Bryon isn't elite but he is expected to be paid like one. Strictly a press CB, who struggles in zone, considered a below average tackler and possesses zero ball skills/instincts. Unless you acquire a Ramsey or Peterson, I wouldn't pay top dollar at the position. If Byron leaves for the huge contract in FA, being a ex-1st rounder, starter for years and ex-All Pro, pro bowler, we get a likely 3rd round compensatory the following year,
but the bigger challenge will be actually replacing Byron as a starter, as he is a very solid man coverage starter (albeit not elite) and it's harder to successfully find
equally solid CB starters. It's not impossible but its hard task. We drafted two CB high in Awuzie and Lewis and they are ending up looking like average CBs. But that doesn't mean
we stop scouting and seeking out more CB candidates.
But yet we cannot be committed to dishing out elite type money long term to a guy that simply will never give us INTs, turnovers - which the better upper echelon CBs seems to be able to do.
In 2007, I saw a Giants Team loaded up front with pass rushers and a real banged up secondary with several castoffs. They dominated teams in the playoffs with their front. That's what we have to build here. Throw the money in the trenches.
