Should we remain with Jarwin or get a new featured TE

Here's an in depth look at this year's 2020 veteran TE class in Free Agency.

-it doesn't look that appealing and promising - aside from ATL's Austin Hooper, imo.
-Hunter Henry is brittle. Cant and hasn't stay healthy since he's entered NFL.
-what happened to Eric Ebron that he totally seemed to fall off the map this past year ?
-and Jared Cook is now one of those old timers that Stephen does not believe in pursuing and investing in.
Ebron got hurt

It’s hilarious to me that people opine that Jarwin is “decent....nothing special” and then treat what Witten gave us was something special.

Jarwin is a playmaker.

I like the idea of bringing in another TE ala what the Eagles have going with Ertz and Goedert. Make no mistake thought, Jarwin should definitely be getting more playing time.

It doesn't seem right for this team with its great history of TEs to not have a great one.

We don't have the cap space to get anyone any better as far as I'm concerned. Still think Jarwin might be really good. And we don't really know what we have in Schulz. The TE by committee wasn't a complete disaster if guys could just stay healthy from what I remember. Swaim wasn't my favorite, but we let him go. Jarwin looked a lot more athletic and made some plays this year even.

Past tight end players seemed to be well utilized and work terrific under McCarthy in GB, such as Jared Cook, Jimmy Graham. So that tells that the TE will indeed play a big significant in this offense.

And very strongly assuming this is the end of the road for the GOAT Jason Witten and we can finally get that speed and big play ability that affects the entire field, is there anyone that are sold on holdover TE Blake Jarwin as the starting featured TE here ?

Or should we strongly consider that new featured TE in this upcoming draft ?
Not sure if there's anyone that is worth investing in FA market at the TE position.
I’d like both.

I’m ready to move on from Witten but I think when that happens, TE needs to be toward the top of our priorities on the offensive side of the ball. Jarwin has certainly shown enough that he should play a much bigger role next year but you need more than one

Jarwin is better than he's given credit for by 80% of the blind Witten idolaters.

I do wonder when the coaches and scouts sit down and evaluate the TE position, if they make it a priority to where they think Jarwin is more of No.2 complimentary TE than a featured one.

Before Witten's unexpected return from ESPN retirement, Stephen had made a comment about looking at TEs in the draft even though Jarwin had a strong ending in '18. (ala Giants game)
Under the Garrett regime, I just don't think they were sold on him as a featured TE, even though it seems they like the athleticism he brings.
Maybe its still the in-blocking prowess, (or lack of ?) maybe they think he's more of a buffed up H-back than TE.

Who knows how McCarthy & crew will see Jarwin vs the last coaching staff. But coming from a coach that placed emphasis on TEs such as Jared Cook, Jermichael Finley and Jimmy Graham,
I would bet that the Cowboys will look at the featured TE in the draft.

But as someone previously post, ..if that particular well regarded TE is there for the taking within the first 3 rounds, according to the value our draft board, you have to take him, even among
the well documented dire defensive needs.

and ironically I continue to think about what this offense would be if Dallas Goedert (perfect name for the Cowboys! ) were our featured TE, ..and if there were any truth to the rumor that we were
prompt to take him in the 2nd round before the Eagles traded up ahead of us to nab him. Thus leading us to draft Conner Williams instead.

Eagles probably the closest team to the Pats TE past dynamic duo of Gronk/Hernadez that heavily utilize 2 TE pass offense.
And if you look into draft history, trend and the better TEs, it all points to us having to draft a TE within the first 3 rounds if we really want that sure impact featured TE.
Guys like Niners TE George Little who wasn't even drafted are a super rare gem finds

Agree 100%......not sure what more he can do. Sure he's not the blocking TE you'd like but neither is 80% of NFL starting TEs. Remember Martellius Bennett saying he couldn't block worth a crap his first couple years in the league but it quickly became apparent to him playing behind Witten, that's the only way he was going to get on the field. So it's something focus and worked on. My point, I'm sure Jarwin can become a much better blocking TE coach him up. Just me, but he has the potential to be right there with the top 10 TEs in the league ( speed, huge hands, wide catch range, leaping ability). Just think this may be one of those cases where we could very have the best guy if we work with him and give him a chance.

Why can't we keep Jarwin and get new TE talent? There is room for both on this team. The role of "featured TE" should be earned in training camp, not assigned in the offseason. That should be the case for every position on this team.
I think you can but you can’t use a premium pick on a TE with the major holes we have on defense
We have 2 TE so we will have to add a 3rd for sure
We we have about the same number of DT and CB and you use more of them

You can get younger and better at the position, frankly we wasted Jarwin by not using him more and while he is decent he isn’t great.
Jarwin is only 25 and there aren't 10 better receiving TEs in the game.

Agree he's been wasted in how he's been used, but you aren't going to get much younger and better without allocating a ton of resources.
