time is not a factor.

His defenses have been around so long..
OC have to have a thick manual how to stop him.

Better coaching will change alot defensively.

Honestly I just hope the cowboys upgrade both dt spots this offseason, whether
Thru free agency or the draft or both.i agree with whoever mentioned Michael pierce as a possible signing.some people have a bizarre man crush on a woods
And other holdovers from the marinelli years. ROD HAS MOVED ON WITH HIS LIFE.
THE COWBOYS HAVE MOVED ON. SOME PEOPLE NEED TO MOVE ON With their lives

D.J. Reeder is better. More costly, but you get what you pay for.
I want a big run stuffer
But I don’t want to sacrifice pressure to get it
Reader gets pressure and stuffs the run
He’s not gonna get double digit sacks but he will get pressure
To me he’s a good fit

Billings could be a lower tier option.

I just hope that McCarthy has all kinds of pent up mess from when he got nothing done in GB in FA and he puts some pressure on Stephen Jones to quit being cheap.

We lost to the Rams in the playoffs last year because we couldn't stop the run.

Do you think before you type? I just said that if teams have the ability to run the ball consistently they should and you reply that teams then don't need to design defenses to stop the run. Please reread and then reply.

Just b/c you can't comprehend what I'm saying doesn't mean that I'm saying it incorrectly.

You don't need to design a defense built to stop the run if offenses aren't designed to run the ball. Having the ability and making it a priority are not hte same thing. And since no smart team is going to be designing a run-first offense in today's NFL, it is stupid to prioritize stopping the run on defense.

49ers are a run-first O.

So are TENN and BALT.

That means 1/2 of the championship game participants were run-first. As well as a super bowl team.

Do you realize when you've lost an argument?

Not to mention the three other teams in our division have pretty good running backs. Not sure how anyone can think a good, strong D against the run isn't a good thing.

SEA and MINNY also tend to run the ball effectively, and Houston often does.

Reader would vault our D into the next stratosphere.
Do we know if he's interested in leaving Houston or if they are thinking about letting him leave? I'd love a tackle like him on our D line!

No idea. I'd be shocked if they let him walk. Dude is so athletic they often play him at DE.
