I think that is about where he should be paid. I have said it all along, paid more that Wentz but less than Goff and that was before the season started. I still stand by that.
Too late for that. I wanted jerry to sign dak early last offseason. before wentz and goff. front office played chicken with Dak and lost. now they have to pay

this is from September and has been discussed a bazillion times. we needed another thread for something not new?

A merged mega thread will suffice. Then I won't have to visit it anymore. :muttley:
It will clean up the front page for better topics as well.

Jerry and the Cowboys did this to themselves. By not having a capable backup QB and letting Dak get down to the wire, they've backed themselves into a corner. Every time has happened in the past, the Cowboys got screwed. See Dez and Zeke for recent examples.

So he’s asking for $35m?

from the article
Prescott, who turns 27 in July, reportedly wants a deal that would place him as the highest paid quarterback in the league, or at least tied with him, per the Star-Telegram.

That’s Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson, who makes $35 million a season. Wilson is on a four-year, $140 million deal he signed in April.

That’s a $31 million savings for the 2019 season,
Even if the offer is 35 now, they come out ahead, depending on duration and guarantees.

I disagree. I think they should stick to their guns. He did not make the playoffs this year. Is it all on him? Of course not but he is the qb of the team to lead to wins.

Look at the Jimmy G contract. That's Dak's floor. Dak is younger with more experience. He can shoot for the moon and worst case, he can get Jimmy G money on the open market.

Without knowing how much is fully guaranteed, and for how long, these numbers mean nothing either way. They could literally be anything from a great deal for the Cowboys to a salary cap killer.

Exactly, does $33 million a year for 6 years look like a great deal with the upcoming CBA money?

Uh, that's a no for those that aren't sure.

If we're just dealing in rumors I heard the problem with Dak is that he wants a shorter contract so he can renegotiate a couple years into the new CBA, which might have a higher share of revenues going to players. IF that's true the issue isn't that he wants to trap the team in a long-term mega money deal like everyone here is worried about, but rather that he wants a shorter deal than the team itself wants and is betting on himself to earn a real blockbuster in 2022 or whatever.

As long as we're going nuts over rumors...

I would agree with you if our defense wasn't bad and our special teams wasn't garbage. You can't lose 2/3 of the game and expect to win. Dak had control of the offense and the offense was not a problem in 2019

And yours are accurate.

It's not the money that's holding it up, it's the length of the deal.

Prescott and his agent want a shorter deal to get out into the next CBA and salary cap sooner.

If I remember right, LeBron James had a similar approach to some of his deals.

Not trying to start another Dak thread, lol
I think they cave on Dak... can't post source tweet.

Stephen Jones on the franchise tag and Dak Prescott: "Our goal is to avoid it." Here's our report on a chat with Cowboys VP.
