If it were my team I would get a 3 million dollar QB vet and build a dominant defense

Good reply. I totally agree with you about defense. That has really been Dallas' achilles heel for a very long time. Even when they rank well it seems that they fall apart in a critical game.

To that end, look at Tannehill. He wasn't well regarded going into Tennessee. Personally, I think that QB play is a lot the product of coaching, receivers and offensive line. There are a lot of guys that can throw the football if you give them time to do it and an open receiver. I'm completely OK with going out and getting a vet journeyman QB. Well, truthfully, I think that Cooper Rush sucks. Even if the Cowboys sign Dak, they should get a better back up. I would tag Dak and get a vet back up and then let MM sort it out.

Last note: Dallas has went from Staubach to White to Aikman to Romo to Dak. There were few years when the QB was absolute crap and some of those were caused by Aikman's cap hit. I really don't see it as impossible as people make it out to be. If you sort down the list of QB's currently in the NFL, most teams have competent quarterbacks.
I agree.

Your point about Cooper Rush is interesting.

His first year seemed solid.

Next year he looked slow and confused.

So whatever Linehan and Garrett was doing with the position. Dak took 60+ sacks that year and it was Rush's first sign of not being the backup we had hoped.

I would like a future QB at backup. Where is Paxton Lynch?

At one point I thought he was going to be drafted and Denver moved ahead of us and took him.

Could all the teams have really missed so bad on him.

Anybody know the details on him?

Ugh, we're in such desperate need of a decent backup RD. I really think Jerry is spoiled with Dak's tardiness as he was with Romo, until he went down. Then Jerry panicked by getting old has beens. Do I dare mention their names.

A $3MM vet minimum QB that ensures your offense would suck would completely counteract the dominant defense.

Rush was never even close to solid. He's a kid who knows where to throw but has a terrible arm and would get his lunch eaten in real NFL play. Solid means you can play in the NFL.

Dak will, and should be the QB next season by some means, whether franchise tagging or a contract. I would like to see what McCarthy can do with him.

However, one name I didn't see mentioned here was Nick Foles. If Gardner Minshew becomes the starter in Jacksonville, Foles might be available. And on the other hand, if they stick with Foles, Minshew could be available. IMO those two would be more to get excited about than anyone on that list, considering the age of Brady and Brees.
Holy Larry, tell me you're kidding.

How in the world do people still think Foles is good? That is absolutely phenomenally nuts. Dude has had 2 good games in 3 seasons.

Yeah, seriously. He would look like Joe Montana behind this O-Line. Worst case scenario we resign Dak and Amari Cooper and he is our vet backup...He should be healthy since he was not playing this year.
Because all it takes for a QB to look like Joe Montana is a good offensive line …

Well, maybe that, and to actually be Joe Montana throwing the best WR by far in the history of the NFL. But those are minor details.

Cooper Rush & Tom Brady in the same list ?

Imma take Cooper Rush , he is younger , has more potential, and Jason Garrett taught him how to be a QB ...

I was just saying that here in Dallas he would have more time to stand in the pocket than anywhere else he played. People forget he won the Heisman trophy as an accurate college QB. He had to run for his life at most of the stops along the way after getting drafted and in the places where there was decent pass blocking he put up good stats, when healthy.

I would love to have him for depth at QB, but I'm doubtful he would be as good in the starting role as Dak. I think he may be too expensive to be the backup though, but after sitting out a year, who knows?
