My bud in DAL had a problem with his mother-in-law being hot for him, it was crazy. He came over to our house one night asking our advice and when I say our advice, I mean my wife's. To add to this, his father-in-law, whom he liked a lot, was 6'5" 250 and no fat. He was also a black belt.

I thought I'd seen everything until he explained this situation. He's a lawyer and she had actually shown up at his office for a surprise visit for an impromptu lunch. You talk about a problem with only one solution, tell her to stop but the times I'd been around her, that was a tall order. She was used to having her way and he was afraid of what she might do if he finally spurned her. He ended up taking my wife's advice, after we'd figured talking to her was nowhere, and he told his wife everything. It went about as well as you would assume, a freaking nightmare for the entire family and they discovered the last affair she'd had was with her daughter's former boyfriend. Her parents got a divorce and she wouldn't speak to her mother. Our friend felt terrible and responsible and he'd really done nothing wrong but he said there was a wall between him and his wife after that and sadly, they ended up divorced and his wife in therapy.

I was sitting there enjoying a glass of wine one night when I lost it and spewed wine all over the table. My wife said "screw the writers of Dallas and Falcon's Crest, they know nothing".

Leon, please let me know when she is feeling better and I'll let the old girl have it with both barrels. Hope she is feeling better, I never got the mother-in-law thing, mine was like a second Mom as my Mom was to my wife and I adored my father-in-law. He was the father I wish I'd had growing up.

I feel the same way about my mother-in-law. She is a precious part of my family. She has lived with us for over 20 years and I have never regretted it. Even my sister calls her mom.

Morning, Pops and anyone else who drops in. We tried a glass of a sweet red wine, Malbec, from Argentina last night. It was pretty good. I have no definite plans for today so I'll just go with the flow. Have a great day.

I've hung off a few but never installed one.

And speaking of left over parts, and you were, the only time I put together a gas grill, I had left over parts too. Looking back, I assume at least one of them was to keep it from bursting into flames.

RGV, your post says good evening but the time stamp is 4:30am. Now if your group of revelers party's until 4:30am and that's evening to you, I am moving next door. They do it up right in the Valley now, don't they?

Morning Pops and fellow teeth chattering posters. I took the dogs out at 10:30pm, after a rousing game of Rat Pack Blackjack in which I cleaned one of them out of all her dog biscuits but I lost my car to the male. I think he cheats....better than I do. Know what I saw? OK that first greeting was a clue, pay attention! Snowflakes, and I ain't talkin' bout the neighbors, the real deal. Nothing was sticking but they were drifting down and let me put one myth to rest, I saw two just alike. Know how many snowflakes fall a year? Me neither but it's a bunch and for them to just state no two are alike is the reason some doubt their warning about global warming.

Well, make this as good a day as you can. I am going to see if I can talk my dog into letting me borrow the car.

Welcome one and all to the near weekend. Remember "near beer" with a much lower alcohol content? Well, Thursday is one day removed from hump day, but still not quite the the weekend... Thus, "near weekend".

After a bitterly cold Tuesday and Wednesday, we are in for a "milder" day with temperatures approaching 35 F, but... More snow is on the way.

Snowflakes in the greater Austin area (you do live in or around Austin don't you CC?) - who would have thought it? Be careful of the double entendre. Some on this site may interpret your "snowflake" comment differently.

I remember growing up in the Hill Country. It was always a treat to visit Austin - the food, the music scene, the culture... All spectacular. I don't visit Austin so much any more, but my enduring image now is the horrible traffic.

Well, it is time to walk the two backup cats. It will be a short walk as it is bloody cold. While they sniff the covered planter boxes at the front of the house, I will marvel at how great retirement is.

Good morning Pops and friends. Good afternoon to CC just in case you see this post 6 hours from now. I actually posted last night at 9:59 PM. If I had posted at 4:30AM it would have read something like this “zzzzzZzzzzZZZZZZzzzzz.” I’m trying to sleep all I can this week until next week when I’ll get paid to wake up early and do some actual work. ;)

OK still has near beer, you have to buy the real deal at liquor stores.

I live in Horseshoe Bay, 40 minutes West of Austin, at the beginning of the Hill Country. Austin is awful. I'd move back to Dallas before I'd live there and I don't like Dallas. Too many people and the explosive and exponential growth caught them off guard and unable to get out in front of it. Can't really blame them but they knew for years that having I-35 as the major north/south local thoroughfare was going to be a major problem and it still is.
