I think Round 1, pick 17: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma was a home run. But also Dallas was in a no lose situation there. Chaisson would have been perfectly fine and Lamb was an even better choice for immediate impact on a team with a SB directive and aspirations.

I think Round 2, pick 51: Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama was a typical Cowboys draft call. Long-armed press corner from a powerhouse program. Happened to marry need with talent. Could be CB1 in a hurry as the team catches up to him on scheme.

I think Round 3, pick 82: Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma was a steal. DT was a common mock target for DAL in rounds 2 and 3. Not a lot of long term depth in place in Dallas inside. Gallimore, 23, and Hill, 22, give this team a chance to build a plus interior going forward.

I think Round 4, pick 123: Reggie Robinson II, CB, Tulsa was the favorite of Will McClay because that is the perfect body type to execute the scheme they are targeting. He may need a year but that's a nice pick for a team who has so few CB signed beyond next year.

I think Round 5, pick 146: Tyler Biadasz, C, Wisconsin was unfair. DAL stole this kid who may need a year to fully recover but was the best OC in college football.

I think Round 5, pick 179: Bradlee Anae, DE, Utah will make some plays for you. I don't know he is ever an every down NFL player but NFL teams rotate pass rushers on and this guy has great technique and pad level.

I think Round 7, pick 231: Ben DiNucci, QB, James Madison is a fine shot in dark at QB though I could tell you zero about him as a prospect. Cement him as opposed to trying to outbid others in UDFA

I think UDFA: Terrence Steele, OT, Texas Tech will surprise some people. When he signed to Texas Tech he was at the lower range of their frosh class but showed quickly to be the best OL of his class and was just rock steady for 4 years. Could see him as a long-term swing OT after a year on the practice squad.

    I think UDFA
: Francis Bernard, LB, Utah should have been drafted. He had some maturity and off-field issues but if people watched Utah hit the top 10 this year they saw Bernard (and Anae) make tons of plays. Utah allowed the 2nd fewest yards per game in FBS. He might be the best ST coverage guy if Goodwin gets released.

I think this is a draftnik's dream haul for this team. I ran probably 100 mocks across 3 or 4 different online mock simulators with twice as many big boards as authorities. I never once saw CeeDee Lamb fall to 17. Not once. I might have gotten Diggs a handful of times at 51. There were mocks we laughed off as homer mocks that had less talent.

I think picking a safety there would have been a "lose" situation. McKinney ultimately went at 36 and Delpit at 44. Picking either of them at 17, 20 or 30 picks earlier than necessary, would've been much worse than scooping up Lamb or Chaisson. To me, anyway. I know the "thirsty for a safety at any cost" people would've liked it (though half of them would've pitched hissy fits that we spent it on a cheap rookie safety instead of trading the pick for Adams who would also want a massive new contract).

I thank you for the detailed work on your thread. I also did a million mocks lol and never saw Lamb that low.

I don't think safety was ever a strong consideration.
Sounds like they were targeting either AJ Terrell or Chaisson.
When Lamb fell that had that out of blue and hopped on it.

They say they had 3 trade offers to trade back but passed.

Turns out 17 was a pretty sweet spot.

Biadasz said post draft he is already back to 100%. I think lack of an off-season will slow him down more than anything physically.

I totally believe that. If Lamb and Chaisson were both gone at 17, you read they seriously considered Diggs at 17 for that scenario. Then they had a high second round grade on Gallimore.

There could easily have been a scenario where our top three picks were Diggs, Gallimore and Robinson rather than Lamb, Diggs and Gallimore.

In that scenario I think they would have went with Asiasi who folks said the cowboys really liked. He went #91

They had first round grades on Lamb and Diggs, a second round grade on Gallimore and probably third round grades on Robinson, Biadasz and Anae.

That's six guys and the last time a third rounder or higher didn't work out it was Chaz Green five years ago.

This team seemed allergic to catching breaks for a while.

    Maybe that's over for now.

Turns out we didnt need to lose to the Skins after all I suppose. :)

Totally get that, but the best case scenario would be replacing Lamb as a guy with a top ten grade with someone they had a 2nd or 3rd round grade on.

Be really cool to see their board. They may have had a 3rd round grade on Asiasi as well. We may never know.

I'm not at all sweating Chaisson because we have a bunch of edge guys if you're counting on suspensions getting lifted.

Granted they arent young, but they brought in some raw guys to compete in that spot.

They will be fine if they can figure out how to get the right guys in the right place and I think they will.

They may have had a higher grade on Terrell than Diggs, so they may have doubled up in 1st 2 rounds and not taken Robinson.

    I agree.

I do business at the Star. They think this kid will not only be a demon on Special Teams, they think he could be the backup Mike. They see him and Thomas being key contributors at LB this season...if there is a season.

No lie: I did about 50 mocks in the week leading up to the draft and ONE time CeeDee Lamb fell to me at 17 and Diggs to me at 51. I wish I would’ve saved it or taken a screenshot. I reset the mock because I thought it was too unrealistic.

Broaddus said they had high 2nd round grades on Diggs and Gallimore with Gallimore rated just above Diggs.

    Outstanding.

    Is this one of those..

    "I think I think" threads?

    Love it.

    Like most of you..

I have been scanning YouTube to do my own research.

What I have seen mostly is that other than the Center from Wisconsin..

very few of our choices were actually expected.

Lamb was just a huge selection. I think already half the Forum wants to refund Amari's contract and start CeeDee.

    A little premature, but..

The other selections definitely are the right positions of need. I just wonder what happened to BPA?

Suddenly it seems like a 60's jargon that seems fat and bloated today.

So time will let us all absorb what we have. I just hope we have no more suspensions and no more cheeky remarks in place of real dialog.

    More to read..bubba bye.
