This is about as brilliant as bringing Witten back last year. time to move on
Yup that wasnt a great move. Im not one that believes just because they gave Witten a shot, they should give Dez one too. I dont want to watch has beens struggle just because the organization and/or fanbase is attached to them

If you want WR depth, there are much bettee options

He deserves a tryout if he wants to play here. He has earned that.

If Witten can be brought back then Dez can be given a shot as well.
Must be worried that it will turn into a situation like we have now...... 'Boys can't get rid of Witt"

The market for him is thin and he's politicking to the only owner that would be sentimental enough to sign him. They released him for a reasons and not getting separation was one of them. Is he a better route runner after undergoing an Achilles surgery? Is his temperament better for a locker room? Is he more coachable? Is he necessary if they re-sign Cooper and Cobb?

If I were the GM, I would give him a tryout with my new O coaching staff. If he showed anything, I would offer him a league minimum incentive laden contact, if he makes the final roster. The contract would be all on the safe side for the team and on the prove it side for Bryant.

The question I have is why would they welcome him back after McClay basically torched him after they cut him? Unheard of for a personnel guy to make negative comments about any player they've released. Until that happened, I'd never seen that before.

Ultimately, the question is can this QB effectively use a jump ball WR?

February 1, 2020 - Dez Bryant wants to make a comeback. The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver has made that clear over the last few months on social media. Since he left

So he lost a step and wasn’t the best route runner, but this team can use someone like Bryant because his drive and desire for this team to win is evident.

He’s been labeled a cancer under the regime of JG, maybe just maybe he was trying to voice the truth of what was going in with the country club mentality and buddies system he was witnessing, unfortunately it took all of us the entire 2019 season to catch on.

if he can earn his spot... let him play!!!

The 14,000 pound elephant in the room is, will Dez be the same player he was when Dallas released him? That would be fine. He wouldn't be the primary WR anymore and he's always done well when he was in m2m with a CB2 or worse. But back then that didn't happen often because defenses focused on shutting him down. They wouldn't be able to do that now with Gallup and Cooper running around out there. I just don't know what Dez has left in the tank.

Did he earn that throwing players and coaches under the bus? Or yelling he will see us twice a year on the way out the door? Witten earned the right because he’s a professional. Dez isn’t. I love dez and think we should bring him in for a tryout but in no way has he earned the right more than Witten.

Unless he has learned the complete WR tree, and is back to being in tip top shape, as is signed to a team friendly deal (which would allow no cap hit if cut for being a nucklehead) then any talk of Dez returning to the NFL is nothing but a waste of breath. There is a reason he is still unsigned. Dez wanting to comeback doesn't matter. Talk is cheap. Play on the field matters. Truth is there will be day 3 draft picks in a couple of months that are better than Dez is now.
Have him bulk up and compete at TE.

He’s the leader in TD receptions for this franchise and the team didn’t give him a big sending away press conference like they did Witten.

Dez is one of our greats and deserved better.

Also, on the field.. Dez had much more impact on games then Witten ever thought about having.

Nobody does..

So you bring him in and work him out.

OH please no. can we jus tmove on from this head case. he is old. he is much slower, not that he had much speed to begin with, he was injury prone. he doesn't have the leadership skills (yelling on the sideline is not leadership).....he is a distraction. he is pre-Madonna and I just want to move on from this guy.

Lol Witten is like 2 touchdowns away from him and is a tight end. I bet ya if Romo went to Witten against Green Bay he would have held onto the ball.

The problem with bringing Witten back is that they did what we all feared and simply handed him the starting TE role. Garrett is no longer here playing favorites, so that wouldn't happen with Dez.

I'd give him a workout, but no guarantees. And certainly no guarantees in terms of money.

And we actually have a coach that would have the balls to say what was required of the player to his face and not simply talk with the ownership about him behind his back.

Make the expectations and requirements crystal clear and guarantee nothing other than an opportunity. At the first sign of trouble? Pull the plug.

Despite a lack of speed, Witten has the ability to get open all the time and pretty much against anyone. Dez likely isn't that much faster at this point, and was never a good route runner and never got separation. Don't see a reason to even consider this. I guess we treated him badly at the end, so a tryout might be the way to extend some good will, but the football part hardly seems like it would work out.

im indifferent but it might be time to purge the old guard of players like Witten and Dez types.. a new team , a new direction, is best for the new staff..they need to be heard and their voice would be the only one.. having hangers on from Garetts system with somehow expecting to get snaps could also bother the QBs/OC focus..

I like that KM was brought back but apprehensive for the same reasons but at least with most of the old stars gone now , KM and Dak can focus on just playing vs feeing pressured to throw to certain people..

I have no issue with this. Bring him back and let him compete. His injury should be fully healed. If he earns a roster spot then it doesn't hurt us at all. He brings something that no other receiver offers. Also as far as learning routes......its not what many of you pretend it is you act like it is hard or something.
We know. Then why won't he do it?

They had to assign someone to go to his house, wake him up, and bring him to practice.

Frequently.

They're done with him.
I didn't even know this, but it doesn't surprise me.

Hope they assigned him a money manager. If not, I'm sure he's about broke.

Witten has played a million years.. He should’ve had that record.
