I think Dak is an extremely hard worker and has a good head on his shoulders. He is tough durable guy who will do anything to win. Dak problem is he has limited talent in his ability to throw the football. This is why we see Dak get hot and cold through the course of a game. Dak under pressure is unable to back off a defense. I think he has reached his physical ceiling and its up to coaches to scheme players wide open to make the throws easier for Dak. But thats not going to happen against good teams. This why Zeke is key! when he does well it opens things for Dak.

Additionally, he actually appears to be getting less athletic every season. Even lineman are catching him from behind. We witnessed Josh Allen out rush him and play with way more heart to win that Bills game. That game was a real eye opener as to which Qb wanted to win that game more

Aside from the contract and all that, what is your opinion on Dak’s growth or lack of.

Do y’all think he hasn’t gotten better at all, he’s improved steadily every year, or has made major strides since mid-2018?

Additionally, do y’all think he’s reached his ceiling or do you think he will and is still improving?

Curious to hear were most of us stand
What do you think?

I think the fundamentals of Dak's play have improved every year, and I think it's fairly obvious outside maybe 2017 when the team's offensive weapons were super depleted due to age/injury/suspension/take your pick.

I think his raw talent level is fine, actually. His problems are basically all technique and speed of recognition, both of which have improved over time. That doesn't mean he's 2016-17 Brady level or something, but I feel like his progress is clear enough unless you're emotionally invested the idea that he's going to be bad forever.

How much better can he get? Beats me. I do think it's fair to write him off if McCarthy can't develop him further in 2020, though.

I have no doubt he has improved from his rookie year and continues to show improvement.

Dak has certainly gotten better. That part is obvious.

I doubt he will make any more major jumps in improvements. However, he will absolutely continue to improve at reading defenses and anticipation. Those are things that QB’s keep getting better at the more they play.

Dak improved considerably but not enough to elevate a team that had given up on their coaching staff so it didnt look as good as it should

That’s life my cowboy brother. You always strive to become better no matter what it is. At least you should be. I still don’t think he was put with the rate scheme. I think he could be very dangerous when he becomes. The leader he is. And you can only lead to throw people around you willing to let you

Dak has improved and should continue to improve since we've gotten rid of all those incompetent coaches that hurt his growth and performance, and replaced them with much better coaches. That said, I'm not sure new coaches can cure Dak from throwing behind or over throwing open receivers on slants or crossing patterns. Or miss wide open receivers on 9 routes.

If we look at the 1st 10 games of 2019, there is no question that Dak got way better. The one area of concern is it looked like he was less willing to run in some games. Not sure why. It could be he was trying to avoid injury knowing he was in a contract year. But the last 6 games, or maybe 5 of the last 6, Dak looked like he regressed. He was not throwing as well has he did earlier in the year. The Eagles game was a real eye opener for anyone responsible for making the decision on what to pay Dak. So the question has to be, which was the real Dak? Can the bad Dak be coached out of him? I am not an expert, but the late season Dak seemed to be throwing off his back foot, not setting his feet and rushing his throws. Was he trying too hard? If it was physical, I think he can correct the issues. If its mental, I am not so sure.

I think this contract thing has bothered him, which bothers me. But maybe his shoulder was worse than we were told. Maybe Dak was hiding it hoping to play through the season , again, because of his contract.

St the same time, I can't help but think about all the Cowboys players who regressed in 2019. Gallup dropped 11 passes in 2019!

I think he’s improved in bursts and isn’t yet done improving.

People really like to talk about our coaching ineptitude (Falcons game 2017, starting 2018 with Deonte Thompson/Allen Hurns at WR, Paul Allen ruining the line), but refuse to understand the negative impact that has on a QB. Despite a myriad of coaching ineptitudes, he’s managed to work his arse off to get better.

Is he elite yet? No. But going from can’t throw deep, to can’t throw for 300, to too many fumbles, to too many sacks, to can’t throw over the middle; he’s made incredible strides in all those areas and literally the only thing he needs improvement on is consistency. That comes with experience and I fully believe he’ll settle in to a 5-8 range QB in this league for his career.

To those who claim he’s done improving and claim it to be fact. LOL that is the definition of being a hater. So much evidence of QB’s improving throughout their career let alone through year 5, why is Dak different? Especially with the way he works and the obvious improvements he’s made, why would one assume he’s done? Until he levels out for a year or two how can you “factually” say that Dak has reached his ceiling? It’s literally impossible to claim a future prediction as a fact but yet people on here love to do it
