Yes, Garrett was my favorite puppet. And I didn’t have hope Jerry would ever hire outside that scope.

But we’ve been down this road before with Parcells with no better results. The verdict is still out. Jerry could still screw it up.

Parcells actually got a team to overperform based on the talent present. Garrett gets you exactly what your talent dictates, nothing more. Parcells' tenure was also pretty short compared to the 9 1/2 years Garrett got.

If he had that amount of time to build up a team, who knows what could have happened. Not an apples to apples comparison at all regardless.

We're at a point as a franchise where we cannot afford to pay an average QB elite money, it will doom us for 3-5 years.

Historically, I've been far more optimistic than pessimistic.

But now I see this team run on assumptions that just aren't true.

As they say, hope is not a strategy. And you can't hope players will become something they aren't. This franchise pretends too much.

Oh, I agree. This organization DOES pretend too much, and that’s primarily on Jerry. But hope springs eternal. It’s NOT a strategy for an organization, but it IS a healthy frame of mind for a fan.

We have a core of above average players. Now, it appears we have an above average core of coaches. Now IF we have a good draft to fill in SOME of the cracks, and IF we can stay relatively healthy, we could build on that 8-8.

Ok...the scheme does blow. The soft zone was maddening under Rod.

What this team needs is a pass rush up the GUT. Good things will typically happen for the secondary. That was the only way teams beat Brady in his prime.

And it’s too bad they didn’t get Adams. I get the asking price was silly. Let’s hope this FO finally drafts a difference maker back there.

If they can get a consistent pass rush through the middle........we'll see a much improved unit.

I beg to differ.

This season had Super Bowl aspirations. Did they not? Everybody was calling this a real championship contender. It smelled funny to me, but I went along.

Then, this polished team lost to the Jets. It lost to Trubisky. It lost to Bridgewater. It got torched by Josh Allen on turkey day. It couldn't score a measly touchdown in three games. It got trounced at home by Green Bay and laid an egg against the Eagles to win the worst division in the NFL.

It fell part after a 3-0 start.

This was really bad considering the expectations.

Every year Cowboys fans think it's the year they will finally go to the Super Bowl. Here's a couple of things you didn't mention. The old saying any team can beat any other team and there are multiple upsets EVERY season in the NFL so to continue to use the jets game is nothing more than proving that you're not the Cowboys fan you want everyone to think you are. There is also players who have the best games of their careers EVERY season and Trubvisky is one of them this last season. Couple that with a fairly good defense and another old say **** happens. But the Bridgewater whine is the funniest. Bridgewater won ALL FIVE games he started for Brees which also includes a win against the sea hawks too.

Should the Cowboys have won a couple more games, most thinks so. Are most Cowboys fans disappointed after this season, most think so. Do most of the Cowboys fans exaggerate this being one of the worst seasons ever, don't think so. Now if there was such a feeling that the Cowboys were such real Super Bowl contenders before the season they wouldn't have had 42 to 1 odds to win it. There were a lot of national sports people that said if things go right all season for the Cowboys and they get all of the bounces go their way they could get there but everyone know that things don't go perfect all season. They were politely saying they have a chance but don't think it will happen.

Brand new coaches. Now's probably a good time to change course with this roster, too.

It's ugly around here right now.

Cooper looks like a bad signing waiting to happen. Some teams are going to overpay for Byron Jones and Anthony Brown. Zeke looks noticeably slower and aging fast. Jaylon's contract was a woeful mistake. Quinn is probably gone. LVE looks like he's not long for the football world. Byron and Zack have back issues, which seldom get better. Frederick is still recovering from something only Vulcan's can pronounce. Dak isn't worth more than $25 million per year, if that. Safety and defensive tackle are still gaping holes. Tight end remains a big question. We don't even have a reliable punter and kicker.

Now, enter Jerry's band of re-tread coaches. Now at 20 and counting. Are we going to hire a left guard coach next? Do any of them know magic?

Next year smells bad. Like 7-9 bad. Even worse, the roster looks to be regressing and aging rapidly. The window may have already closed on this bunch.

So what now? Scheme can't fix this as much as some want. It's highly unlikely that there's a bag of plays and coverages that will fix what we witnessed last year. This team needs players, different ones, and a lot of them.

Or, somehow this franchise needs to start stockpiling picks and devise a way to build the next contender. You have to be aggressive because these days, rebuilds are three-year projects, not five. Free agency won't allow anything longer.

Yet, the Cowboys keep trying to play the middle. Not aggressive in free agency, and not aggressive in rebuilding. Just treading water.

There is no easy answer here. The Cowboys are between the rock and the proverbial hard place. Do they suffer the PR hit of deconstruction, or do they press on and dump untold millions on the likes of Dak, Cooper, Jones, Quinn, and the very necessary other free agents to make this work? They should choose the former, though they'll likely choose the latter. Jerry's days are dwindling.

We just witnessed perhaps the ugliest season in Cowboys history. Subtract the Rams game, and what exactly happened? They lost the most winnable NFC East in history. They basically blew bunny layups all year long after a 3-0 start.

It ain't good.
Spot on. Lots of disappointed fans next year.

I still think there is plenty to work with.

  • An offense that can move the ball;
  • A good o-line and running back pair;
  • A good WR pair and solid QB;
  • A good pass rusher;
  • A good LB duo; and
  • A chunk of money to spend in FA
I think there's likely to be some teething issues this season but I do expect us to compete in the playoffs the next 2-3 years.

I am far from Mr. Sunshine.

But I expect that we will see a team that is coached.

Garrett? C'mon.

I think Dallas will be good next year. Not contenders but a good team. Around 10-11 wins

This is quite the cringey overreaction thread, in my opinion.

The coaching staff that was previously in place put the entire team at an extreme handicap. We had the world's most stubborn Head Coach paired up with the world's most stubborn DC, which is a marriage of failure. We produced the NFL's best offense while also having the worst average starting field position. These guys can move the football and the OL just had their best season since 2016. Make adjustments to some situational/red-zone play calling and these guys will be balling. McCarthy saw that, which is why Nussmeier and Moore were retained.

The defense? I don't know we'll see. Talk to me after April.

The biggest change I see so far is that this group is far more open-minded and doesn't appear to be trying to force concepts and schemes on players. They seem to be saying all the right things us fans want to hear, and I'm happy with that at this point. I think the biggest challenge ahead of them is managing the egos that currently exist on this team that have been coddled and enabled for the past 10 years. Furthermore, will our owner and GM allow these coaches to hold them accountable?[/QUOTE

Beg all you want it won't change the fact there is a huge difference between "ugliest season in Cowboy history" and "really bad" no matter the expectations.

We all know how bad the last 25 have been since SB30. It's pretty easy to say however that last year wasn't the ugliest season in just those 25 years. It definitely wasn't the ugliest in the Cowboys 60 year history.

We were pretty much healthy the entire year with an easy schedule and we finished 8-8.

this is not a good team... next season if anything goes sideways we’re talking maybe 6 wins. I predicted 8-9 wins with all things considered.

Meh, I said 9-7 before the season. Funny thing is that would've probably got us in the playoffs. Every year the "super bowl" predictions come - this year will be no different - but I'm not convinced that Jerry & Son have this super team that only Garrett was holding back. I'll believe that when I see it.

And yet coming off 8-8, we've already got Super Bowl threads, and anyone who doesn't agree is a Debbie Downer. Enjoy your Kool Aid, boys. I'll believe it when I see it.
