I thought you were talking about an upgrade over Rush and I was all on board with you. Then I kept reading and instead LOL at you.
I wouldn't sleep on Rush now that Garrett is gone. Rush has the skill set for WCO. He reads defenses well and has good anticipation on quick short passes.

I say do it, let'em compete, and the best man starts and the other is backup. Works for me. I don't think Rush is adequate at backup

Keenum could be had very cheap. Foles could be traded for, Winston could be had
There are options if we don't want to pay 35 million plus. If our coaching staff and FO are game let's move on.
Do we believe in the rest of the infrastructure of the team? Dak is slightly below Cousins in terms of talent. Cousins is a more accurate short and long passer. I dont think he is worth 28 mllion a year. I think Goff is severely overpaid.
Wentz cant stay on the field. Has not won a playoff game.
If you tell me the Cowboys go cheap at QB, and sign Chris Jones, Amari Cooper, Shaq Barrett I am good with it. Build up the rest of the team and give me an average QB. Dak is just above average. He is no Wilson, Rodgers. He is not a game changer.
Dak is below Cousins? Seriously?? smdh

The Cowboys should get Case Keenum and give him a four year deal.
He would be an upgrade immediately, and at worst would solidify the Cowboys at quarterback if they do eventually sign Dak.
Phillip Rivers is also available, and is an upgrade.
Ryan Tannehill is available.
The Cowboys don't have to be in this soap opera with a guy who went 8-8 but wants to be paid like he is a proven winner.
Signing a veteran like Keenum- who has been a winner- would likely change Dak's attitude towards a new contract.
But I believe that the Cowboys would make it to the NFC Championship game next year with a guy like Keenum under center.

Im fine with putting pressure on Dak. Im fine with signing someone else if Dak is unreasonable. Most likely that someone else would be Cam, Winston, Rivers or Brady for example. I know they all have their warts, but with our team plus some upgrades at key positions its not an awful idea. I also realize Winston sticks out like a sore thumb on this list, but I still believe he has talent. He'd be a swing worth making for the right value. Make him a ball control qb and harness his chucking ways.

All that said, Keenum is crap and to pretend he's an upgrade is stooopid. Furthermore if we did move on from Dak I would hope we could at least leverage it into draft picks and draft our future. If we cant do that we need to re sign Dak and squeeze every ounce of potential out of him. I still think hes a franchise qb who will continue to improve. Im only trying to look at it from all angles.

You are selling Dak way short. Are you not the least bit curious about what Mike McCarthy can do for Dak? I think Dak has more potential than 99% of the QBs in the league. McCarthy has already sais Dak is a Super Bowl winning caliber QB.

The Cowboys could give Dak an AAV of $40m and still do all of this.

Not the first time I've seen this poster pounding the table for Keenum. Must be related to him

I knew this thread would be unpopular but Keenum is my choice.
However, as noted there are several options and the Cowboys need a solid backup, so they would be only wise to go ahead and bring in solid competition for Dak.
He's never had to compete for his job, and any respectable quarterback would have done well behind the 2016 offensive line with Ezekiel Elliott running the ball.
But since then, Dak has gone 8-8 basically twice- with the Eagles resting their starters and allowing the Cowboys to get to nine wins, and 10-6 once.
In the weakest division in the NFL.
So the Cowboys NEED to bring in competition at quarterback.

Yeah I don't think there is much of a difference between Dak and Cousins. They both have one playoff win. Dak has better numbers, is more accurate.
If Keenum took the Vikes to a championship game why couldn't he be a stop gap for us?
I would not want to move away from Dak without any compensation. Please put the transitional tag on him and allow someone to give out a poison pill contract so that we get two number 1's and also an excuse to not pay him

With the IQ of this board, you should have known it would be full of bad takes while people pretend that Keenum wasn’t every bit as good as Dak when he had a complete team. Dak would be in the XFL already if he started out on the Fisher Rams and recent Broncos/Deadskins teams.
Dak slobberers love QBR... Keenum has had a higher finish in QBR than Dak has ever had when given quality teammates.
