this team has not had a ball hawk safety since the maybe dennis thruman who played in the eighties. the early nineties the safety play was good at getting interceptions but since then nothing.
I’m thinking Woodson. It was the last safety we had

Some of the problem was scheme but it really is a mentality
Sometimes you have to gamble and Rod didn’t like gambling

Idk, we seem to drop a lot of easy picks. It's hard not to wonder if we just don't value DBs who can catch enough.

Then again, we did seem to ruin Claiborne who was a monster ballhawk at LSU.

Yea, I think pretty much all secondary coaches on the planet wants ballhawks at safety.

I’m willing to bet Al Harris wants a shutdown corner. Hopefully he will share this desire to a reporter so we can confirm it.
Richard, Rod, all these guys talk. Even on other teams. It doesnt matter

That’s the first word that came out of the mouth of new Cowboys secondary coach Maurice Linguist when asked what he wants in a safety.

Well, that’s a novel approach. A player who can make a play on the ball and take it away from the opposing team and not allow them to score while giving your own team the ball and a chance to score? I’m intrigued and wish someone on this board would’ve thought that up by now.

Wow, my mind is blown.

This coach obviously has no idea what he’s talking about

‘coaches’ on CZ have already told us that our safeties are fine and it’s not an important position on defense anyway

....of course, every team would love one. But they are rare as a gem. Reed, Polamalu and Woodson come to mind.

Nice to know someone at least has an ideal for it.

Are we to believe "ballhawks" were not wanted before? This kind of talk is empty and tiresome. Action, not words are what matters as this coaching transition occurs. It's reminiscent off politicians making campaign promises, only these guys have already been hired for the job. Rather than talking about doing your job, do your job. Show me, don't tell me!!!!!

I think the Cowboys will look to draft Kinlaw if there but Delpit looks to be the pick. While folks talk about his tackling in a year he was injured, he does have tape however being a very solid tackler his sophomore year.

Byron jones had 8 ints in college
In the nfl he’s had 2, both on tipped passes
I have to wonder if a big part is not the scheme or coaching

He wants them, now it's up to Jerry and company to go get em. Stop by-passing quality safeties.
