Exactly what I hope happens. We can rebuild our corner group in 2 off seasons pretty smoothly if we tag BJ
Seems like the safest plan
If jones walks we have to go CB early
We need safety and CB but don’t want to have to draft for need
If jones walks the CB we draft will be playing 70% of snaps or more which forces you to look early
With BJ, Lewis and Chido we can still take best player early

Byron hasn’t had an INT in the last two seasons and some here are willing to let Cooper walk for him. Yuck.

Our two best defensive games this year we’re the first eagle game and the rams game. Both games against good offensive teams (eagles were at the time) . We sent pressure fro everywhere.... 5 turnovers caused in two games.

then against the likes of Mitch trubitsky..... josh Allen and Sam darnauld.... all decent qbs... some with bad olines we sat back and let them pick us apart?

part of what our problem was stubbornness.... marinelli and Richard tried to turn this defense into the bears and Seahawks respectively. In my opinion we should have been a man cover/pressure defense.

Problem is the inability of the coaches to adjust to personnel. Trying to force a scheme on players that may have not fit

Byron will probably go to philly and start getting ints

And this is just more talk. When december and January come well see how much Nolan is talking. Lets not confuse him with Wade Phillips

Right. I also think they don’t let Byron AND Anthony Brown go because that’s just too much of a glaring need going, unless they have FA options in mind (would love Aqib Talib, he’s from Dallas and has publicly stated he would want to play here).

Browns injury is a blessing in disguise for his value, we could possibly get him at an affordable prove it deal. Gives us time to invest in a corner and allows him to rebuild his value. It’s a win-win

I could see them signing brown or tagging jones
I don’t think they will sign jones long term but who knows
I didn’t expect them to sign L Collins and they did

The Jones decision is a tough one, but a necessary one. It's funny how quickly the cornerback position went from a perceived strength to a huge question mark.

Take away two of the top four players, including the clear No. 1, and that's what happens.

That and the fact that none of them took that next step forward under Richard that we all though they would. They either stayed the same or got worse.

I expect that they will pay Robert Quinn to keep their top two pass rusher intact.

And by doing so, they will have made the tough decision top let Byron Jones go.

At that point, it leaves the team with Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis as their two prospective starters for 2020. That's not ideal.

Then they either have to use a premium (first 3 rounds) draft pick, free agency, or both to rebuild the position.

Based on his last few years with the Packs, Mike has a thing for DBs and interceptions. It would not surprise me at all to see THREE new starters in the secondary by game one with Woods the only starters starting from 2019. Yes, I'm saying we could have TWO new corners and one new safety.

I watched the interview too. And it struck me that he's looking for the opposite of what Byron is. I think you should worry.

His quote from Aikman echoes exactly what I've said about not re-signing Jones. Quarterbacks aren't afraid of corners who do nothing more that cause incompletions. They're afraid of the guys that can actually take the ball away. Let another team mistakenly pay $15 million a year for a non playmaker.
While that's true, why is it then that QBs don't throw towards Jones very often. They pick on Brown and Awuzie.

I'm not sure about that, but that's coming strictly from an availability perspective. I don't know if there will be enough available options for the team to replace 3 out of 4 defensive backs.

Given his experience with his new position coach, I could see Donovan Wilson winning the SS spot, but I'm not sure if they will have the resources to start two entirely new cornerbacks in 2020.

It starts by teaching DBs to turn their heads and look for the ball. So many times had the corners just turned and looked it would have been picked off...... assuming they catch it.

Point of least resistance. They're able to complete even more passes against the other two, with the same little fear of interceptions.

And neither Brown nor Awuzie will be looking to make $12 - $15 million a year in free agency.

Awuzie and Lewis are under contract so I don't see them getting demoted, traded or benched. Possibly they replace Jones and we have 1 new starter at corner but not 2. Personally I think Jones is resigned as he locks down his side in coverage even without the picks.

Jones is most always in perfect coverage, they don't throw his way because of his coverage. Picks are the only thing people bash him for and that can be fixed just by turning his head.

Have we not been "striving" for turnovers?
All we've been told for years is that they have been.

Have to hope they finally get it figured out or the Cowboys will be getting another new defensive staff in a couple of years.

I disagree. I think someone else will offer Jones over $10 million a year and the Cowboys will let them.

Sorry, it's not getting 'fixed' at this point in his career. The guy is allergic to the football.

2 interceptions in 73 games. One from an end of the half Hail Mary against Tampa Bay and the other off of a pass that Sean Lee tipped. That's pathetic.
