Ahhh....the wound that never healed. I still never have watched that game again. Don’t think I ever will either. Without a doubt my #1 most crushing moment as a kid. Sorry no like for your post...it’s not something I like though. Loooool

I absolutely cringe when watching old highlights that bring up "The Catch" , shut it off every time just a heart breaker.

I try and avoid that game and the 94 championship game...both hurt too much....the Catch game more because we were so close to having Danny get to a SB .
I can watch the ‘94 game...showed character and what a true championship team they were. Aikman making that pass falling down and Emmitt firing up his team on his TD. But like you..can’t watch the other. Danny White...good player who never really got credit much for being so,and took a real unfair beating from fans and media because he wasn’t “Roger”. He’s alright in my book though.

The niners had to go 83 yards also against still a D with Too tall Jones, randy white , that hurt equally .

Then the horse color tackle on Pearson when he looked like he would minimally get in winning FG range.

All ended with the sack fumble

Given how awful our DBs have been at INTs, why haven't they hired Walls as an assistant coach?

When The Hoodie says in talking about Walls' ball-hawking abilities "he was able to pull that off better than any player I've ever coached", that's a big fat endorsement.

i noticed most ex- great players don't want to coach at the NFL level, and i've heard players guests say a number of players play better than what they would be as coaches. Its a reason why you don't see that many 'great" ex-players turn NFL coaches.

Maybe in a limited advisor role in camps, but just not very many ex-great players turn coaches.

I re-watched that game last week on Youtube. There's a lot to say.

1) More than the other 2 Championship games in that streak, it was a game the Cowboys lost but should have won. SF turned the ball over six times, for one thing.
2) Why did the Cowboys try to throw on that last play? They had time outs and probably could have run it twice to set up the field goal.
3) Walls really was terrific, with two interceptions on that
4) Tony Dorsett got a lot of tough yards (91 yards total) but SF prevented him from hitting a home run.
5) I'm less of a fan of Danny White. He really seems like a bus driver, although he can really throw it on the occasions that he got his feet set. But he had happy feet for a lot of the first half.

funny how we never return to the NFC title game and just flat got worse,..and at the beginning of the end was the regrettable Gary Hogeboom era.
then on to the Steve Pelluer, Kevin Sweeney, etc. etc.

Players got old, hurt often and useless in a hurry ..and worst was our drafting under Gil Brant at that time and era was outright awful ...

but as far as that game - Montana played surgery on our defense. the muddy playing field was atrocious, and Landry got out-coached - especially on the last killer drive - when the Cowboys subbed in the nickel defense, Walsh ran the ball up the gut on us ...when we placed our regular base defense, montana took advantage of it ...

Walls just got spun by Dwight Clark and a heckuva throw and catch to break our hearts ... !! UGugh !

The play that really hurts me isn't the Catch, it's that horse tackle of Pearson who could gone the distance on the next drive.

Yeah, Cowboys went to and lost 3 in a row. At Philly, at 49ers, at Commanders. Oddly enough, Dallas was favored in all 3. I think the Cowboys have to be the team with the most playoff losses as the favorite. I forgot the exact number, but I'm guessing 9? Does any team have more?

The key there is in your post, all 3 were road games, had they had a better record those games would have been in dallas, and turned out to be wins.
When Jimmy won the 2 sb's in a row he preached top seed, so they got the bye, 1 less game to play, and play all games at home.
The SF game , walsh was the better HC, and Montana was the better QB, he was hard to stop.

I think Dallas would have won at home as well.

Don't forget, the first of those two super bowls by Jimmy Dallas won on the road in the NFC championship game. I wasn't confident we'd win, but they did. Those were two evenly matched teams. Any advantage the 49ers had for being home was negated by turnovers. Dallas made fewer mistakes.
