Wouldnt be surprised if the plan is for Awuzie and Lewis to be the starters next year if we cant retain Jones. Even if we draft a guy high, we will probably sign a guy like Fuller to be a sub package guy, of we don't bring back Brown.

Not saying thats a great plan, but if they dont spend on Jones I dont see them spending more than sub package money on the position
Yea, I tend to agree with that.

I don't think Lewis is an outside corner, but in general, yea.

Its not a great set up, and CB will likely be at least somewhat of a weakness unless get high end production out of a rookie (which is asking alot). Its why I dont think we should just push Jones out. Id be fine witg tagging him

The rest of the secondary is unrestricted after next season; Awuzie, Lewis and X Woods. They are going to have to address this area with serious draft capital, not depth type of players. Fully understand the need along the DL, but they may have a bigger hole in the back-end, especially if Bryon signs elsewhere. I would love defensive line reinforcements early and often, but probably unrealistic to expect.
You have no choice but address CB in this draft, maybe twice
I’m still hoping for a stud DT at 17 but CB is a must to address on the top 3 rnds

Based on writeups from the week and game, Troy Pride from ND had a good week and could be moving up the boards. Not the biggest CB, at only 5-11.

No it isn't. Even if Byron AND Brown walk, you can sign a veteran outside CB and be fine.

In the past, when the team released Brandon Carr/Claiborne, they signed a veteran and use day 2 of the draft to rebuild the unit for the future. Are Awuzie/Lewis long-term answers at the position? Are they the type of corners MM and Nolan want? Nobody knows. We could see a defensive lineman and double dip at the position thereafter if the board played out that way.

Kinlaw will probably be long gone unless he has knee issues.

Maybe Derrick Brown could fall a little? I think he's a good player and controls the LOS well but I just don't see him having a huge impact. IMO he's not worth a top 10 pick in todays NFL.

Chaisson - I think the upside is huge with this player and he's one of my favorites if we draft someone in the front 7.

The most likely thing though is Byron leaves in FA and we draft one of these corners.

Which corners do you like?

I know the Ohio State guy is a lock for top 10.

I see the LSU corner is projected around our pick. He looks like a really good cover guy.

I really like Trevon Diggs. I just think it's good to have a corner at his size who can turn, run, and play the ball.

What's your thoughts on corners because it looks like that is the most likely option??

I personally do not like any of these DBs in the first round. If Dallas can't land a good DT at 17 I'm looking at offense after that. I hate DB in the first round. Not all the time, but most of the time. If one of these offensive lineman or WRs drop to 17 if Kinlaw isn't there, I'd take them in a heartbeat.

Need to fill holes w third contract types.

If the pass rush or safety play doesnt get better it doesnt matter who you have at corner.

I personally think it's a waste of good cap room or draft capital to invest highly in CBs the way the rules are, but the team doesnt ask me.

I think Bryon Jones stays...for at least one more year under the transition tag. Cooper as well can be franchise tagged.

Don't forget we can use both tags this year.

I honestly don't care which position they take in round 1, I am just hoping that this new hierarchy are firmly against drafting anybody that has personality or injury issues. I am done with that line of thinking that a draft pick should be a project that may turn into good value later. there is a draft EVERY year, no need for risky strategies.

If BJ walks we will need to get someone to develop.

It seems to be a fairly strong class so we should have some good options even outside the 1st if we don’t like what’s available there.

The other thing to note here............. the CB market in FA seems to be pretty decent. Jones and Harris seem to be the top names but there seems to be some decent options in FA if we let Jones walk but want to bring in a vet CB.

Harris who?

If you think going into the season with Awuzie, Lewis, and Brown as your top 3 corners is a good idea....you’re trippin’.

I’d add, I think there’s a really good chance someone offers Brown a decent contract to come in and try and be a starter.

If Jones walks, they have to bring in a veteran CB IMO and probably draft a kid in the first 3-4 rounds.

Just started watching CBs, but I'd be happy with Kristian Fulton at #17.

Watch him vs Bama. I know Bama doesn't throw a ton, but he's playing a bevy of future 1st round NFL WRs with a future NFL QB throwing them ball, and they can't get anything going on him. His press-man at times looks almost Byron-ish to me.

Because it is a high paid position past rookie deal it is not impossible that it happens. I'd rather it didnt though.
