KC couldn't stop the run. So what does Kyle Shanahan do with 5-6 minutes left

... nursing a 20-17 lead? Throw the ball of course! 2nd and 5, and Troy talks about how their gutting KC with the run, and that it should probably continue. Nope. 2nd and 5 pass tipped, and then another errant pass on 3rd and 5 leads to a punt.

For a moment there I thought I was watching Linehan or Garrett calling the plays.

Why these people go away from what's working is beyond me. The run game was gashing KC's defense. Oh well, I like all of you despise the 49ers, so it's all good. :)

Was screaming it. About 7-10 yards a clip. They couldn’t stop it. They interviewed a chiefs defender at the end of the game and he basically said it was complexed and they had a hard time with it. The last few drives they abandon it. There is a reason they don’t leave the game in garopollo hands.

I knew the 49ers were going to lose this game with 2 minutes left in the 1st half. Instead of trying to puts points on the board Shanahan decided to try and just run out the clock. Shanahan was playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Imagine if he gets just 3 points at the end of the 1st half, it changes the last 5 minutes of the game.

All the people that were raving about Saleh, did you see how it changed when Bosa had to go out for a series? Completely started their collapse. He’s the same guy he was the prior 2 years before he got one of the best DEs in the league.

I’m glad..

It didn’t feel like the 49ers put there that I grew up cheering against but they still had the red white and gold on and I’m glad they took the L..

I think they have a ton of cap space too..

Will Dallas make a Super Bowl or San Fran get back before Dallas?

Also late in the game, at 3rd and 10 Shannahan calls that deep post that was incomplete setting up 4th and 10. Maybe a run on 3rd sets up a more manageable 4th. Or, a 7 yd pass to the TE or RB sets up a manageable 4th down play.

Yeah, I'm so glad I wasn't rooting for his team. I would have been so mad. It was the bleepin' Super Bowl and he wasn't trying to score at the end of the first half. He even had his QB kneel down on the last play of the half.

Before that the series before that run the ball ,your up by 10. Even if you don't take 3:00 to ,4:00 off clock you make them use timeoutes. At the least KC gets ball back down by 10 with 5 minutes. When that first series they were throwing I went crazy.

Shanahan might be the worst second half super bowl coach in history. His offense also blew the 28-3 halftime lead when he was OC in Atlanta. It seemed like if he didn't get 10 yards on the first down runs, he gave up and went pass happy..

I'm glad Andy Reid won and I hate SF, but they shouldn't have lost that game.

Well good to see others thinking same as me,I could not believe what shanahan did, he lost the game for sf.
Terrible coaching! playcalling!

I was thinking the same thing!

That was bizarre ! he has no kahunas ! can you see Jimmy Johnson doing that?
Even if you just run the ball to start with you should still try to go down and score, and manage the time properly.

I have to say that even JG would do a better job than shanahan did in this game.
I think he choked and was just scared to lose, so lol he lost.
KC did not play that well either, but were coached better.

also mostert after that last game, did not even get the start in SB !!
and shan the man only gave him 12 carries !
I thought he would get 25 at least.

I was thinking the same thing. Just letting the clock run down with timeouts remaining?? Absolutely mind blowing stuff when you're playing a KC team that can put up a ton of points. Niners screwed themselves. I was rooting for the Chiefs, but smarter coaching wins that game for SF.

I lost 10 bucks on this game. Good thing I'm not the gambler I used to be.

He was playing cautious against KC all game and it came back to bite him. He played to not give KC the ball back, and if it meant not scoring, he was ok with that. At best he'd get a FG. And he almost did if not for the penalty.

I think the play calling was pretty good late. The only play you could really question is the 2nd and 5 pass when it was 20-17. But that was a very good play call. It was playing off what worked for them all season/game (run & playaction). It had their best offensive weapon open for a first down. It worked exactly as intended, it's just that Chris Jones made a play.

It in no way compares to the Superbowl where running at the end, even if not successful, would have virtually guaranteed a win.
