Jaylon seems to have a lack of self-awareness to me.

He is always talking about being elite but doesn't seem to recognize that he isn't that and hasn't been in the NFL.
Not elite?

You did hear in his introduction he was ranked 6th in the NFL in tackles?

Let's see..32 teams..each having 2-3 Lbers on defense..

that's b/w 64 and 96 LBers in the NFL.

Smith ranks 6?

Not elite?

Want to try again?

This is a very interesting era in regard to folks being able to earn millions on social media by simply posting product endorsements to their followers. If Jerry and son were smart (and they aren't), they would leverage this personal branding aspect in contract negotiations. A players personal brand is worth way more in Dallas b/c they have more eyes on them.........more people watching them........more people listening when they talk...........all of this leads to more social media followers which creates huge endorsement opportunities for them..............opportunities created from the exposure they can only get as a Dallas Cowboy.

So, why can't Jerry say to a guy like Jaylon Smith " sign with us for less money and you will more than make up for it with the exposure you will get as a Dallas Cowboy. Your brand will be worth way more here than anywhere else". Then Jaylon and his agent can go do the math and see that he's got way more avenues of making money as a Dallas Cowboy than he would in just about any other NFL city. If Jaylon signs with Tampa, for example, nobody would pay any attention b/c there's no national media exposure and his brand would be near worthless.

There is no doubt in my mind Jerry and co. has been pitching something like this for years. Even before social media. I’m sure when he does make this pitch it goes into the players left ears and out the right. As it should right? I mean think about it. If your Drew Rosenhaus (who I’m sure is very much aware of the media coverage the Cowboys receive), your goal is to negotiate the biggest contract for your client as possible. Do you really see Drew Rosenhaus telling Terrell Owens to to take less money with Cowboys so he could reap the endorsements? Why do that when you can get the biggest contract you can AND reap the endorsements? More money right? That’s what agents are for.

Do you think he played well this season?
Hey..

He was hot and cold.

I think like Dak plays better with Zeke..

I think Jaylon plays better with Wolf Wolf Hunter.

Both play off each other very well.

When Wolf Hunter came up hurt..

Jaylon got isolated.

Typical of his play was the 2nd game against Philly. When Philly drove down for their 1st TD..

Jason played stout in the endzone making tackles and deflecting a TD pass for an incompletion.

I was cheering and happy then Wentz came right back at Jaylon and it was a TD.

They were smart to repeatedly attack him.

Too bad.

LOL..........WOW!!

That was the most damning answer about Garrett I have ever heard. "He was consistent if we won or lost and he would clap, clap, clap"?

ahahahahaha!!!!

He basically made it obvious that Garrett did NOTHING. "change is good"!!!

But I'll tell you what...............Jaylon looks like a switch hitter to me. Probably NOT the guy you want leading your defense emotionally.

Reality will dictate jaylon's future. If he is to successfully promote his brand, it will be contingent upon his play on the football field. If he plays well, his brand will succeed. If not it will fail. It's all up to jaylon and how seriously he takes football. And given that jerry is his landlord, he needs to take it seriously.

This clear eye view thing. Does everyone just ignore that it’s just ripped from Friday Night Lights? Or is there some other football significance that it came from prior?

Ever hear of this little organization called the NFLPA? No, just no

Nothing insightful. Lots of glamour. Zero self deprecation. A few excuses. Zero accountability.

I can’t believe it. I loved the guy at ND. I loved his story of redemption and getting healthy.

He is now my least favorite player on the team. The guy is a fraud. Zero dog in him and he is a LB.
And our "Team Captain" and supposed to be our leader.

Wish they had asked him about the leg. Looked gimpy all year, worse as the season went on, and was stonewalled by a heavy bag at the Pro Bowl.

"We gotta execute better" is the no duh of the year. I don't know if that's his media evasion, or he if believes that meant something. I have to hope for the former, because "execute harder" isn't a diagnosis or a treatment plan.

I assume Jerry has made that pitch for years. Jerry knows about squeezing dollars out of eyeballs. I think Stephen even alluded to the extra benefits of being a Cowboy, and expecting that to be factored into contract negotiations.

They should *avoid* players who can't do the math on that. The argument is totally legitimate, and if a player pulls the "I want the market price regardless of the benefits of being a Cowboy", we should let them walk.

They do talk about this with players. Jones has done this in the media when talking about dak.

Jaylon signed a very team friendly deal. Compared to a guy who also signed this yr on a yr shorter deal, shaq thomson. He signed for 4 yrs 54mil, Jaylon signed 6 yrs 68.

The difference is the structure Thompson is making 7mil and 14 mil over the next 2 yrs and 15 in the 3rd yr, Jaylon is making 7mil and 9mil in the next 2 yrs and can be released after the 2nd yr if hes not producing, but even if he does he's still only making 11 in that 3rd yr.

This is what i talk about when i say people need to get their minds off that overall number in a contract and look at how its structured. Dallas is killing it with these new deals. Dallas could literally get rid of Elliot, Lawrence and Smith after the 2022 season and save 36mil on the cap.
