Even Prime would get scorched by Hayes

Don’t kid yourself! That’s easy to say. Hayes had great speed but there’s a list of wide receivers who were better. There’s more to playing the position than just speed especially in today’s game.

Irvin. Not only was he an excellent receiver but he was a human spark plug. We definitely could use another one...

Drew Pearson was my favorite Cowboys receiver but in today’s game I would have to go with Michael Irvin. He was a bigger more physical receiver and put up huge numbers despite the Cowboys offense revolving around Emmitt and the running game. Very surprised how many are picking Bob Hayes who only had two 1000 yard seasons in his 11 year career. His numbers paled in comparison to the numbers Irvin put up with Aikman who only had five 3000 yard seasons. Hayes didn’t exactly have the greatest hands earning the nickname Butterfinger Hayes nearing the end of his career. Don’t get me wrong he was a great receiver but it did take years to get him in the HOF.

Irvin was a first ballot Hall of Famer for a reason. When you add up his numbers in the regular season and playoffs he was clearly the greatest WR in Cowboys history. He could play and produce in today’s game. The greatest cover corner in the history of the game Deion Sanders had all kinds of trouble with Irvin. Darrell Green another Hall of Fame corner used to get abused by Irvin. In my opinion Irvin is a no brainer choice. He played on the greatest dynasty the Cowboys ever had earning three Super Bowl rings. He got it done in the regular season and playoffs.

Agree with every word my man. I could not have written it better myself.

I can only go by players I've watched. Give me the guy that can run routes, not drop the ball, and go deep, Drew Pearson. I still remember that wicked catch he made on 4th and 17 in the mud in Minnesota at the sideline participating in the ten toes down challenge or the game was over. But all everybody talks about is the Hail Mary a few plays later. That was the single best throw/catch in Dallas playoff history. He made a big impression on me as a little kid watching. And did not disappoint afterwards. Oh yeah, and a security guard at the game gave him a kick while he was down.

Surprised anyone would pick Irvin knowing what we know about how his stint in the league went.

Drug habit, rape accusations, literally cutting a teammate's throat? In today's NFL, Irvin's career is lost to suspensions.

True. He'd last maybe two seasons and get banned for life. Pearson drove DUI and killed his brother so he'd be in trouble too.

Seen em all back to Hayes. Love em all back to Hayes. I pick the playmaker just like I pick Emmitt. Simple reason: win or die trying, you cant put a price on that. I know most of you dont consider T O a Cowboy, I dont either, and he had his short comings, but nobody was more talented. Some of you old farts remember Lance Allworth who got a ring in 71? Not a Cowboy but as great as anybody whoever played the position.

The players today are also tough as nails. Players today are so much bigger and faster than the players of the 60s and 70s which is why there’s been so many player safety rules added. Tackles that are injuring players today didn’t injure as many players years ago. They’ve had to soften the game with all these players safety rules to try and avoid serious injury.
Actually, a lot of the changes were added because of the 60's, 70's and 80's guys. A bunch of those guys grew old and couldn't walk or otherwise function in society, many had brain damage. I still say today's players are pansies compared to the old dogs.

A lot of these player safety rule changes we’ve been seeing are due to the serious injuries that have been occurring the past decade plus. With a salary cap and the high price of players these days teams can’t afford to lose good players to injuries. Look at all the rule changes to protect QBs due to the high salaries they make. These player safety rule changes started happening about 12 to 15 years ago. One of the first player safety rule changes I remember was banning the horse collar tackle due to Roy Williams. He was always trailing plays and grabbing ball carriers by the back of the neck. After he injured TO with a horse collar tackle that‘s when the rule was adopted.

Dez isn't in the top 10 of WR's that have played for us.
Dez gets more hate now but he was elite here. I wouldn't put him top 5 though. The top 5 are pretty easy though. I would put him above TO as a Cowboy.
