Could Rivers be McCarthy's Garcia or Gannon?

no....as a starter.
we have a QB we can win with.
we need to pay him.
but im all for bringing in a vet upgrade from Rush as a back-up.
but if we're moving on from Dak Id rather we draft Big Mc a QB he likes.

This was 2 years ago Dak vs Carr: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...scott-wholl-end-up-with-more-super-bowl-rings

That being when it was, I'd love to see another one, I bet Dak gets more votes today. Rivers looked off last season to me and I'd take Dak over Carr for sure at this point.

Prescott's Cowboys in prime position -- thanks to the QB's bargain salary
To appropriately answer this question, one needs to look at the surrounding team and situation, not just the quarterbacks. While the Raiders look like the more likely contender for 2017, with blue-chip players on both sides of the ball, those players ( Derek Carr, Amari Cooper and Khalil Mack) will all need massive new contracts in the near future. Those paydays could hamper the front office's ability to help the team get over the hump. Meanwhile, Prescott is costing the Cowboys pennies, allowing them to make a run at top free agents in the coming years.

So while I expect both to make it to the big game, Prescott might have the better shot at multiple rings.

See that guy get's it... Now the tables have turned and Prescott is the guy making money while Carr could potentially be getting paid pennies in comparison.

Carr at 20-25 mill > Dak at 35-40

Laugh all you want by try and pay attention.

3-5 before acquiring him.. 7-1 after..

Look at when we did well this year. When Amari started sputtering so did the entire team.

Amari is one of the few explosive players we have.

Our defense doesn't make big plays... Our RB stopped making big plays... Nobody else really makes big plays besides Amari and this league is all about big plays.

Jeebus ........ This will teach me for taking anti- Dak trolls off ignore.

Sure.. Amari made a pro bowl with Carr and part of why Amari does so well here is because he can get good matchups because of Zeke.

Amari makes Dak.. Don't get it twisted. That has been clear since he got here. When he isn't good the team isn't good.
The team went 13-3 without Amari in 2016, and it would have been 14-2 had we not sat out starters the last regular season game. Accordingly, Dak has won without Amari.

Still, it's not as if it is a shame for a QB to get a big boost out of a strong receiver. Brady has gotten a big boost over the years from receivers like Gronk, Moss, Edelman and Welker. Rodgers has gotten a big boost from Driver, Jennings, Cobb, Nelson and Adams.

I'm not suggesting Dak is at the level of those guys - he's not. But the point is none of them are doing it absent the support of talented players around them, so let's not hold Dak to a different standard.

Teams always have to adjust to circumstances. That also isn't just a Cowboy thing.

I know.. That is why we acquired Amari and now we go as he goes. I don't see us winning a lot of games when he doesn't produce.

I think we are a little better equipped now that Gallup has developed some, but Amari certain is still a key. If we can get a little more in the passing game from the TE position that will help as well.

Watched Rivers play several times this year. The dude is done. At least as a top flight QB anyway. He was awful in the games I watched.

Yeah I want no part of that but if my options are Dak at 35 mill or Rivers at 15 for a year or 2 then give me Rivers.

Never saw the love for rivers. People complained about Romo but this guy had a pedigree and all I see is Eli with a better arm.

I have to openly laugh at anyone who would take Rivers over current Dak

haters need to simmer.

only dude possibly available I’d take over Dak is obviously Brady and gamble on a 3-5 year run with him.

Dak went 13-3 without Amari. He also went 9-7 without Amari. He also went 8-8 with Amari. No single WR "makes" a QB, none. That's not how the NFL works. Amari is too inconsistent with his head in the clouds to "make" any QB.

This is coming from someone who thinks Dak is the poster child for mediocrity.

Both Mariota and Bridgewater can lead this team to an 8-8 or 10-6 record. Heck, even Derek Carr. That's the kind of QB we have.

The word is the Chargers are hot for Herbert and letting Rivers walk and while I admit I didn't watch him play in 2019 as much as I have in the past, he is still one of the most accurate passers and is that guy that can make every throw. He does throw more picks because he does have a little gunslinger in him but he's also 6'5" with a cannon.

I don't know what Big Mike thinks of him but with this offense around him but I think they could get him on a shorter term deal than Prescott. Garcia and Gannon both became better QB's with a change in coaching and were allowed to use their skills.

He is 38 and I don't know how much he would cost but it is an option if Prescott is too set on his contract demands.

I guess the question comes down to which QB you think is the better one but with these weapons around Rivers, it intrigues me to think of him as the DC QB for 2-3 seasons. He's all about getting the ball out and into a playmaker's hands.

The other QB FA's, Brady, Brees, Bridgewater, Keenum, Tannehill don't do a lot for me but Rivers is that guy that has seldom had a really good team around him and he had to carry it too often. I also don't think Brady or Brees hits the bricks and I don't see Bridgewater as an upgrade over Prescott but he might be more affordable.
Rivers is still far better than Dak based on acumen alone, and I suspect that a lot of his problems would magically clear up standing in a clean pocket while staring at Giants and Commanders. However to be clear, Rivers definitely no longer has a “cannon”. A lot of people have noticed that his arm strength is not what it was and worse, declines as the season goes on. He has been able to make up for it with his uncanny timing, but there’s no telling when it will completely dry up.
